The Official Blackberry Convert Thread

Anyone know how to shut off the notification light at night? Have searched the forums and can only find how to shut off the sounds (using 3rd party app). That flashing light is like living in a crime scene at night.

I got my phone today after ordering in store last week Wednesday.

I'm coming from 3/4 yrs of using different blackberry's on different networks.

I currently had a storm 1 which I didn't have much trouble with. I love my storm, but I always grow restless when I have a phone for more than a year. I just wanted a change. and I didn't want a storm 2 because it would be like the original I had. If I got another blackberry, I would be moving on the phone market. I can't go from a storm back to a curve. So I went with the Droid X.

I'm very excited, but I can't play with it until tomorrow:( when I activate it once my phone billing cycle ends.

I wonder how many people have made the exact same journey. This is my exact same path. 10 more days until I can order by DX and get rid of of this Storm 1 that I hate so much! If only my New Every 2 eligibility date worked off of when I ordered the POS... (I waited 2 weeks after launch to get my Storm). Hopefully the supply issues with the DX will be caught back up so that I don't have to wait long after ordering the DX.

You dont have to wait to order your x. Anyone that has an upgrade unitl dec 31 2010, can upgrade early to get either the Droid incredible or the Droid X.

same here. I was going to hold out for a storm 3, but when I say how lame OS6 looked, I made my mind up to bail out. BTW....my son wants to "blend" my storm. I am tempted, but I'll hang on to it just in case I need to use it as a backup! (hopefully not though.)

I did blend my Storm2, and my wife is mad at me.

I bought an Incredible, and am using my 8330 to get me by until it arrives. I just hope, that I won't want to blend the Incredible.

In all seriousness, I have been with BB for 6 years. The Storm solidified that I will not buy another RIM product for as long as I shall live. I did everything I could to NOT use my Storm because of how awful it was to surf, or dial phone numbers, or text, or write emails...

My hope is that I will simply not be disgusted by the DInc... as long as it isn't as big of a flustercuck as the Storm is, I'd be happy. If not, I will keep my 8330, and hope to refrain from blending it until something nicer comes along

I don't think you'll be disappointed dude. I myself have come from the first Tour (9630) and probably any Droid, including the Incredible, is leaps and bounds better than what it offered. My friend came from the Storm 1 to the Droid X and he absolutely loves it. Faster, better, stronger, and so much more you can do with it.

I had both the Storm1 and then Storm2. After having my DX for two weeks now, I would never go back to a BB. The android platform and apps are sweet. The only thing I wish my DX was better at would be exchange mail. I heard that Froyo has a better handling of it though. We shall see.

I used a Curve 8310 for a good 6 months before switching to the OG Bold for more than a year and a half. I loved that phone.

I got my Droid X yesterday. I seriously wondered why didn't I do this before. This thing is amazing. In less than one day I've found so many more uses for it than I did with my BB in all those months.

I love going through all the menus getting familiar with the phone/OS and looking for things to tweak.

I liked a lot of things about my Storm, but my biggest beef was that the keyboard was useless. It was too hard to type on, and it liked to insert periods (.) when I didn't go anywhere near them. That and after a while, the click-screen bit got old. Then there were the random reboots. Or the time I had to actually reload the OS on it because it ate itself (something I thought only Windows could do).

I love my DX. It's not perfect... it has some things about it I don't like, but Android is so popular that I know a lot of it will be addressed in time.

I'm coming from a BB -- the Tour 9630. I ordered my DX on 8/1 and JUST got it today. I have been using it for a little over 6 hours now and I am loving this thing. It just sails.

Droid X just rocks, doesn't it? The speed of the thing is what struck me at first, too (came from a Storm 2 - which I actually really liked). I knew coming from a BB that the Droid would be faster, I just didn't know it would be *this* much faster. Droids make BlackBerrys feel like they're are 2-3 generations behind. Check these forums often - People here have helped me resolve many issues I had during the switch.

I'm waiting (somewhat) patiently for my DX to come. I was one of those "My Storm does everything I need it to and more" people. But then it came time for an upgrade and, like so many others, I was not impressed with what RIM had to offer. So, I ordered an Incredible for my wife and an X for me. Crappy part is that her DInc showed up yesterday, and I haven't even recieved confirmation for my X :'(

Here's to hoping that mine ships before the 8/26 backorder date!

See the outdated torch release was it for me i lost my faith that rim was going to push at least one handset to consumers. I ordered my droid x on the 11th i have no clue when its gonna come though

Okay, here's my story (I may have posted it elsewhere):

I had a BB Tour, and was happy as a lark (even with the trackball). I purchased a Droid X on launch day (July 15). I had the DX for 15 days when two of the three speakers blew on it. I returned it and was informed no more Xs would be coming until towards the end of August. So I decided it was a sign for me to return to BB and this time I would get the Bold 9650. I had it for a week until the trackpad developed an issue of not responding and when it did, it would go all over the place. VZW swapped it out for a new Bold and I'm back to being happy until i got news VZW had pushed up the release of the Droid 2 (a day before my 30 days ran out for me to swap phones). I took this as a sign. So I took the Bold back to VZW (btw, they love me there) and explained I needed to swap the Bold for a Droid 2 as it has mobile hotspot. Unfortunately, there were no Droid 2s in stock. I would have to wait. So I waited a full day but not without playing with the Droid 2 the VZW store had on display. I liked the feel of it, albeit was smaller than the Droid X sitting next to it. I slid open the keyboard and found the keyboard not stellar but okay. The smaller screen allowed for only smaller virtual keyboards. I actually didnt like typing on the portrait keyboard at all. I put the Droid 2 down and picked up the Droid X. Hello old friend. Remember me? Our time together was way too short. Enter a sales associate and started talking about the DX. I smiled to myself because I probably knew more about it than he did but I let him give me his little speech.

Needless to say I took this as a sign from the phone gods. I'm back with the Droid X.

Reunited, and it never felt so good.

I am making the switch! - Never thought I would leave BB.

I have been with BB for three years and loved it. I even got several family members to go to BB. In those 3 yrs, I had the Pearl, Curve, and both Storms. I was really disappointed with the release of OS6 - and the hardware they put on the Torch. Not much to look forward to! - I was going to wait till the Storm3 came out anyway.

Stopped in at VZW just to look around..... started looking at the Android phones especially the DX. That night I ended up ordering it from the VZW website!

I'm still on the Storm2, but I am excited for the DX to arrive. Been reading through the forums to learn everything I can.
I think I will miss some things on the BB
- The Multicolor led for msg's
- BBM groups
- screen capture (I use it a lot)

So far, from what I have read, the Android platform has plenty to offer. Much more than what I can see coming down the road from RIM

If you root your X (http://forum.androidcentral.com/motorola-x-roms-hacks/28402-rooting-dummies-really-easy.html) there is an app called drocap2 that lets you take screen captures.

Welcome, your gonna love the DX. I also came from BB using both Storms.

With K-9 Mail, you can use different colors with the led (it's actually better than BB's). Haven't figured out if it can be done with other notifications (yet). Every time I think I found a shortcoming from BB, I find a way around it that's usually more useful & I haven't even rooted yet.

Also, I wouldn't worry about BBM too much. There are so many switching from BB's to Androids that many of your friends will be here soon. ;)

I became a Droid X convert this week. I had a Blackberry 8830, a Storm (which I hated - the screen kept freezing up) and a Tour (funky trackball behavior). I got the Droid X mainly for the big screen and I really like it. My son filled it with some great apps but I do miss BBM, particularly the feature of seeing when the message was delivered. Is there a compatible messaging app for Droid?

Take a look at Handcent SMS in the Market. It's free.
