Text Messages Showing Cell Number

add 1- in front of the phone #s for your contacts, making sure they are in the 1-XXX-XXXX format.
this fixed it for me.

Just tried it, didn't work :( It now shows the number in the 1-XXX-XXXX format.

Pablo

PS: Let me reboot the phone...

I saw it gone from one of my conversations and was thrilled. scrolled up to see if it was still in the history, it was... scrolled back down... and it showed back up!

This is certainly just a buggy app =/ I'll keep using it though as it's the lesser of the problems I have w/ sms/mms right now, heh.

I just wish Sprint would say it's a bug and not a "feature." At least that way it's something they're working on fixing...

Yea, def a bug. Sometimes its there, for some contacts and not there for others and it's totally unnecessary

FOUND A FIX :D

When you're messaging these people with the numbers next to their name, tap the contact picture in the sms app and hit "View"

Then, hit "Edit" to edit the contact.

If this person has more than one number listed whether it's a "Home" phone or "Mobile" phone, whatever type, it WILL show their number next to their name in the SMS App at all times.
****NOTE: If they have an email address associated with them as well, that will cause the number to show in sms****

If you DONT want that, delete the extra numbers associated with that contact and make a separate contact for them.

Ex.

Mom has 1)Mobile- 222222222 & 2)Home-9999999999

DELETE "Home" and make a separate contact Mom Home (if you really dont want to see the number in the sms app and still want Mom's home number)

Let me point out, not only is it if you have more than one number, it also does it if you have an email for that contact as well.

Please refer to my previous post, it is edited now.

No problem!

I just started to study the contacts and noticed that it was only happening to those with more than one number or an email stored in the contact.

I use Handcent but I just went into my messaging app cause when I 1st got the phone we noticed it was showing numbers. I have 2 text right now and one person all I have in my contacts is her cell number nothing else and for the other I have several numbers. It shows one number next the name with all the numbers and the person who I just have one number for which is her cell it doesn't have her number next to her name.

That fix didn't work for me, I only have on number associated with most of my contacts. :(

Tried it with a second contact and it still shows the number :(

What I also noticed is that it shows the person's email. I know you mentioned that you should delete by going to "edit"; I did that, but somehow it's connected or "linked" to Facebook HTC. I could unlink it but then I lose the image.

This happened with a few contacts, and then I just stopped.

I just realized that my one friend he is in my phonebook and all he has is a cell so he's only in there with one number but multiple emails cause he's linked to my Facebook. But this other person she's linked too from Facebook and only has one number but his shows his number and hers doesn't. I just thought of that cause someone said if they have one number it won't show the number that it only does if you have multiple numbers and then I thought about it and was like well they both onlyh ave one number he may have 2 emails and her one linked to FB and his linked to FB is different then one I have in my address book but they each are in my book with one number and hsi shows his number and hers don't. I like handcent so I'm not gonna worry about it.

Yea, unfortunately for those who want to have emails and other numbers and accounts linked to one person, you will see the number and that's something you'll have to sacrifice if you dont like it.

I think HTC did it on purpose since some people can receive texts from one contact through multiple numbers. I don't see why email addresses and facebook has to affect it though..

You may have to pick. No number, no facebook. Facebook, you'll have the number.

I personally HATE syncing my Facebook due to the fact that it always adds ALL of my friends to my phonebook.

Another note: I dont want to have to download Handcent or another 3rd party messaging app that will take up space and RAM to do what I want to do.
