SWEET JESUS!!! Update your Revue to Honeycomb 3.1 NOW!

So I extracted the pulse apk from my tablet and pushed it to the Revue...

Voila! However, it's extremely wierd because it's optimized for a touch screen scrolling and such. Little awkward sizing stuff but it works! Just tough to use with a mousepad.

Edit: I also tried Gmail.apk from the tablet as well and it loaded but the sync was wierd and made it force close when it tried to grab my email.

Thanks again man. I appreciate the pics. Good to see pulse running...Though it sucks to know that almost nothing is optimized for gtv. This must change.

The main thing I dislike in the update is the Logitech Media Player no longer auto plays the next item like it use to, you actually have to create a "playlist" now...

Hmm so apks dl and side load and install but fail to run/operate... Wonder if its the app realizing its not optimized for google tv and force closing or if its the honeycomb os force closing the app...

can you see if you can install an app that logs when an app force closes and see what caused it to force?
and log like 2 or 3 different apps to see if its the same thing force closing them...
Cause if its the same thing force closing the app some one could fix that.

Yes. They aren't optimized because it's not publicly available yet therefore causing a force close because of the code not working for this specific version of android. I'm willing to bet it's more of the code that involves drawing the display causing a force close rather than just the code.

I'm not sure what kind of experience you have with coding at all for android, but usually for something like that you would use ADB (besides just using a debugger with your own application) but currently the ADB over the network via the settings doesn't work and I personally don't have a usb male -> male cable to plug into my computer unfortunately to use "adb logcat" and see what's going on otherwise I would.

No problem man! Yeah, I mean it's not even publicly out yet so it's totally understandable that this stuff doesn't work.

You can access adb via the network here are instructions for the revue running Honeycomb. GTVhacker • View topic - How To Set Up Your Revue Running HC3.1 To Use ADB

Thanks for that link. Wonderful, all I was missing was the entering of the debugger ip address. Now it makes sense, duh, entering the PC ip address... I don't know why I never tried that. I will DEFINITELY be doing some logcats and installing APK's will be so much easier now. Hopefully if "adb install" works properly through the network

The game "Furdiburb Lite" (in the market) is actually optimized for TV. It works, but it is also optimized.

When you first start it, the help menu comes up and it displays the controls for the TV Keyboard.

Check it out! Fun game for kids.

I think your hitting it on the nose here. One of the key features of 3.2 was the ability to support the smaller, lower resolution screens. So unless your TV is 1280x800 it's probably going to be problematic.

not having any luck... usb is formatted, only file on their is the update, which i renamed "update. zip" becuase i kept getting an error message at the recovery menu saying file is not found or wrong. now that i renamed it "update. zip", after i hit the "fn" key and left arrow key, it just reboots automatically to default screen of setting up revue. what gives?

I installed the update and everything went smooth. When i was setting up the revue i get to the part where i have to enter my google account credentials. It keeps saying"Your username and password do not match. Please try again." I have no idea why this is happening i am putting in the password correctly. I tried with my wife's gmail account and i got the same error. I tried creating a new account from within and it said that it could not connect to the server. I have no idea why this is happening. Anybody else run into this issue? Please help!!!

Are you running windows 7?

Windows 7 and Vista both hide the 3 letter extension by default. If you never changed that setting you are essentially naming your file update.zip.zip but windows is hiding the second .zip. If you rename it to just "update" no dots or anything and it still looks like a zip file then you're fine.

Is anyone else getting a e:signature failed message. what am i doing wrong?

Make sure its a clean USB. Reformat it and make sure you rename the file update and not update.zip. If you did all this it could be a issue with the file. I would dl a new copy and try again.

Yes this is key, it's common for people to not have "hide extensions for known file types" unchecked. So people often rename .zip's for android to "update.zip.zip" when it should be "update.zip" because it doesn't show you the known filetype in the filename by default.

Also, if anyone wants any screenshots of anything specific I got adb working now so I can take screenshots wayyyyy better and can use logcat for anything specific.

Ohh... So is it going to be a pain in the ass for developers to make their apps compatible with our platform?

Or will it just take a few lines of code?

Unless Google releases an NDK for the device, it will be a major pain. A good part of a lot of games will have to be rewritten,

If Google releases an NDK, it would be just a recompile, in most cases.

Tapatalk works
EZPDFreader works
Google+ works
3d Gallery works this version does not have the gallery installed
My Cast weather works

I have been extracting apks with root explorer on my X
transfering to my computer
Starting an email and saving as a draft
Going to GMAIL ON THE Revue and downloading from there
Then I go to the notification tab on the home screen and intalling from there

This is truely the android experiance on the TV the way they invisioned it

Google has said NDK will not be available in V2 of GTV.

Anybody know if there's a way to run apps from a usb drive? I've already run out of room on the revue's internal storage.
