The joy of the on-screen fingerprint sensor.

I find the fps straight up trash, hopping the note 20+ fixes this issue.

I find it 95% reliable on the note 10+ having thumb, forefinger 90 and45 degrees. Only fails if fingers are overly soaked or overy dry.

I don't know if this is due to my fingers or differences in default protectors applied, by region or by latenes of purchase. Certainly the June update in the UK that some have reported to improve the finger sensor haven't shifted me to the near 100 but I can always understand when it is failing due to excess, or dearth of finger moisture.

My 10+ screen sensor works well, I have it set up for several digits from both hands. It was not very reliable when using a Zagg screen protector so I removed the Zagg.

Hindsight being what it is, I never should have removed the original Samsung screen protector. The sensor worked fine with that.

I have multiple prints of each thumb at different angles saved, it's just not as accurate. I have to try sometimes many times to unlock my phone via the fps. Of course wet it wouldn't work as well, I'm talking about when your fingers are clean lol

Got a Redmi Note 8 Pro instead. It doesn't have Android One or an amoled display but works just fine. I love it.

So glad you are enjoying your new phone! Redmi is a great manufacturer, too! Glad it is working well for you!

Compared to the ease and consistency of the physical fingerprint sensors on my S8, S9, Note 9 and Pixel 3XL, my S20 Ultra in display sensor is hot garbage...in my opinion. Too many errors, where I either have to wipe my finger, wipe the screen or wipe both. It's not convenient when you have to do more work than just tapping a dedicated sensor. I honestly don't know why this is where the industry is leaning towards, when it is less accurate, less secure, and gives you one less way to interact with the device in a consistent and dependable way.

But good on you folks who like their sensors =).

I have been quite disappointed with the in screen FPS on my S20 Ultra. It's my first in screen senor and it is way too inconsistent. Lately, I've re-registered the prints using only two fingerprints. Now seems a little better, but still poor. All of my previous FPS were very reliable. I keep encouraging myself by remembering this uses ultrasonic technology and is supposed to be more secure, but I would trade it out in a second for an old fashioned reliable rear mounted sensor!
I record my fingers twice to give it more chance of getting it right.

I am working with a Note 10+ (being the Note 10 forum and all) and factory shipped and the sensor is 99% good unless my fingers are really dry or just out of the shower bloated.

I have had dryfinger cause issues and just made a fist to moisten the tips to log in but have recently registered a dry thumb and its now good in that curcumstance as well

Given the sensor seemed 99% reliable for days and then not recognisable every time in a 5 minute attempt I looked at what I was doing different and t came down to dry fingers or wrong angles. Recording alternative angles and at different dryness solved it.

It should also be noted that I still just press the sensor now and then, a month later, just to see how easy it is to unlock. Out of the box it works perfectly.

I have only one finger registered 4 times. I have about a 99% success rate that took quite awhile to achieve so I leave well enough alone. This is on a Note 10.

Mine has been working fine for the last while, it went from over 95% success rate to 10% or so after one of the last updates, I deleted and re-registered the prints and it's been fine since.
I do wish we get that newer 17 times bigger sensor in the Note 20 Plus/Ultra though

How is it less secure?

I find my on screen sensor extremely accurate except out of the shower. I could not use any of the others due to the case. I think that the issue is that the on screen one allows more freedom of movement so you may be scanning an unregistered part of the finger because it is acessible from any angle where the previous ones required golding the phone just right even to reach the sensor.

Pretty certain I get a 95% hit rate or more.

You're spending too much time in the shower.
