The Official Battery Life Thread

Honestly, People won't realize what they missed out on. The Evo 3d as of today is the best android device on the market. The biggest feature that matters most is exactly where the evo 3d hurts most smartphones that's the battery. In real world testing how we all use our devices is what determines exactly what kind of battery life you will recieve so based on that it will always depend on the user him/herself. But if your a current evo 4g user then you know exactly how to tweak and extend your overall battery life and if you know those things and apply some of the techniques then trust me you will go VERY FAR WITH THE EVO 3D. I brought my evo 3d on friday from bestbuy the battery was at half when purchased I allowed the battery to drain down to 3% then placed it on charge for the first time for 9.5 hrs from 8pm to 5:30am saturday morning. My evo 3d was still going strong at 7pm saturday night without any tweaking of the devices at 7pm I was at 27% at which time I used the power saver mode and was able to go another 2hrs till 9pm which at that time I was at 17% I turned my device off and started my second phase of charging. The point here is pretty clear the Evo 3d straight out of the box without any tweaking of the settings gave me 14hrs of battery life till 7pm then an extra 2hrs till 9pm which was a grandtotal of 16plus hrs and was still at 17% when I turned it off. Bottomline here THIS IS DEFINATELY NO EVO 4G THIS DEVICE BLOWS THE EVO 4G OUT OF THE WATER IN THE MOST IMPORTANT CATAGORY AND THAT IS BATTERY LIFE. I was never able to go anywhere when I had my evo 4g without my 2batteries and charger now I dont have to carry my charger WHICH IS VERY BIG...As a Evo 3d owner If I tweaked my setting on my device even further ie..weather animations to some, screen brightness to halfway, email syncing to 4hrs, then this device will go FOR A VERY LONG TIME. Htc SCORES A MAJOR HOMERUN just based on the native battery management application/power saver mode as well as the native task manager application these native services on the device helps evo owners in so many ways because these are applications that would have been download from the android market that the manufracturer has included in the device which means it is optimized to work FAR BETTER THAN ANY APPLICATION DOWNLOADED TO YOUR DEVICE FROM THE ANDROID MARKET. That will help any EVO 3D OWNER WHO HAS THIS DEVICE plus with the opportunity to uninstall any carrier related applications that you might not want on your device that was installed which wasn't to many will not only gain more memory for your device which speeds up the device in general but being able to do this also allows you to place actual application you want on your device instead of having application that you don't use taking up space and cpu on your device that is truly big what sprint has done no other carrier is rolling like this. Another big point on this device is that every application can be sent to your micro sd card using the NATIVE APPLICATION where in setting you go to sdcard/phone and you will see a catagory that say make more space and there you will find a native apps to sd application WHICH IS ANOTHER APPLICATION ANDROID USERS WOULD'VE DOWNLOADED FROM THE ANDROID MARKET THAT IS OPTIMIZED FOR OUR DEVICE no need for apps2sd card now. And I'm not even going to discuss the speed, fluidity of the device, as well as the fast that this thing just BLOWS AWAY ANY DEVICE ON THE MARKET..Yeah if people didn't pick up one of these they just are lost....:):):):):):)

Great review Richardyarrell, you're temping me to trade in my Evo4g. Next time can you add a few paragraphs it would making reading this soo much easier!

I'm guessing you traded in your evo so you can't do bluetooth transfer? You can export your contacts to your sd card. Just go into people and press menu then export. I also think signing in to HTC sense gives you a backup feature.

I'll try doing that, time to do a hard reset because this battery life is TERRIBLE. Full charge, watched ONE 3 minute 3d video to show a friend and sent 7 text messages and the battery is down to 73% after about 2hrs. I just don't get it.

Oh yeah, I know I've been whining a lot in this thread but once the battery life thing gets figured out for me I'd give this phone a 10/10...I love this thing.

I took the battery down to 0%, full discharge, to the point where I could not get it to restart. Then began charging in wall socket and began my timer. Turned the phone back on after 10 minutes of charging. I decided to check the phone every 10 minutes after the 2 hour mark to see when I got green light. When I checked at 3 hours and 10 minutes green light was on and battery showed 100%. So approx a 3hr 10min charge time from 0>100% About 40 minutes faster than my epic 4g

My phone has been on for 2.5 hours and its already at 77% battery. I've been texting, browsing the web and I watched 20 minutes of the green hornet. Also I downloaded juice defender and its set to aggressive. Idk if this is good for the phone or not but is sure as hell is better than my pre-

Well, it looks like my battery life is awesome when I'm not doing anything. But the 4 or so texts i've sent, plus adjusting a few of the settings has drained my battery faster than it should. I dropped from 91-84 after texting 2 or 3 times. then I adjusted a couple settings, sent another text and I'm at 79. I hope the battery life improves after a few cycles...

I've given up on the battery life argument. If the phone had good battery life that's a plus if it doesn't then I know I'm going to have to charge it a lot more throughout the day and I'm fine with that. I would take great performance over battery life.

I couldn't agree more. I really don't see what the fuss is all about. If your constantly on the go, away from your home, or any type of electrical outlet for 12-14 hrs per day, then I guess I can see your arguement. However, most that are complaining about the battery life have little to no reason to do so at all.

Guys, can you help with something?

I'm new to the smartphone stuff, well not new really, had an original Droid for a few years back in the day and had the OG EVO for 2 weeks before trading it in on my 3D.

I'm trying to figure out this horrendous battery life, sitting there for 2hours with a few texts and maybe a quick 3d youtube video(to show off the phone to friends) brings the battery life under 80%. To me that's absolutely pathetic and not in line with most of the people here are posting.

Anyway, I have a few apps loaded(Advanced Task Killer, tapatalk, handcent messaging, SportsTap, Battery Life to name a few). It's almost an OCD with me to keep apps closed when they don't need to be open. I've noticed every few minutes EVERYTHING is running. When I mean everything I mean Youtube, Voicemail, Maps, Handcent, Google Search, Facebook, FourSquare to name a few. I'll kill them and then 5 minutes everything is back...I don't use half of this stuff on a regular basis...the only thing syncing to my knowledge is my comcast email, gmail and yahoo mail. Why are Maps, Facebook, Voicemail etc all running after a few minutes of killing them?

This is VERY frustrating...I love this phone but I'm getting tired of the battery draining 25% in like 2hrs...I'm sure it's user error so help me out lol

Re: Guys, can you help with something?

You do not need the Advance Task Killer. I use to be a big believer in that, but i have seen a big improvment in battery life without it actually. As far as the standard battery life, alot of us are noticing that the battery gets better after a few full charge and discharge cycles. I got about 7-8 hours yesterday with heavy usage. And i just did the calibration suggestions in the EVO 3D FAQ up in the stickies in this forum.

Also, check out the battery life thread here as well. Got some great tips and tricks through there.

Re: Guys, can you help with something?

I haven't noticed this. I know my Evo 3D had a task killer pre loaded. I've heard bad things about Advanced Task Killer with Gingerbread.

Re: How is the Battery Life on the 3d?

I have the Pre and got the HTC EVO 4g which I returned. Someone made a really good comment, what is the point of having a feature loaded phone when you have to turn everything off, hit home for me. I wasn't even getting a day of normal use. What is the feel for battery life on the EVO 3d?
Funny thing is, I remember that reading that quote too. I had the pre as well. But you know what did it for me? Not only that the EVO 4G was powerful, but that it was widely supported by apps as well. The casing was SOLID plastic. The pre also had a ****ty battery and didn't have all that app support to begin with and it was cheaply made and falling apart. So in my opinion, the lesser of two evils was the EVO 4G. I don't regret dumping the Pre for the EVO one bit.:p

Re: Guys, can you help with something?

Yeah, I was whining earlier in the battery life thread lol lol.

Maybe I'll ditch the add on.

Anyway as to why all of this crap is opening though?

Re: Guys, can you help with something?

Its still a wonderment to me why certian applications will open up even through you never use them yourself. It is just the way the android OS works i guess. It doesnt bother me any more myself. I have learned to deal with it.

Re: Guys, can you help with something?

You could try enabling power efficiency under settings/power. That turns off auto sync.

This is EXACTLY the post I was looking for!!! LoL I was thinking to myself "I wonder if anyone has timed how long it takes the battery to charge" You hit it right on the mark!!! THANKS!!:-$

It must be a Samsung thing because my Nexus S takes forever to charge to 100 percent.

I just put this one, guess ill wait and see how this does and see what kind of performance i can get out of it.

First off it may take a few cycles(from full to 5% or less ) before your battery actually reads right) If you are charging it when it @ say 50 % and have not let it get low you are messing up the readings...

also check out the tips in here I have a few regarding battery life....
