SW Version LS670ZVD?

EDIT: I have a funny feeling that the VD update is really just LG's way of fixing their [expletive]-up with the VC update. Meaning VC and VD are really the same thing, just that LG remembered to patch (AND FLASH THIS TIME) the recovery kernel.
Quite possible, the radio actually looks like it might be the same as VC because only the VC changed to VD while the 60401001 (which I think is the actual version #) didn't change for the first time. All the previous radios changed the ending #s. Then again, it could just be a typo.

Thanks I tought that but if you look at the post just above mine they refer to an accidental OTA update to VD. I thought I was missing something.
Sorry, I was just jumping the gun on VD becoming an OTA update. Usually it takes a few days before they release it as an OTA. Also some newer phones may come with VD from the factory.

Sprint really seems to be taking their time "officially" announcing this update. As of the time of this post, VD is still not listed in the update log:
Sprint Community: LG Optimus S: LG Optimus S (LS670) Maintenance Releases

So far we've figured out that VD fixes the LG logo hang but closes the wifi hotspot widget loophole. Other than that, I have no idea what it does.

Perhaps they are getting feedback from us before releasing the OTA. There are Sprint techs that read these threads.

Every once in a while I use the hotspot widget on my unrooted phone. Not frequently enough to pay an additional $30 monthly. Is the VD update worth giving up the AP hotspot exploit? If I update and root, would I only have adhoc wireless tethering option?

I need to know this too cuz full hotspot a abilities are way more important than having any kind of "improved " performance to me.

If you root VD and install ThundeROM 1.8.2. Hotspot widget works. Confirmed.

Everything you need to know about rooting the Optimus S is in the rooting guide (in the stickies). Upon reading said guide, you will learn that there are no working one-click root methods for any software update past V9.

Did not know i had the zvd until brickish

New to droids....could not upgrade fore some time. Thought my phone was rooted...SU installed and gave right to titanium backup...but when i did that test I came up with a $ not a #. So while driving to dallas I started downloading software and all of a sudden restart...android flashing... then stop...shows a cursor in top right hand corner for a second and then gos back to android marquee. tried to load update.zip after holding down buttons and getting to recovery screen....e-signature came along and said no....then I just got caught in a loop. trying to go back to original and I tried the restore process for v9 but it did not complete....last line said something about no deletele update..I don't know will that StockVD.zip fix the problem? How do i use a custom back-up when I can't get in my phone that really isnt rooted
