The Note 8 Fingerprint Sensor works just fine for me

My opinion remains the same as it was with my S8+. The FPS location isn't good. But having an iris scanner mitigates things quite a bit, because I can still (effectively) unlock my phone by pressing the home button with my thumb.

Of course, this is really just a debate about preferences. If you have larger hands, you're probably going to like the FPS where it is. If not, you'll find it suboptimal to some degree.

I will say, however, that having the FPS on the back does have one added benefit: it allows me to pull down the notification tab when holding my phone in one hand!

Just figured out something cool. Issue with FPS was me to slide Samsung pay up with thumb and try to find FPS to authenticate. Found an option to slide up in FPS to open Samsung pay and authenticate. This made it simpler. Good thinking by Samsung to mitigate bad placement.

I don't see a big issue with it either, and I don't have large hands. It seems sometimes these reviewers just pile on to one "flaw" and others just follow suit.

I prefer the location that my 6P had but this will be fine I suppose lol, it works though at least and very fast.

That still doesn't diminish the validity of other people's complaints. Just because you have no issues with it doesn't mean others won't have any issues with the terrible placement of the FPS.
And terrible placement is totally your opinion. Doesn't diminish The validity of other people not having a problem with it.

I have opposite experience. I can't get it to work and have retake the finger print several times. It just keeps telling me to put my entire finger over the sensor of which I am doing. I dislike it.
I don't have the Note 8, but the S8. I had to disable facial recognition to get my fingerprint scanner to work well. About 98% success left hand, 85% with right hand.

The terrible placement of the FPS isn't subjective, it's objective. It requires a person to reach far and up to unlock a phone. It's not ergonomic at all. A human shouldn't reach and stretch to use something. The FPS should be in a natural position on the back where fingers will rest when holding the device.

I wonder if those complaining understand that you can't have a front facing fingerprint sensor and maximal screen space on the front of the phone. The choice is that beautiful infinity display (or equivalent on other phones) or the sensor. You can't have both. For me they made the right choice to move it to the back. You use the sensor for a brief moment, but the screen whenever you use the phone. A big screen in with as small a phone footprint as possible is the way to go.

The complaint that the proximity to the camera sensor will cause smudges is close to ludicrous and presumes a user who is incapable of learning or crafting a not terribly complex plan to avoid that. It's particularly easy to locate the sensor without touching the camera if you have a case which conveniently guides your finger to the sensor. But even without the case, the ridge around the sensor is a handy guide which should stop you from touching the camera assuming you have the sense to use it, and have your first touch err on the side away from the camera.

There is some sense to the complaint that it may be hard to reach if you have small hands. Perhaps so, but adjusting your grip fixes that. Pick up the phone holding higher, then adjust to your normal grip after it's open. Of course if your hand is small, the enormous size of the screen will be a problem anyway, so maybe the note isn't the right phone.

The whole critique is largely an exercise in nit picking and refusing to appreciate that people have the ability to adapt.

I found the S8+ fps to work better with a case like the samsung ones which separated it from the camera. That said, i had no issue with it then and no issue with it on the N8 now. I suppose I'm one of the lucky few.

I didn't set mine up until last night after having the phone almost a week, and so far I don't have any real trouble unlocking the phone with it. I did have to remove my case to set it up as it made it easier to roll my fingers around, but I haven't had any issues with it all day. I don't have gigantic hands, but they're not small either. Totally content with FPS placement on this device. And I'll take it over face ID and "swipe up" :)

You're so dramatic. Reach far up. Come on. I don't know how you hold your phone but it's less than an inch of a reach and stretch for my finger, which must be in real good shape as far as fingers go because I find it pretty easy. I've gotten to the point where when I reach into my pocket I just slide my finger onto the sensor as I'm pulling the phone out and it's ready to roll.

It's subjective. 100%. I'd be willing to bet you've never even tried it.

The one thing that's for sure: I'd rather have a poorly-placed fingerprint sensor than no fingerprint sensor at all like on the iPhone X.

I have no issues with fingerprint reader, I use the irisis scanner more it seems to work better then the s8 plus, it never worked in the dark but the note 8 dose
