The Galaxy Note 22 Ultra

S21 didn't have an SD slot, but considering they are combining the S21 with the Note to make the S22 Ultra a person might think an SD slot would be nice. I will give Samsung credit for only charging $50 for an upgrade from 128 to 256 and then another $50 to go to 512. Google wants 100 to go up from 128 to 256.

100 bucks to go from 128 to 512 is not bad in theory (is 128 going to be the lowest increment or do you also have to pay to go from a 64 to 128?), but it is still another hundred bucks that I shouldn't have to spend on a phone that is already ridiculously expensive.

If they want to ditch the SD card the cost to go to 512 should be nominal. And that still leaves me worse off than I was before even so. I am absolutely never going to be happy with this.

I might add, apart from all of the old and typical reasons for being unhappy with it, I was reading an article recently where the journalist was pointing out that with 4K video, the new high megapixel Samsung cameras we are hearing about, easy downloads of Comcast shows and HD stuff and everything, it is really easy to eat up lots of space. I think he makes a good point.

This, of course, is when Samsung decides to cut off expandable storage.

From what I have read, all just assumptions so far, is it will be like the S21 Ultra that starts at 128gb. Who knows, possibly they might start higher, possibly they might even go as high as 1TB; still too early. However, since the removed the SD try from the 21, I find it hard to believe they would bring it back.
People will scream and threaten not to purchase; however, if all the major companies remove the SD try from their flagship models; it's like an off-road vehicle with tire pressure sensor system; you live with it. So who knows now, maybe the fact Samsung is merging the S22 with the note series; possibly they will include an SD card slot. So far, all I have read is it is a NO, but again, all is speculation some from people who have no idea, they just like to make noise so people will watch their youtube video.

And with the advent of 4K video being standard more space is needed. And now, there are at least three phones that have 8K and one is the current note model; and that comes with a SD card slot.

That gives me some hope that it might somehow work out.

But as for yelling and screaming and doing nothing, that has been true in the past, but it won't be true for me this time. I am usually on a two-year cycle. That would be 2023. I keep threatening to go to three or four. That will definitely happen, so that's one upgrade cycle Samsung will miss. In addition when I see how this shakes out, I might well go back and get another 20 ultra. It's plenty good enough, and that would be a cost-efficient method. It'll be a long time before it feels obsolete between the one I have now and that new one. Probably that will keep me for the next six or seven years.

Upgrades are only incremental now. Until something comes out that I just got to have, maybe it's just time to stop upgrading.

Serious question: I've been using my Note 10 for a while now and I can't seem to find any real-life use for the S pen. What do you all use it for?

I probably use the screen off memo feature the most. If I want to remember something that someone is telling me, I can pull out the spen & start writing on the screen while still looking at the person. It feels less rude than staring at my screen & using the keyboard. It's very quick for any note, reminder, etc. you need to jot down.

I also use the spen for selecting text as my fingernails always seem to get in the way with regular text selection.

The other function I use regularly is the air gestures feature to scroll when I'm using my browser.

I just find it makes things easier for me.
:)

I very seldom used the Spen on the note phones. On the fold 3 I use it all the time. With a bigger Spen and bigger screen it's so much better to use IMO. I use it to scroll thru everything, I'm using it now to reply to you.

I was never a fan of the note because of the s pen, but because it seemed to be their best and greatest in everything even apart from that. It makes certain things easy, like writing text onto pictures or documents to illustrate a point. I do that maybe once a year. I used to use it for screenshots, but the side app on the Note works faster. I keep saying I am going to use it to take notes or something and I never seem to get around to it. That's it.

Sal has a complete page over on another forum with 15 videos on the S22 (or as the upcoming Note).
If videos are interesting, but the guy is really infatuated with this phone.

It does appear, this is what the phone will look like, pricing appears to be still up in the air, I would bet at least 100 or more over the current S21. Not much in advances over the cameras, latest Snapdragon. I do like the squared off edges, and as much as I disliked the rear panel cameras have separate holes in the back vs a panel as in the S21; it is growing on me. But I hate the idea of paying for an S-pen never to be used.

I hate paying for a front facing camera on phones that I never use, but I do because they are a mass produced phone and most want it, most note users want the Spen. If you compared previous years pricing on the notes and S series, the Spen is not breaking the bank in pricing.

Sometimes it would be nice to be able to order phones like computers, custom orders. You select if you want a Spen, a front camera, so on and pay accordingly.
