Talk me out of getting a V30

Hmm. Not sure if that qualifies as "not bulky" . It looks like a USB stick size it seems. I'd want something thinner than that ..
In the world of portable DAC/amps, the AQDF is considered tiny. The smallest solutions are all the size of a USB flash drive. Standard size portables are roughly the footprint of a phone and 2 to 6 phone heights thick in comparison.

If you need the least bulky option, the included USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and built-in DAC are your best bet.

So Google's $20 converters have no DAC built in? I guess I must be misunderstanding what is needed to listen to normal headphones with the Pixel 2 then ...
It might have something in it but it's not yet clear what. I posted about this in another thread today, drawing a hypothesis that Google is possibly using the same adapter cable as Essential, which is made by Foxconn and contains an active chipset inside. Here's the post: https://forums.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?t=837670&p=6005597&viewfull=1#post6005597

Ok cool , thanks. Google seems to indicate that you can use any normal headphones with these so I guess if that's true I would greatly prefer this over the other option you mentioned. I guess we'll learn a lot in a few weeks in any case.

Oh, if that's your question then yes, any 3.5mm TRS or TRRS headphones/headset will work in the adapter. I must have misunderstood your question.

What I'm curious about is if there's a chipset inside the adapter like Essential or if it's a dead pass-through like Motorola. I suspect it might be the former. It only matters to those who might purchase spare 3.5mm adapters since one with a chipset would have to come from Google.

I'm pretty sure it's pass through

Yes...that adaptor is designed to allow you use standard a standard 3.5 plug from your buds or headphones phones

I thought the same about the Essential but my pass-through Motorola adapter didn't work. Plus, the Essential gave me notifications of a firmware update when plugging in the adapter for the first time. Google might be using the same stuff.

Lol. A firmware update for an adapter. I think it's safe to say with some certainty that we're moving away from simple with our wonderful new technology

Ha... so true. Today's rumor of a 4000mAh BlackBerry Motion with 3.5mm jack had me laughing about all the posts complaining of small batteries and no jacks. Unless the display is junk or the price is wrong, this one's going on my radar. Flagship be damned. :D

I went to Verizon and played with the V30. I had the G3, V10 and now have the V20, both with very few issues. I must say the V30 feels and looks beautiful and the camera was very quick in my short time playing with it. I am one of those who refuse to give up my headphone jack. I am also a big fan of the wide angle camera, and the V30 is quite a step up from the V20 in that department. We are switching to T-Mobile for the 55+ Unlimited (2 lines for $60) plan so I will have to get a new phone and the Pixel will not be available when I switch.

Has the image processing improved? And does the camera app launch faster? In my V20 and G6 the pictures looked stunning until you zoomed in on a photo and saw so many artifacts. Yes I know if you zoom the quality is not going to be great but the LGs suffer far worse than others. I'll most likely be ordering one to play around with.

This is why I'm holding off on ordering the pixel until the mate 10 is announced. 4000mah battery and possibly keeping the ir blaster.

I was in the same boat until this morning. I was all set on the v30 but i went in to verizon to try it out and i hate to say it but i felt my htc u11 had a better camera especially on the front camera. The software is great but I just cant get passed that horrible selfie camera. So if you dont really care about the front camera then the v30 is for you but other than the rear wide angle camera i really felt like my u11 took better shots. Taking my chances on the pixel 2 xl.

I just received my V30 today, great phone but Pixel 2 XL will be my daily driver. V30 is great but not not sure how software holds up long term and also I need latest software updates, security updates on my daily driver. I got this on jump will most likely use as my multimedia phone.

What are your top three favorite things and top one least favorite?

Just spent few hours with it so not much time.

1. Feels good in the hand, feels so light and at the same time premium.
2. Back camera especially the wide angle, already took some nice shots.
3. HiFi DAC which I haven't gotten to test still (hoping it's great like previous V series phones).

Bad:
1. Personal preference, but not a fan of LG skin or any OEM skin but Nova resolves to some extent.
2. Front camera is below average especially considering both iPhone X and Pixel are supposed to have great front facing cameras with Portrait etc. I don't care about portrait but overall front facing quality is not great similar to G6.

Gosh you suck at listening.. I said 1 bad thing! Geesh!

lol just kidding, so good 3 I've heard it's even better than the first two. Super exciting.

I'm sorta jealous because I want to play with a V30 for a couple months but just spent way too much on a bunch of Google crap. Really hope you love it but I understand why you won't daily it.

Yeah I too spent a bulk load on Google but got this one on jump on demand. I think my next jump will be S9. Pixels and iPhones I get them outright others thru jump or other discounts.

I currently have a Pixel XL and was all set to upgrade to the 2 but I'm being swayed by the LG V30. It just looks better in almost every area and isn't as bland as the Google phone. I'm very impulsive and can't wait till October 4th to see what the XL 2 will offer. Do you think it will actually be any better than the V30?
Talk you out of getting the V30? Ok...

Here ya go.
