The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

So my phone began shipment back to me again, but I have not received emails from LG saying what has be done on the phone, nor the LG Track repair website has an details. I guess a phone call is in order to find out some details.

Scary stuff, especially when it was working fine not too long ago.

A small loan of a broken G4
Got into Sprint today, they will replace, without needing TEP, any phone purchased from them prior to 9/21. I'm guessing they pulled from stock any 505-507 as of that date. Hoping mine will be in by Thursday, but the guy said stock goes up and down on these devices, so it could be longer.

Guess I'll try to find my old flip phone and activate it tonight.

Also, I was told I might get a 505-507 as a refurbished one, but it should be repaired. That's making me feel 😕

Cool move from Sprint I guess, although they should go with brand new phones for all the hassle this has caused.

Although I don't disagree, why should Sprint give new phones if other carriers and LG aren't replacing with new phones?

Joined the club on Friday night. Spoke to a T-Mobile chat agent on Saturday who told me I could get a replacement in-store. Walked in, and this wasn't the case. They wanted to charge me $20 for a refurb. I called in and without making a stink I simply told the phone rep what the online rep told me and he lowered it down to $5, and also upgraded my shipping to expedited overnight.

I have my phone now and it looks new, but the serial number starts with 602. It's been a few days since I've read all of this thread, but I haven't seen this number before. The date above is 02/2016. That's what 602 stands for right? 6 (2016) 02 (February). This certainly implies that this is a new and current batch device (without Marshmellow oddly,) so I'm hoping that the kinks are worked out with this batch.

Yep, you've got one of the latest batches. They acknowledged the issue in late January, so I assume it's fixed by then.....hopefully.

Strange. My replacement S/N starts with 512 which I'm sure is fine but I don't see anything related to a date anywhere on the sticker?

The first number is the last digit of the year, the last two numbers are the month.

5=2015
12= December

So LG sent me a message, same repair as before:

Defect:
Power-No power with cable
Repair Results:
Flash Memory

I hope they did it right this time.

It will be interesting what happens with warranty after the 1 year is up (in the USA). Will LG honor the phone for the boot loop issue for out of warranty devices? Hopefully prior to that time the phones that will go bad have already bitten the dust.

My VZ G4 died last Friday, 505 s/n. The replacement also has a s/n beginning with 505. Hope this is one they fixed. I know I'll be backing this up on a regular basis, as I don't trust it now.
So far the so called refurb is running fine.

Finally got the G4 back.
They replaced the motherboard but didn't replace the entire phone. Whatever, it's working.
Now for the hard part: convince myself to go through the nightmare that is selling the phone because otherwise I have absolutely zero use for it now.

Try it on Swappa.com or an EU alternative?

See if you can get back even a quarter of what you paid for the S7.

Problem isn't so much with selling it (I sold an used Z1 last October for 200€...which is way more than the phone was worth at that point) but rather me being very lazy to go through the hassle of selling anything. Which sort of explains why I have the house hull of phones lol

And honestly, with the value of the G4 going so quickly down (on swappa one's selling for €325), I'm not sure I'm willing to sell it for less than 400€. The lower I'd probably go would be 350€ but anything bellow that and I am sure I won't do it. We'll see.

In the meantime...I think I'm going to take the chance to make some camera tests against the S7. Who knows...maybe the G4 will even be lucky enough to save itself from the axe :P

I think I know what to expect.

The S7 will pull ahead in low-light while the G4 might have a small advantage in daylight.

Yeah, I miss it.

I'm actually sending those from my old One M7, which I flashed the GPe ROM on not too long ago.

Nice. I never had a GPE device, but thinking about it makes me miss my Nexus 5. I recently went back to Google Now Launcher on my G4 and loving it. I was on Action Launcher 3, which is similar to stock. I missed the straight up stock experience though.

I actually wish LG took the Sony route and release an optional stock Android-based ROM that's similar to a GPe ROM for those who want that Nexus-like experience but want the features of the G4.

And maybe even do what Google is currently doing with Android N, and that's allowing those with eligible devices to download beta software if they want to.
