The Official Battery Life Thread

Wifi on my phone seems to be worse on the battery than leaving it in 4g. Thank god for unlimited data.

Don't forget to include the display on time, so we know how much you actually used the phone.

Is the graph showing display "On Time" or is it showing how much battery "percentage" the display used?

im on the lowest brightness, umadbro?

Why would I be mad? I had the phone, after 52 minutes off the charger I was down to 70%, I didnt touch the phone again for an hour and a half and it was at 40%. Recharged it and it dropped again with moderate use on the lowest brightness setting. Add that to the hiss in the headphones and a bad camera the phone isnt a keeper imo. I could deal with the pixelated screen it didnt both me too much, but those 3 things were deal breakers for me. So now I wait for the Prime/Vigor/iPhone 5.

You can turn off data services, but I wasn't trying to artificially extend time. What I was showing was my normal useage for the day. On my X if it got down to 5 or 10 percent battery it would be turning off almost immediately. With this phone on extended battery it stayed on for litterally 2 to 3 hours after hitting 10% on the battery. Granted I didn't do a whole lot of stuff after that, but that is pretty amazing (or the calibration is off and it wasn't really at 10%)

Sometimes with extended batteries the phone can't display how much battery you actually have left. It can't calibrate correctly for that many milli-amps

Just got my Bionic today and so far I LOVE it. I actually think the battery life is FANTASTIC! I had to return a TBolt when it first came out because it only lasted 6h or maybe 8h on standby! YIYEKS.

Anyway, charged battery for first time today from 11:30-1pm. Then played with in continuously pretty much till now (9:30pm) with 50% battery left.

Disabled all GPS except Verizon location (GPS is a huge battery killer)
Autoscreenbrightness on although tonight I took it off and turned it on bright manually because I don't like a dim screen
Wifi on all day at home
4G on all day (we live in 4G but wifi is on at home). Taking dog on walk switched to 4G. Shopping - 4G.
Left on haptic feedback. Love that so if battery is good, will leave it on
No bluetooth use
Made phone calls, downloaded a million things, surfed web, etc. Pretty much heavy use.
Did NOT download videos or watch youtube, etc today.

So far, to have 50% battery after 8+h of use is really great in my mind.

Tomorrow I am going to turn off LTE and report back using wifi and 3G. Should be even better. :D

After I posted this, I went to bed and read my Kindle app on the phone until 1am when the battery finally flashed red. I kept reading for another 30 min when I got the message that I am under 5% battery. THEN I finally plugged in. So add another 3h to my above report! WOW!!

Whoever is posting that the battery is down to 70% after an hour or two - there has got to be something wrong! Go exchange the phone.

Today I left 4G and wireless and added a life wallpaper for curiosity. Still showing 100% battery after 3h of use!

3G ONLY AREA.
I have used my phone heavily for the last two days for about 15 hours each day. Lots of websurfing, watched a Netflix movie, a little YouTube, but only about 15 minutes of actual talk time (yeah, it makes calls too in case you forgot). Both days it was at 20% when I went to bed and put it in the dock. This is at least two times the battery life my OG Droid would have given me. If the battery use screen is correct, I think the biggest improvement is the screen. On my OG Droid it was always at the top of the list, often over 50% of use. Now the screen is third or fourth and rides in at about 20% which is amazing since everthing I am doing is with the screen on. It almost seems too good to be true, I actually wonder about the accuracy of this.

shouldn't it show how much the display power the display is using in the battery? if yes it's not showing in mine only cell standby, phone idle and android os.

I watched over a 149 minute long youtube video with 4g, automatic push notifications and auto brightness and it was at 30% left. In total, that whole battery lifetime was over 4 hours to that 30% left over.

Just using 3g and wifi with moderate usage I got around 16 hours of usage and it still had 20% left before I went to charge it. This again was with automatic push notifications and auto brightness.

Well, I have to say that the battery life is blowing my mind. I took it off the charger at 100% around 7:15 this morning. I messed around with it quite a bit all day, doing plenty of texting, talking on the phone for a few, downloaded a couple of apps, screwed around with various settings, etc. Right now, 14 hours later, it's sitting at 50%. Despite the fact I wasn't doing any music streaming, watching Netflix, or surfing the web, I'd say that's really, really impressive for a 4G/Dual Core/4.3" Display phone. Loving it.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I live and work in a strong 4G area and that's all I'm using (no wifi). Haven't seen it switch to 3G once. Also have my display set to auto-brightness and all haptic feedback turned off. And I'm not using the extended battery.

Just posting a follow-up to this. I'm just finally plugging my phone in now. That's right. It's been going for 35 hours and sits at 10%. Certainly not under heavy usage, but still quite a feat. In addition to the things I did with it yesterday, which is mentioned in my original post above, I've done some texting, email reading, and downloaded an app today (haven't used it much today, as I've been busy). I don't have a camera to take a pic of the battery usage stats screen, but I'll type them out for you:

Time off charger: 1d 11h 19m
Cell Standby: 47%
Phone Idle: 45%
Voice Calls: 6%
Display: 3%
Android OS: 2%

I'm beyond impressed with the battery life. Wow. My Droid Incredible would have been long dead by now under the same usage. That's a fact. Loving this phone. :D

EDIT: I also probably should have noted that the battery mode I have it in is "Nightime saver", which is the default.

Got the Bionic yesterday and did a full battery charge overnight. The phone is awesome - especially the 4G speed - it's literally faster than WiFi at my house.

Unfortunately the phone is so much phone that I'm down to about 15% after using it all day - about 8 hours of heavier than average use. The good news is I just went to Verizon online and bought an extended battery with cover for only $29! It's 2700 mAmps so it's about 50% larger than the standard battery. I'll use it for trips.

i dont know what yall are doing but im getting roughly 6hrs max on this phone and all ive been doing is heavy texting and a little web browsing on 4g. i wonder if its smarter to run automatic brightness or keep it at the 25% level

i'm really starting to lean towards returning this phone. i charged it fully overnight again, took it off the charger around 10am. by 6pm it was at 40%, and i barely used it all day. compare this to the HTC sensation (also a 4G phone, but on tmobile):

"I had unplugged the HTC Sensation 22 hours ago, carried it with me for a late brunch, shot and shared a couple of photos on Facebook, then check a few emails over the day, but the phone mostly sat down, checking for push-email (Exchange+Gmail) and Facebook notification. I did disconnect WIFI while I was out, and forgot to turn it on again later. HSPA+ was ON (T-mo’s “4G”), however. 22 hours later, I have 61% of battery life left. Very good, right?"

HTC Sensation Review | Ubergizmo

If a 4G phone can have that kind of battery life while idle, why can't the Bionic? :-\

I got about 15hrs of battery life with light to moderate use and one 30 min video. Running 4g 90% of the time. I wouldve gotten around 3-4 on my thunderbolt so just with that it makes the phone a winner by far

Probably auto because you don't need too much brightness with this screen.

I have left all of the default settings and have been using a mix of 4G and Wi-Fi and I am currently at 30% 12h 49m since unplugging.
