Talk me out of getting a V30

I currently have a Pixel XL and was all set to upgrade to the 2 but I'm being swayed by the LG V30. It just looks better in almost every area and isn't as bland as the Google phone. I'm very impulsive and can't wait till October 4th to see what the XL 2 will offer. Do you think it will actually be any better than the V30?

It hard to say what will be better since we can't compare physically. Even if we could, better might depend on which features you want compare and which ones matter.

We can pretty much say the V30 will have better audio unless Pixel has something up it's sleeve so I would give that to V30 unless standard audio is good enough.

If you need the traditional jack... V30.

Camera....remains to be seen and what features you want to compare.

If you need external storage...V30, but with 128 on board and unlimited Google storage....Pixel. 128 might not be available on V30 in markets.

Updates.....pixel

Water resistance.....slight edge to V30 if the Pixel is only IP67

Durability....maybe a slight edge to pixel since back is partial metal

Wireless charging.....V30

Battery capacity....pixel if leaked size is true.

Call and display quality....unknown

External speaker sound....pixel if dual speakers are true

Agree with most of your points but I can't leave out security and customer privacy. Both huge wins for the pixel.

You're right.... security would come under Updates which I mentioned, unless you were referring to something additional. Maybe you can shed some light on customer privacy.

Let's get this straight. You think because the V30 has a DAC it will just hands down have better audio? I just switched over to bluetooth in my truck. The #1 piece is the source and #2 is the output for the source. I actually have to turn boom sound off on my HTC 10 when I'm using the headphone jack in my truck. My HTC 10 has a DAC. Streaming via bluetooth I don't have that problem. Not to mention the Pixel 2s should both run bluetooth 5.0 which allows you to be further away from your bluetooth speakers or bluetooth stereo head. It will actually connect faster, allow for file transfer in half the time it used to and hold the signal better. Two people can listen to music using one phone with bluetooth 5.0

Why does distance matter to me? When I'm detailing my truck this means I can move further away to grab my normal detailing supplies and still not experience any degradation in the music. Right now the distance is like 30 feet before bluetooth music will start to drop off. I believe 5.0 will increase the range to 260 feet. That's a considerable increase in distance.

YES - I would have a very hard time leaving Big Red - especially after reports from friends in FL during the hurricane - Big Red served them well.

Pros:
- stock Android, pure experience
- Android Oreo preloaded
- fast updates
- same HTC squeeze feature
- possibly better single camera experience
- mostly metal build vs glass
- I think less curves on the screen
- faster phone probably (maybe by a hair), SD 836 maybe?

Cons:
- no micro SD slot
- no headphone jack (as shown in leaks/rumors)
- only single camera
- might cost more money ($849 vs $800 as rumored)
- might be exclusive and out of stock like the previous year's
- pure Android so no extra features (LG knock to wake, Quad DAC audio, wide angle lens, additional video recording features)
- bigger screen to body ratio judging by the photos, V30 looks more slim

It really comes down to features. Do you really need fast updates and Android O? Clean, pure Android? Or do you need a good audio experience, that 2nd wide angle, and better video recording software and experience? I'm picking the V30 because I would rather have the micro SD and headphone jack. But I'm sure the Pixel 2 is great, no doubt.

All phones have DACs, the V30 has a dedicated Quad DAC and unless the Pixel has something up it's sleeve yes the V30 will have better audio. I don't know why you bring Bluetooth into the discussion, because Bluetooth automatically loses. It's not bad, it's just not as I good. The rest of most of what you're stating has nothing to with audio quality but features that you like about Bluetooth which as all phones have.
Having said all that I'm most likely buying the 2 XL and if the sound isn't good enough I may just add an external DAC.

Is the 600 actually being activated for you in your neck of the woods? Just because the next phone supports it doesn't mean your area will.

I vacation in an RV in the summer.... rural connectivity is huge for me for various areas in the upper midwest. I see Wyoming is now active... so along those lines, looking for better rural signal. I could just go verizon, but it looks like tmo will actually be better down the line.

And to a very, very small number of T-Mobile users now who somehow have serious connection issues but are in an area where they are deploying the new tech. It's a non-issue to 99.9999% of the population.

That 99.9999% will shrink drastically each day. I thought the same thing with the band 12 deployment, but here in MN it was huge. I actually get signals now in northern mn campgrounds and other ares completely dead the year before.

We would have to see what carrier based offerings are available for the Pixel, but Verizon seems to be the only one specific to selling it through them. If wifi calling and VoLTE are important then the carrier based V30 with WiFi calling would be a better option.

Verizon and TMO stuff work on it, I've heard AT&T doesn't.

I am also torn between the Pixel XL and the V30? I used to have a Nexus 5 along with several other phones, I am currently on a IPhone 7 Plus but I am going back to andriod. Tmobile is going to offer the V30 with the jump plan.. but thats not a major issue if i go with the Pixel, ill finance with google. Iv personally never used a LG themed phone. I really like the camera on the Pixel and obviously pure andriod.
I don't care about wireless charging, the 3.5 jack is a plus but not a deal breaker.
What do you guys think I should shoot for?

Either way I think you'll get a great phone. These are looking like some of the best phones coming out this year. I'm still deciding between the V30 and the Note 8, leaning towards the V30.

You don't know what you are talking about. A DAC is a part of the equation. It matters where you buy your digital music from too like Amazon, Google, Apple, etc. The source matters and any professional sound system shop will tell you this. The source matters. I have over $1000 worth of stereo equipment in my rides. Just having a great DAC doesn't mean shat if your system is wack! I spend more time listening to music in my vehicles over bluetooth than you. I'm not riding the bus. I am sure 60% of people who can afford the phone stream their music in their vehicles. There is no difference in quality from bluetooth to the 3.5 mm jack. There are companies that sell solid aftermarket bluetooth stereo modules that streams amazing sound quality.

I have an Accord and Tundra with aftermarket bluetooth modules. If you stood outside you couldn't tell the difference whether or not my phone is plugged into the system on my vehicles. Bruh, you're not an audiophile so stop trying to be one.

Amazing... I dont know what I'm talking about, but your streaming music from less than fully capable sites. Fact is if you're streaming music from the sites you mention you start out at a disadvantage compared to streaming lossless files from Tidal or listening to lossless files stored on your device or other storage medium.
