The Phone Arena Review. 9.5 rating!

I found 32GB to be enough for my needs in the 2012 model and I don't see that changing for this one. But I don't have a whole lot of movies stored locally.

No external storage = Fail.

An OTG cable and a flash drive will give you plenty of storage (along with the Nexus Media Importer app). Keep all your movies on flash drives and suddenly 32GB sounds like more than you could possible use.

Did you get NMI working? I just posted a thread about this. My OTG cable doesn't appear to be working with this tablet, but I am getting a LED indicator that power is being delivered to it, so the tablet appears to be fine. What OTG cable are you using?

The Nexus has been sans microSD card since it's inception, yet people seem to harp on it non stop. It's almost as bad as someone ALWAYS starting a flame war about an apple product in an Android article. I love things about all the different devices out there. I just love tech and the Nexus is a fantastic piece of tech. There will never be a perfect end all device, but this will be my go to tablet for the time being... until the next one comes along and we can all listen to people ***** about that one too.

Why? I am surprised you still need it when you have the 'cloud' and can sync files across every device you have. I have the old 16GB and the new 16GB. I am yet to fill 70% of the space yet!

Nexus 7 is selling like hot cakes at the moment and I personally don't feel this is a problem anymore, not for Nexus but for any device! [Of course, for Samsung with a bloated OEM interface makes sense ;)]

Same here, but I also live and work in areas with good coverage and have unlimited data. My original 16GB N7 still has 4GB available so I purchased the new N7 in 16GB.

If you need more than 32GB in a 7 inch tablet you probably have some other real life issues you should be worry about.

9.5 rating? According to engadget this tablet has worse battery life then the original (by 2 hours)...

lol, Engadget must have a defective unit. I have both and I can certainly say that gen2 has better battery life, as demonstrated by the thread in this forum.

The device is quoted to have 1 hour MORE than gen 1 by Google. I haven't done a side by side comparison of both to get the exact data in my usage, but that sounds about right to me.

edit: I just read the review. It looks like their test was video at 50% brightness on both devices. That is understandable because the gen 2 model is much brighter than gen 1, so doing a % test is a false equivalency. I used to have my tablet at 100% at work because of the bright overhead lights, but with the 2013 model, I have it at 60%.

I have over 600 music CDs digitized. I only use WAV files, and do not like lossy codecs. I also have hours of HD 1080P home video of family gatherings and plethora of pictures.

Thanx for telling me Ibve got a problem, I'll check into a shrink clinic asap.
I have all of that also........in my laptop.

Why must I have it ALL THE TIME in my 7" tablet?

Just the music alone there is 420 GB, assuming 70 minute CDs (and the average 10 MB per minute for a .wav file). Add the video there and let's see -- you're complaining about a device not supporting external storage when the external storage you need is a 1 TB microSD card, something that at best will not be available for a loooong time.

You don't have to. Other people do.

If there was a similar spec tablet that had an sd card spot, I would have bought it instead. But there's not, so I'll make do until there is.

photos: I also keep all of my family photos on there (about 5 years worth atm). I use an app called photo resizer and I resize them all to take up less space. I honestly can't tell a difference on a 7" tablet once resized. I do it on a monthly basis to the previous month's pictures so I'm not overwhelmed with the process. I also back them up on DVD at the full size and put them in a fireproof safe.

videos: I keep all of my family videos on my tablet as well, but they are the short clips recorded with a phone, not 2 hours of Christmas morning.

music: I use Google Play music and pin all of it to my device. Sure, it isn't in WAV format, but I'm not an audiophile so it doesn't bother me. I even uploaded all of the stuff that I had on CD so I can manage them all in one place. It is a pretty sweet service imo.

My pics and videos take up at 1.5GB and my music takes up .5GB.

I have NMI working on the Nexus 10 and the Galaxy Nexus running 4.3. The Nexus 7 will be my wife's birthday present next month when the LTE version comes out. I am using this cable: Newegg.com - USB OTG Black Host Adapter Cable for Samsung Galaxy S1 S2 S3 Note 2

It is out of stock but you should be able to find it elsewhere.
