The Official Battery Life Thread

If you have not alrady done so, your battery drain will be reduced by:

Logging into Google Talk in your application, listed under Talk. Go to Settings and un check Automatic Sign On and then log off of Google Talk.

Use a Brightness Widget program called Brightness Level from the market. Allows you to have 0%, 25, 50, 75 and 100% for brightness at the click of the icon. The lower the better, then when outside, up it to 75 to 100%.

I keep GPS on, because unless you see the small GPS Icon in the task bar, it is actually not on and using battery. Also saves from having to manually turn it on each time I use Navigation or Google Maps.

Under Settings and Accounts, I have my HTC Sense and Hub set to manual sync.

I manually sync Weather and Stocks and News.

I get 18 to 24 hours on a single charge with medium use.

I have found that keeping screen brightness on auto uses no more or no less power then keeping it on 33 percent.

My battery life doesn't seem to be nearly as good as what other people are getting

Here's the breakdown for right now:

I'm at 20% after 6h 5m 3s on battery:

73% Display (1hr 34m time on)
12% Voice Calls (7m 53s)
6% cell standby
4% Phone Idle
3% Android OS
2% Facebook

Up time - 7:20
Awake time - 4:06

I have the display set to around 25 or 30% brightness, I have gmail and an exchange mail account set to push email, otherwise, everything is set to update once a day. I have all of the radios off other than 3G and GPS. I've mostly just been browsing the web, with some texting and some facebook chat. I use the stock task killer more or less everytime i finish using the phone.

Is this much drainage normal? It seems rather subpar compared to what other people are getting. Any thoughts?

I'm getting some serious life out of mine like off the charger for 3 days and still having a charge type of battery life. With my normal usage I still get well over a day and that's with a bit of game playing and google look up and some surfing.

The only things I leave off are my 4G and wireless. If I neeed to download anything of size I turn one or the other on.

Up time is time phone was turned on until current time. When nothing is running it goes into sleep mode to save battery higher this is when you aren't using the phone the better awake time is the time not spent sleeping

From a full charge plugged in overnight on AC adapter - instantly went down to 87% after unplugging
1 - 4G Off
2 - Wifi -disabled
3 - BT on
4 - 50 minutes of phone calls made on BT
5 - about 10 minutes of internet use
6 - No gaming
7 - 3 bars
8- two exchange accounts sync
9 - no pictures
10 -GPS disabled
11 - screen set for about 15% brightness - nearly all the way down.

9 hours before the battery completely died. Much worse than yesterday - same weather conditions as yesterday. Phone stayed in the same location as yesterday. As much as I like the phone I'll probably return it in about 3 weeks and get the SG SII when it makes it to Sprint.

Do I have a battery issue? I am getting about 2-4 hours on a full charge. I have to charge twice a day and at night. I am not using it much. No games. I have K-9 mail, but the system shows that to only use about 3% of the battery. 40% is the display. 16% is phone calls. I love the phone, but the battery life for my 3D is abysmal. Has anyone else had this problem and does a new battery help or is this a hardware problem and the phone needs to be exchanged? Most people are getting much better battery life than I am so I assume there is a problem with my phone.

You have a problem. Either your battery is bad order your phone is bad. Take it into a sprint store and tell them, they may just give you a new battery. If problem persists then you will know it's the phone itself.

Mine is bad - yours is wretched. I'd make sure that 4G is turned off, wifi is turned off, GPS is turned off, turn the brightness down and see how it works. I think the people who claime to get 3 days on the other hand have their phone in flight mode - I get about 8 hours on mine which sucks but not as much as your battery life does.

My battery life has been excellent. Much better than the Sensation. Today I used my phone pretty moderately. Few phone calls, wifi on all day, moderate browsing, heavy texting, auto screen brightness turned on, and 4G off and I still have 28% remaining. 14 hours and 18 mins so far. Pretty darn good if ya ask me. :D Loving me EVO 3D more and more each day.

first time off charger: 8pm to 6pm before charging at 7% battery, 22 hrs total, first 3.5 hrs were extremely heavy use, watching green hornet 3d, playing games(2D), downloading games and other apps, installing games/apps, wifi turned on for most of the time, 3g on, 4g off, bluetooth off, gps off, 4g off, screen brightness at 24%, 1 phone call, 100+ text messages, opened every app on the phone to make sure they worked, before reaching 64%, next 12 hours was standby(i was sleeping), and when i woke up the phone was at 50%, moderate use until 6pm, 100+ texts plus, gps used twice, lots of file transfers from computer, surfed the web a few times, downloaded NOVA 3D and asphalt 6 3D, installed both, played both, downloaded/installed a bunch of other apps and games, moved music from computer to phone, played music, again, 3g on, wifi on(only for downloading asphalt 6 and nova), gps off(except for the 2 times i used google maps), bt off, 4g off before FINALLY reaching 7% and finally deciding to charge it, juice defender was used(of course), but no calibration(yet)...

I guess I should have mentioned that 4G is off (not in my area anyway), wifi is off, GPS is off, and only 3G is on. Your 8 hours would be a welcome treat to my battery life today. It was on at 12:30pm and dead by 3:00pm. Checked emails using K-9 mail (the most it checks mail is one account every 30 minutes. Did about 15 minutes of web browsing. Sad. Even worse since I was coming from a Blackberry and it lasted all day with hundreds of emails a day and a little web browsing. I guess it will be back to the Sprint store to see if they can help.

I am also doing bad with battery. 4G off, WiFi off, Bluetooth off, 3g on, location off, screen auto. Off the charger at 8 am had to charge at 10:30 am either only 14% left charged on and off. Left the office at 5:00 pm and it is now 6:30 pm with 28% battery. At this rate it won't make it to bed time.

On my first initial full charge on my evo 3D,i got 10 hours and some change, and you know when u first got it you couldn't put it down, neither could i.Now,since i added juice defender ultimate, and use the built in task manager(not task killers from market) i get at least a day and half. LOVIN MY NEW EVO 3D:)

My battery life has been up and down. On moderate/heavy days, I only get 8-10 hours. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but what I have noticed is my battery drains very quickly sometimes. I don't know how fast the battery is supposed to drain, but it's definetely quicker than my OG Evo. I'm not using the juice defender or anything but I may have to try it. Should I do a hard reset to help regulate the battery drain?

8 to 10 hours heavy use is pretty outstanding lifetime for one of these devices. Lol. Don't think you need a hard reset. Once in a while it drains fast, well that may have alot to do with network signal.

Thanks zmann for your input. I'll leave things as is for now and maybe try juice defender to see if I can squeeze out a lil more battery life.

There's something wrong with your phone. Do you have a task killer running?

I'm getting around an average 15-20 hours with my use til it goes down to around 20 percent. Then I get nervous and plug it in, because, well, if it's on powersaver then there's not much use for the phone lol.

No task killer, I also have my email sync hourly. I pulled it off the charger at 7:15 am today did 15 of Pandora while on the train and right now have 66% left. I also removed auto from brightness and manually set it to 25%.
