So how does that make it not as big of an issue?

The 6 Plus is fairly popular despite its size even though it's an ergonomic nightmare with the flat slippery aluminum back.
The Nexus 6 on the other hand should prove to be even easier to use due to the curved back and soft touch plastic. They are roughly the same size except the Nexus 6 is a little bit wider but you gain nearly 0.5 inches in screen real estate.

Ok, so there is no issue as long as you like phablets/MCCDs.

I haven't owned a phablet yet I find the size to be manageable. Unfortunately the days of 4 inch smartphones are past us and with manufacturers continuing to up the screen size, devices the size of the Note 4 and Nexus 6 will become the norm in the near future.

4" phones are one thing, but phablets are another mess entirely. I have handled a few different phablets and I haven't found them too conducive to one handed use.

I guess it really depends on hand size, I can palm a basketball fairly easily and use an iPad Air in the palm of my hand. With that said, I have limited experience with "phablets" and so far the size doesn't seem to bother me too much, I feel as if I could get used to the size fairly quickly and be able to one hand the majority of tasks.

I have rather large hands as well. I can palm my Nexus 7 without too much difficulty. Can I use it with one hand like my N5? No. Do I want to hold something that big next to my head to make a call? Not really, no. Would it be helpful if I could put it in my pants pocket? Actually, yes it would.

Here is a size compare of the Note 4 vs the Nexus 6.
Google Nexus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - Visual phone size compare
Here is the Nexus 6 vs the Nokia 1520:
Google Nexus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - Visual phone size compare
The 1520 is a monstrosity. Anyway you slice it the phone is huge. I dont have a problem with a Nexus phablet. Obviously, there is a market for it. The market however is probably about 1/6th the size of the more traditionally sized phone market. Not to mention that vanilla android offers nothing in terms of additionally functionality to that giant display. That's what I don't understand. Google is forcing people who want to use their latest version of android into a phone with subpar battery life and camera (Nexus 5) or a giant phablet (Nexus 6).
Seems like an odd strategy.

The phablet market is the fastest growing phone market segment.... was 1% of the market when the original Note was released and up to 24% of the market in 2014.... There is room for growth in that 5 inch and larger segment where as the sub 5 inch market is saturated already.... Even Apple jumped into the market after YEARS of saying that 3.5 - 4 inch was the ideal smart phone size.......
Heck I use to think the Note series was outrageous and over time it's what I've been looking for since last year but in a more pure android flavor like the Nexus.... So this is without a doubt what I wanted and was looking for......
That being said.... I don't see why they couldn't have released a refreshed Nexus 5 for 2014 along side the Nexus 6.... Only thing I can think of is the Moto X pure edition is the refreshed Nexus 5 in Google's eyes.... It's about as close to stock android as you can get without actually getting a Nexus 5 and has more up to date 2014 specs.... just a little more pricey ($100 more) than the Nexus 5 was....
