The Official Battery Life Thread

Weirdest thing. When I charge my phone it will get up to 99% and sit there for a long time. Eventually hit 100%. Now here is the weird part. If I let it sit plugged in over night it will read 98% in the am. So, it de-charges 2% if left on the charger. Strange or normal?

Pretty sure when you Charge over night once the phone is fully charged it stops charging to prevent overheating. I know my evo 4g did that also.

Is that supposed to go down as the battery charge % drops? Mine will drop well under 4000 as the batter drops.

Yes thats normal as well when my battery gets low again I will post that number so u know my full range

Awesome, please do. I'm just trying to rule out battery problems, the battery life has gotten better in the last few days so I think my phone might finally be OK.

Well, yesterday I went into settings/applications and unchecked the
"Start Automatically - Auto launch task manager at startup"

In the mornings I check mail, send a few texts, respond to emails as well and by the time I get to work at 9am my battery has usually dropped to below 80%

Today is the first day of no task manager running and at 10:30 I still have almost a full battery.

Its normal!!! It stops charging @ 100% even though it's still on the charger... Its a fail safe to prevent the battery from over charging

So does it stop de-charging once it hits 98%? Or would it continue to de-charge if left on the charger? Also, oddly enough, if it is de-charging down to prevent over charging at what point does the phone see it's not at 100% and charge back up to try and get full?

I have been noticing the past few days, my phone doesnt charge all the way to 100% before it says its full. The past 2 days, it stoped at 99%. This morning it was at 96%. I do the calibration trick to get it to the 100%, but has anyone figured out why it does this or what the fix is yet?

I believe it is just a software glitch, battery and percent widget not in sync. If you go to settings, about phone, battery you can see when all the bars are lit the phone is fully charged. That's what I go by. I'm sure a fix will be in a future updates.

Have you guys heard that a company called i believe muer or muher sells a bigger evo 3d battery that doesnt add size or weight to your phone that is 1800 mah.. has anyone purchased this battery? Also as of right now everytime im on fb or internet ect my percentage goes down 1 percent every 2-3 min of continual use.. is this alot? Also its good to hear that killing the task manager gives you improved battery life? anyone else try this...I guess if you want to kill something just do it manual...or can you use task manager manually..?

I use mugen extended battery on all my devices. No bulk added. I emailed them last week and they responded by saying that they have this device in hand and are working on the extended battery for it. That's what I am waiting for.

Well mugen i think already has one out if you do a search am i wrong and will this battery be any better than the stock one you think if per say its 1800 70 more than the stock one of 1730.. Sorry for caps my comp shift doesnt work lol...and is 1 percent for every 3 minutes used on the internet or application ect on the evo 3d is that a normal power consumption.. I see it goes down 1 percent every 2-3 min on phone calls way more and willing to try uncheckin auto task killer to see.. Ive been getting lately 8-9 hours for about moderate use which means about 40 percent use and 60 percent stand by.. On stand by i see it goes down maybe 1 percent for every 20 min or so...

I'll have to check, as of last week they did not have it out yet. I used one with my evo 4g and it was amazing. EDIT,, I AM AT WEBSITE right now and there is no extended battery for 3d yet. Mugans will most likely be a 1900

I lose about 8% on a 10 minute phone call, not good at all.

I've tried calibrating, I've tried turning a bunch of things off, and my battery life still sucks

Do you have a very poor signal? and also something is still probably not right @ that rate of drain....... UNLESS!!! You are talking about soon after you took the phone off of the charger... In that case you probable didn't have an accurate reading to begin with

Alright guys, here is my first Juice Plotter chart. (Battery life over time)

This is from yesterday with moderate use, 3D pictures and videos, GPS , auto screen brightness, etc. I wasn't able to test it on 4g as its not available here in San Diego.

Overall I'm very impressed with the performance vs battery life on the EVO 3D

Ok, so I've been getting good usage out of my battery. Somewhere between 10-12 hours a day. My gf bought an epic when I bought my 3d. She's been having problems with battery life and while in the sprint store today she noted that I get much better battery life with my 3d. The guy in the store said something along the lines of "well yeah, he gets better battery bc of his phone, but after a while he wont be seeing as good results bc of the screen and 3d"

Umm, did he mean if he uses the screen turned up and 3d he won't get good battery life or eventually the screen and 3d will wear down the longevity of the battery? Or is he just blowing smoke and has no idea what he's talking about?

I have the screen turned down to ~30% and don't use the 3d at all. So I'm assuming he made a general statement that if I use the screen turned up and if I use 3d that will wear the battery down (uh yeah that's pretty obvious). Bc to me, if he knew how I used the phone(noted above) that just by having the 3d feature (using it or not) wouldn't wear down the longevity of the battery.

Thoughts?

Yes using the 3D burns battery, fast! Think of it as turning on 2 lcds at max brightness and running the cpu @ max speed....

I would strongly advise the gf to go back and get the 3D instead... My wifes Epic battery is a joke!

Well I did a 15 min test ran gps ran navigation did updates downloaded and used internet n ran 4 g n lost about 4 to 5 percent battery is this bad n screen brightness is 60 percent

So it sounds like this guy was speaking in generalizations. Assuming that since I have the 3d I'd be using it a lot and if I'm not now and getting the good battery life that at some point in the future I would be, hence the "won't get as good battery life in the future".

I thought he meant regardless if I'm using 3d or not that the feature on the phone will wear down the battery so I won't see as long a life daily regardless if I'm using 3d or not.

edit:

I tried, but she uses her phone for work (real estate agent). So she wants an actual keyboard since she types on it a lot. She's coming from a blackberry. So, this was her best option of android and keyboard at sprint. Or at least the best option that she liked.

That's Sprint for ya! lol On launch day the guy in the Sprint store was asking me questions about the phone... And also a CS rep on the phone was asking me if he should buy the 3D or not lol.... gotta remember it's their job not their passion
