The Official Battery Life Thread

Why don't you guys just use the Maximum Battery mode? Im at 9hrs right now and 40% left. No need to turn off 4G. I did have WiFi on though. But what it does is disable data updates after 15min of inactivity.

worth trying...tomorrow's test. sort of doing the 3g test today...working pretty well. but sad i gotta "downgrade" the upgraded phone to make it last longer.

Hopefully somebody will find a good way to switch back and forth easily than the settings. You are only not using the phone's data capabilities to the full potential if you turn off 4G...the phone is still an upgrade from mostly everything Verizon has to offer.

Another great battery day for me.

Reading these replies, I am really beginning to think that some of you have lemon phones! I have now switched batteries to the spare from the Costco bundle to see if one battery outdoes the other.

I got up at 7, unplugged the phone. Then talked for 2h with sister while getting kids ready for school, etc. Got in car to go to work at 9. Bluetooth, Wifi and 4G on all day. At work had phone sit from 9-noon, then played with phone for an hour. Again on standby till 2pm. Picked up kids, talked on phone some more, played Words with Friends, Twitter stuff, FB, etc, etc. Downloaded some Amazon apps and read kindle app in bathtub for an hour tonight.

It's now 10pm and my battery says 70%!

I have been thinking about switching 4G to 3G just to test out the difference but I am notally not motivated since my battery life is just unbelievable.

I am thinking those of you with super fast draining batteries should exchange your units!

Katherine
Are you using wifi all day? Battery lasts a lot longer on wifi than on 4G.

do this... WiFi kills battery on the Bionic... fer reals-

Is there a significant difference with nighttime battery mode vs. Maximum battery mode? Would I still receive all email / txt notifications?

when on Maximum Battery Saver mode, if on the charger, the Data is on forever.
When off the Charger after 15mins of inactivity, data turns off meaning Email non, but txt/calls youll get-

today wasn't as ridiculous as yesterday's life, but still not where i'd like it to be. for some reason, the phone still drops 10% right after getting off the charger...not sure what that's about. at least this time i spent some time in areas with no reception, so that could be a factor

12h on battery, 40% left
display only on for 1 hr, mostly 3G, and 5 minutes worth of talking. went on facebook and also checked my settings, but other than that, that's it. the phone was on my desk or in my pocket the rest of the time (i had my laptop with me all day so it's not like i was constantly checking news/fbook)

if any new news gets announced about the prime in the next week, this phone is gone. even without any news, i'm finding it harder as the days go by to justify keeping this phone.

You're thinking a phone with 4G, a higher res screen, and 1000MHz more processing power is going to get better battery life? I'm thinking short battery life is the price we'll pay for the power these devices have now, at least until there's a breakthrough in battery tech.

That being said I do think you should be getting slightly more life then you are if you're only using 3G but it depends on how much signal strength you have too. With a bad signal 3G will suck your battery empty pretty fast too.

I'm at 30% right now after 12:30 on battery and 1:30 screen on time. That's using 4G all day with full signal strength.

I was about to say that to...if the specs hold true on any other new devices, they will have better tech, but better tech always means worse battery life. That's why my mom's Dell Inspiron can last like as long as Macbook on a single charge, and I have to charge my Lenovo ideapad every two and half hours.

On mine i have a 1% increments battery widget. The Bionic says fully charged at 95%. i usually wait till the 100% then pull it off-

What widget are you using? The one I have uses the same 10% increments just like the phone.

LTE Switch is descent. It's a shortcut to the mobile network settings menu. It's not as bad as digging in the menus from the main menu.

I believe part of the bionic's battery issues are due to gingerbread not supporting multiple CPU cores. This mean when one core is maxed out both are. I think we'll see much better battery life in ice cream sandwich.

Respectfully you don't know what you are talking about. Froyo, Gingerbread, and Honeycomb ALL support dual core hardware (this is written into the version of the Linux kernel they run on). They and most apps are not yet "optimized" (able to take full advantage of them) but they are fully supported. Android will not run any worse on a dual core device than on a single one; until it is optimized, however, the improvement will be minimal at best.

Signal issues are caused by a variety of things

1. Poor or inconsistent signal (ie always searching for signal)
2. Poorly designed apps or apps that run in the background when not needed
3. Annal retentive users who obsess with battery life checking it all the time and installing third party apps to monitor/"improve" it.

For tor the record yesterday my Thunderbolt with extended battery died at work and was down to 15% today at the end of the day. My Bionic on the "stock" battery ended the day at 40% today and about 60% yesterday. This is in a notorious poor signal area and I have even killed Blackberry batteries. No unexpected apps running in the background.

Circle Battery Widget is a good one.

OK, thanks. While downloading it, I also came across Battery Circle. It allows me to add the percentage to the notification bar, as well as customizing the text.

Anybody know how to launch the stock launcher? I've been using an alternative launcher (Zeam) since day 1, and I thought it may be worthwhile to launch the stock launcher and remove all of the widgets from the home screens just in case.

Now when I clear the defaults from Zeam Launcher, the only launchers it allows me to use is the Xperia launcher (I installed) and Zeam. I can't find the stock one.
