T-mobile $30 Unlimited data, Text, 100Min Voice

Tmobile did fix it! Let me run a speedtest. Using Samsung Vibrant. I'll attach a file.

The Samsung Galaxy W or Ancora will be a great buy. Good size screen and 21mbs HSPA+.

This will be my last month with Virgin Mobile, but my wife will still rock her OV, she loves it!

+1.

It's hard not to want this.

I just question the consistency of coverage in my area. Also, 100 minutes is really claustrophobic. Im all for using Groove IP for some extra minutes, but I'd hate to have to depend on it for incoming or critical outgoing calls while away from home and my home wifi.

I'm honestly torn about this plan. VM is a known quantity to me. I know I have coverage where I need it, and I know I have a $25 bill every month with more than enough minutes. The 3G speeds suck though. That's the truth.

Wait so I can get any TMobile phone and use it on this prepaid plan? hmmm Does tethering work?

What's the deal with tethering? Is it built in? Do you need an app (like Quick Settings)?, do you need root?

You probably need root, most carriers don't allow it (including newer VM LG Optimus V's).

I'm with ticojpunk, if t mobile had better service where I live then maybe. I already use the phone on wifi while at home, and when i move to arizona I get really good service out there. Plus I'm paying less right now

My cousin has tmobile. But she has a samsung flip phone from 2007 ( really old.) But her calling is super perfect here in california. Would optimus t be the same?

T-Mobile posted a comment today on their official Facebook page.

T-Mobile USA on Facebook said:
Hey everyone - we identified a glitch which occurred for a limited number of customers with our recently launched Monthly4G plans, impacting their ability to access select websites. We are happy to announce that the issue has been resolved and full Web browsing capabilities have been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused for our Monthly4G customers.

It looks like that web access / "HTTPS" issue was fixed. So does anyone know yet if the Web Guard is still enabled by default?

Ordered a pristine G2X on Ebay for $250 with express shipping. Ordered prepaid activation kit on t-mobile.com. Received both yesterday, activated $30/100 mins plan online no problem. Put the sim card in backwards so nothing worked. (I have only ever been on Verizon, Sprint and VM, so know nothing other than CDMA). Read the manual, put sim card in right, phone worked. Stupid web guard in place, I think disney.com was the only site I could visit. Went to t-mobile.com to disable web guard, but apparently the computer was not convinced I have been over 18 for many, many years. Called, tried to figure out how to navigate the ridiculous options, none of which says "Would you like to enable to disable our Web Guard feature? Finally reached a very nice woman named Michael, and while English clearly was not her native language, she communicated effectively and got the Web Guard off. I did have the issue with https, however, the battery arrived dead so I needed to let it charge before I got serious about it! By the time it was charged T-Mobile had finally fixed it, so everything worked great! Tethered with my OV to download all my apps, then went to GV to port my number. 20 hours later no action on that.

Now the important stuff! GrooVe IP works great over wifi. For me, it's hit or miss on 4G. I've been able to make some short calls that sounded perfect. Also made some that were incredibly choppy. So, I'll stick to making my calls to family at home on Wifi. Doing that I should be able to stay under or close to the 100 minute limit.

A big thanks to all the IHO guys, you really made this little OV bearable!

Thanks for reporting your experience. A lot of us are looking for posts like these to show both the process, and that you can end up with a problem free activation eventually, even if it just takes a call to support to remove Web Guard. Seems silly, but I've heard a lot of reports of this. This may be par for the course with T-Mobile.

I'm especially happy you reported your findings regarding GrooVe IP. If I do end up switching, GrooVe IP and Google Voice will be integral in me making the 100 minute plan work. I'm often under 100 minutes a month, but I normally clock in at closer to 125. For this, worst case scenario I get billed for the overage for an extra $2.50 or so, which is bearable.

Still afraid to even consider the thought of losing my $25/month bill forever though. haha. And there's always that "What's gonna happen to T-Mobile" in the future thing. News yesterday/today has the iPhone beginning to appear on smaller carriers in the US (C-Spire is the current story). A little disturbing that Apple is getting it's phone out to almost anyone who will peddle it at this point to achieve market saturation, but they won't give it to T-Mobile. Makes me feel like they feel the AT&T merger will indeed happen sooner or later. Not sure what this means for this new $30 plan if anything, maybe it's a good thing. Grandfathered plan, and better coverage in the future. Who knows?

Johnp: what are your up/down speeds and where do you live? Care to run a speed test for us?

To be honest that is probably the only thing stopping me. I mean I know it's only $5 but $25 seems so little compared to $30...lol

I think that Apple is just trying to make money, like they've always been doing, but yes I'd agree they probably think it'll happen even though I'm doubtful it will based on what I've read.

Well. Tmobile sided with samsung in the " apple vs samsung " suit. And with saying that. I highly doubt tmobile will be getting iphone anytime soon. Even with the att merging. Lol :D

I'm with ya though. $25 for a nice minute package and unlimited everything else is probably as good as it ever going to get. That knowledge makes it really hard to even consider letting it go.

I can't even keep my vm account active, because I'll need to port my number to google voice in order to make the 100 minute package on t-mobile work for me. The second I do that, my $25 plan is gone forever.

Agreed, especially since the $25/month plan isn't even available anymore, so if we don't keep the account active it's gone forever...I've been using Google Voice for a really long time now, so I very few people have my VM number (I give out my GV number more often), so I wouldn't need to port my number, and I could probably go under 100 minutes, but for $5 more and less minutes the data better be extremely good...even though I have wifi and use that anyways...
