The iPhones notch is half the size vertically as the Pixel 3 XL notch... even non techies will think it is ugly and not buy it.

Actually more of us will buy it because we know we can "hide" it or we know why it is there. The Pixel market is much more Techie than iPhone and Samsung.

Why do you think Apple used a home screen background that hid the notch in all the release photos?

I think the Apple notch may be bigger. It takes up 55.7% of the width of the device at the widest part and 3.5% of the height. I'll double check the estimates on the Pixel 3 XL in a bit.

I have nothing on my mind right now, but a new phone.

Talk to many people about the new Pixel 3XL phone.
Show them a picture of what is presumed to be the new Pixel 3 XL phone.

Tell them how it's sim unlocked.
Hear it has a great camera.
Gets software updates 1st.

Very 1st thing they see is the notch.
They ask , why the notch.
It's like a big wart on your face.
I don't like it.

All I can say is it's Google's thing.
They got 2 camera lens there for selfies.
Then I get the question.
You a selfie kind of person.
Not really.

Is really, What was Google Thinking, to put a notch on a phone.
That nobody would mind, or they just didn't care.

You have to ask yourself....do I really think Google or any other major OEM designs a product without doing market research that involves real people?

I don't care about the notch but if I did I actually prefer the Google setup over the Iphone for two reasons.

First reason is functuon:. Apples method gives you less notification bar.

Second reason is cosmetic: I actually like the look better.

I don't listen to what others say. If I did I would be buying what someone else likes. My only regret with Pixel is I didn't buy the original because I didn't like the huge bezels and at the time my opinion of cell cameras was that they all sucked compared to dedicated cameras.
My experience with the Pixel 2XL changed my opinion of cell cameras.

Look at your phone right now
You see where the notification is at ? Under the bezel wouldn't it look better in the bezel? That needs to be cleaned up ..the notch is not that bad
