The Official Battery Life Thread

When replying to this thread, I think it would be appropriate to state if you are in a 4G area or not. This will give a clear indication whether or not the LTE radio is the cause.

I have the same maps issue as well...its using 50% of my resources....meanwhile I have GPS off and I have maps closed

I'm at 13 hours off the charger with moderate to heavy use today and am at 60%. My original droid would have been almost dead by lunch had I not put it to charge.
I am using the extended battery and am glad I sprung the extra $25 for it.

So far this phone is great...especially zumo cast....Wow how cool is that!!!
The only thing I don't like is the display. It is no match for the Charge, but I'll take it if I can have a phone like the Bionic and not be tied to the wall charger all day.

Re: YIKES, on battery life!

i think he means the built in android task manager that comes stock with the phone.
Actually that is added by Motorola, stock android (ie the nexus phones) does not have task managers in them because as has been said they are not needed anymore.

I agree, LTE is the biggest drain on your battery and that is not going to change anytime soon.

As for the comment above about Maps using a ton of battery I would Force Stop the app (Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Maps and press Force Stop). Not sure why maps is using that much juice but that should stop ot.

Okay guys so I had moderate use today on my Bionic, on and off at work with about 5 webpages open and 4g on and off. 4g used about 70% of the time 3g 30%. I was also playing cut the rope for about 20mins and watched 1 HQ video for 5mins.
I was constantly on the web off and on for about 4 hours looking and forum pages. 12hrs 54m 55s later I was at 5%. Beautiful battery life!
I get great 4g all around my city.
I'll try the extended battery tomorrow with moderate use.

Well, I live in a 4G area. I charged my phone up to full, pulled it off the charger, and then went to bed. Woke up, played a few games, watched some videos, then went off to work. I drive a lot, and used my phone to play music as I drove. I have my battery mode on performance, so everything is running (twitter, GPS, facebook, every other data whoring app). Currently I'm at 30% with a 17H 23M since last charged time. I won't charge it again until the phone is completely dead. I believe the battery life is absolutely amazing so far.

I'm a Thunderbolt owner. Not here trolling, just curious how the new kid on the block is doing, especially regarding battery life. I will say this, whether or not your phone is using 4G LTE or not will probably make a big difference in battery life, so that is a relevant piece of information when posting...at least from my experience with a 4G device. I've actually rooted, ROMed, and tweaked my phone to just where I like it, and to where my battery life is actually pretty good, but I easily get 2 to 3 times the battery life when using CDMA only modes (3G) versus 4G LTE radio modes -- and I'm talking about in standby.

For the first few uses, should I let it completly die or get it to 5% before plugging it in???

Well, I have to say that the battery life is blowing my mind. I took it off the charger at 100% around 7:15 this morning. I messed around with it quite a bit all day, doing plenty of texting, talking on the phone for a few, downloaded a couple of apps, screwed around with various settings, etc. Right now, 14 hours later, it's sitting at 50%. Despite the fact I wasn't doing any music streaming, watching Netflix, or surfing the web, I'd say that's really, really impressive for a 4G/Dual Core/4.3" Display phone. Loving it.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I live and work in a strong 4G area and that's all I'm using (no wifi). Haven't seen it switch to 3G once. Also have my display set to auto-brightness and all haptic feedback turned off. And I'm not using the extended battery.

8am off the charger, moderate use and about 3:00p it's down 30%... Not impressed. But I read others getting a lot of battery life.. Don't understand. :'(

Made a trip to Cleveland today and had it plugged into the car the whole trip. Took it off the charger at 10am. Played with it for maybe 20 minutes while waiting in a lobby, than put it in my pocket. Left my appointments at 1230pm and checked my phone it was at 40%. Went to lunch and text my wife a few times, got back into the car at 1:30 and I was at 20%. I am not impressed at all with the battery life. I went to the mall with my wife tonight and she was doing her thing I walked into Verizon. They were all trying to sell people the phone and saying the battery life was amazing. I checked the phone and it was 70% battery after 23 minutes on battery. 4G is sucking this phone down big time :(

Battery life has improved drastically since the middle of the day. I swapped batteries and have quit playing with the phone so much and now it's settled into decent longevity. Either I was harder on the phone in the morning than I thought, or the second battery is stronger than the first. I bet it's all the tinkering I did in the morning...

In addition to that it might also help if folks were saying what they had their screen brightness set to, their sync cycle if they are connecting to POP based email and if they have any app that seems to be using a lot of resources.

NEVER EVER let a Lithium Ion battery completely die if you can help it, they have a set number of times that they can be completely expended and then they will loose life and eventually completely refuse to hold a charge.

I did get the extended battery because i'm frequently unable to charge mine for 9 or 10 hours out of the day(sometimes more). The extended battery is 2760 mAh and it holds a charge. Surfing, syncing, updating, speed testing, downloading and this was at about 50 percent after a 10 hour day (4 hours of heavy use)

I mean I wish the battery life on the stock were longer, but honestly I can't complain about this aspect of the phone...

I haven't decided whether to get the extended battery yet. Mostly because I like how the Bionic looks, I don't want it putting on some extra weight, but longer battery life is nice. Probably after a week with the phone I'll decide whether the stock battery is good enough.

i love this this, i abused the 4G alot today
