Text messages app

I keep it simple no tablets, computer or watch tied to my phone .

Probably stick with Samsung messages because its own app works for this purpose even though Google app now default also .
I don't use texting on tablet or computer either, just on the phone.

I used to not, but I do now. My tablet is pretty much set up like my phone. When I get home I usually leave my phone sitting in the kitchen and don't use it as I use my tablet. I do want my messages popping up on all my devices, specially my watch as I'm not by the tablet all the time either.

I went back to Samsung messages as it works well. I'll give Google messages a try down the road again

I previously used default Samsung messages but about 5 or 6 mos ago I switched to Google messages to have the RCS iPhone emoji reply capabilities. Yes can still use talk to text. No issues for me at all.

I use Google also now and people will reply and ask how I did the emoji reply like iphone people do. I like it so far.

Via Google Messages (via googling messages dot com), one can essentially SMS from a tablet (via/from the phone), or also via any other Android device that has access to Play Store. Via Samsung flow, one can essential do the same (SMS from a tablet, via a Samsung tablet)?

On my Chrome Book, there are two different "Messages Apps by Google", via Play Store.

Google Messages, Google Samsung Skinned Messages, Google Messages via google messages dot com. All of it is kind of confusing, in my opinion. I am kind of confused why there are allowed apps with the same name, in Play Store.

Because they are 3 different things.

I can't find "Samsung Skinned Google Messages" anywhere, so I don't know much about it other than what folks here in AC have mentioned.

SMS via google messages dot com I understand. Basically, tunnelling over the web back to one's phone, in order to have the phone send/receive SMS messages, but accessing and controlling that basically remotely from another device, to provide that functionality at the other device and basically a sense that one is actually sending/receiving from the other device. Same thing with using via Samsung Flow, for between Samsung devices.

The fact that there are two different "Google Messages" apps (both from google, not some other developer or with a trick app name) available from Play Store for my Chrome Book, is bewildering. I've had both of them installed before at the same time, and because my Chrome Book isn't a SIM device and isn't natively capable of SMS, neither of the apps seem to really do anything other than being a proxy front to google messages dot com.

Blame Samsung for that one.

Yeah I do blame Samsung. I will probably just get a Pixel for my next phone, to be rid of the need for also all the Samsung Account and layer of stuff, ontop of also all the Google Account stuff.

Only thing I don't like about google is it always seems to auto sign in to any/all google services and using the main Google Account used in the phone/tablet for Google Play Store. I can't use the Chrome Browser to visit Google.com or do a google search engine search, for example on my Samsung tablet or phone, without all of that also being associated back to my google play store account. The Chrome Browser just always has me signed in, and nothing I can do to stop it or keep the Browser signed out. I have to use the Samsung Browser, to prevent me from being auto signed in. On the Chrome Book it is even worse. I can't for example use the native youTube app without it having me signed in.

Play store is another kettle of fish. But chrome? Very easy to sign out and stay out.

For me on my Samsung Phone and on my Samsung Tablet, if I use the Chrome Browser I can force sign out, but if I then use the Chrome Browser to visit Google.com or Google.ca, it'll auto sign me back in. On my Chrome Book, in the Chrome Browser I can't even force a sign out. I basically now just never use the Chrome Browser.

I will throw another vote for Textra out there. I have been using it for years and it just has so many features. I really like it. (Yeah yeah, RCS or whatever...does not bother me since texts are becoming less of a thing).

I would rather use textra also, but they don't have split screen for my fold 4 and when I'm using the S22U it doesn't let me do the call and text on other devices. So unfortunately I had leave textra..I do miss it.

I switched between the VZW text app and then Samsung's...only because VZW was having some issues. I never used the Google text app...but I will check it out. For texting, I don't text or sync with a tablet or laptop -- just my phone! Thanks for the great insight and experience.

Presumably, via chat there's security/encryption and a richer experience. In my opinion, google chat is basically just another third party proprietary messaging app.

Been using the Samsung Messages for SMS since my S8 (August 2017). It just works, does what I need it to do when I need it to do it.
