The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll own!

A Droid Eris? Seriously? No offense, but… wow. I thought *I* had it bad.

So yeah, I am really in want (not "need" because I can still make/receive texts and calls) of a new phone here. ... There are worse things in life than waiting for a new toy.
Ah, there's the difference: others may use it for business, so it's more of a need than a want and a tool rather than a toy.

I wouldn't describe my response to Verizon's latest CF as whining or freaking out but I am seriously annoyed and concerned.

I would never even consider using this POS Eris as a tool. If it were important enough where failure wasn't an option I'd have something reliable and fully functional.

And FTR, when I got this phone 22 months ago I knew nothing about phones. At that point I had never even sent a text. Hell, I'd have been happy with just a plain phone. But now that I've educated myself a bit and realized how much more these devices can be than just a phone I am highly interested in getting something I can really enjoy on multiple levels. The wait will be worth it to me as my demands aren't as high as many people.

"I hate Verizon, but my last phone will be the one they are pissing me off with!" Oh yeah that makes a lot of freaking sense.

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

I am sick and tired of this waiting game. One month later and we still don't have so much as a whisper from Verizon. First the 3rd, then the 7th, then the 11th, 18th, 21st, 28th, now the 8th?.

Just to be fair.. this is what Verizon last said:

10/21/2011

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless today announced that the Galaxy Nexus by Samsung, the world’s first smartphone running on Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to Verizon Wireless. The Galaxy Nexus will be available later this year in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and online at Verizon Wireless

All the other dates are rumors.

yeah and phil was one of the main reasons they all spread. I think they should wait a little longer before posting something only to close the thread an hour later because something changes.

Knowing Verizon, "Later this year" will be at 6:00 AM on January 1, 2012. They'll use astronomical year

I'm stuck on a family plan. I can't move the rest of my family, that isn't fair.

Dude he stated in everything he said they were just rumors. Blaming him is childish...

To the OP, honestly the only other Samsung phone I have had was the Fascinate, and besides the lack of updates the phone was great for me. Excellent screen and build, so I am really looking forward to the GNexus.

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

You have a lot of nerve buddy.

so because he posted something as rumor and it spread that is saying anything bad against him? I never said nor meant anything bad I was just stating a fact.

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

Phil said Verizon kept changing their minds. I trust him. Verizon is just run by a bunch of assholes. They don't care about releasing new technology- they just want to make a ton of money by any means necessary.

I hope that Google and Samsung learn their lesson and don't give Verizon another phone ever again... I hope AT&T staples Verizon's ass to its face next go around for the nexus. They don't deserve to get one. They're dogs.

All very true. Unfortunately, even the staff here are not above playing the rumor game. Look at the stunt Phil pulled. I think what Phil did was in very poor taste.

PHIL DIDN'T KNOW VERIZON WAS GOING TO DO THAT. IT'S NOT HIS FAULT.

Did you read the thread?

Verizon is just a , that's the problem, not Phil.

Phil shared some information with you from a very reliable source. This information changed so he updated his post. Blaming him or for every single rumored date and saying he pulled a "stunt" is extremely disrespectful.

P.S. - the correct method of communicating your dissatisfaction with Phil is via the contact us link.

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

I, for one, extremely appreciate it when people like Phil go out of their way to share information with us, and I have no doubt that they would only do so if the feel very confident about their information. Keeping that in mind, some things are out of their control. What Phil did was very gracious and all of us should appreciate him and the rest of the staff providing us with information, no matter the circumstances. That is one of the reasons why Android Central is great and why I will continue to come here for information now and in the future.

Thank you Phil.

It's disrespectful to compare the information that Phil provides us with to the horrible rumor threads that were popping up left and right.

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

There are more rumor threads, let's blame Verizon or Google or Samsung threads than there are theories on how JFK was killed.

So far, I have never read or heard of any actual release date from Verizon. But everyone is blaming Verizon. Could it be a software problem, or a hardware problem (now that the newest rumors say it can only be released with 16GB vs. 32GB)?

No, everyone is just blaming Verizon for all the problems.

I'm not a Verizon employee or a Verizon lover. I use their service since it is by no doubt the best service available for me where I live and where I travel. But, in my previous employment, before retirement, I did learn that rumor are just that rumors. Speculation and usually BS.

So, why doesn't everyone just chill out. The phone will be released...someday and then the complaints can start about how crappy the phone is, or the compliments will start about how great the phone is.

Personally, I cannot see why Verizon would hold up a phone; especially this phone. The Nexus will probably bring in a heck of a lot more NEW customers to Verizon than both the Razr and the Rezound combined. This is the phone that will make a heck of a lot of people to jump from the other carriers to Verzion. And this means a large number of new contracts, and not one of those new contracts will be grandfathered into the unlimited data plans.

So for Verizon, this phone could be a large win. BUT, it has to be smooth launch (I don't mean date), I mean in the way the phone works.

This is not a rumor, it is only a guess, but I'm betting that Verizon is making damn sure that Samsung has all the hardware working correctly and that it all interacts with the ICS operating system.

Just my thoughts from the desert. Now it is time to get back to cleaning my guns.....

Re: The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be the last Verizon Phone I'll

The worries I have had concerning these rumors (This is my first post here, hiya!)
- Bloatware: If there is any, then this is phone is not what I would consider a Nexus. I want updates when Google has made them ready and not when Verizon decides their apps work appropriately on them. Even if this is not the reason for not releasing alongside the UK, it may very well hold updates.
- Release Date: It seems as though even the people hounding others for believing rumors are using the term "WILL be here" on the 8th... which is just another rumor. This concerns me because I am also stuck with a malfunctioning Eris. You guys are right, Verizon has not given a date. I seem to recall officials saying, "later this year", but they've also said, "November". So what is to keep it from becoming "February"?
- Web-Only?: The first thing that seemed to really hit a note with me as concrete was this "w/o" crap specifying the 21st, which either meant week of or web-only. If it indeed meant web-only (and was fact), then the latest rumors of the 8th would not debunk it being web-only on the 21st. This is due to the memo specifying the 8th being specific to when it will be available within Verizon store locations. Could it possibly be web-only before that? Let's make it the most successful web sales day of Verizon's history!

I just want this thing around Thanksgiving so I can show it off to my sissy siblings who gab over their iPhones every time I am in town.

This was on Droid forums.take it for what you want.
Jfmk or something like that was the user name.

I was speaking with my spouse (a VZW employee today). He told me that he was approached by his district manager about his "Best Device" phone upgrade. Best Device is the upgrade program VZW employees get where their company phone is paid for (this is for corporate employees - not sure about if agents get to participate in best device). Every 45 days, employees can upgrade to the newest phones.

With the Best Device program, employees have access to the newest phones 1-2 weeks after launch, but almost never right at launch. The district manager asked my spouse if he was eligible to upgrade his Best Device soon, and he said yes. He said "good!" and then asked if he wanted to get the Galaxy Nexus as his next device. My spouse said "well yeah" and the DM said "Well, on December 1st employees will be eligible for Best Device upgrades to the Nexus." Using the knowledge that we have about the 1-2 week waiting time for Best Devices, it seems as if the Galaxy Nexus might still be on schedule to launch next week.

Further, my spouse has been the marketing (OMM) person in many of his previous (and current) corporate VZW stores. He took a look at the picture on Droid-life's website (the first one showing the December 8th launch date) that had reference to marketing materials and he started shaking his head. I asked why he was shaking his head and he said to me, "This is for agent locations, not corporate. Internal VZW systems for corporate are ALWAYS red and black, with some white, not the gray color you see here." He also told me the column that says "owner" which was blacked out was which agent/retailer owns the store (such as A Wirelss, Cellular One, etc.) - the individual agent companies. He specifically told me this is NOT a corporate communication. He then went on to suggest it may be that agents (as is sometimes the case in high profile launches) that agent/indirect may be getting the Nexus a few weeks after online/corporate.

Lastly, I showed him the old screenshot from many many days ago on Droid-life that shows the device launching "w/o November 21st" and he explained that in VZW marketing, "w/o" ALWAYS refers to "week of" - NOT web only.

Take all of this for what you want. I'm having him check OMM (VZW's internal, corporate marketing system) when he goes to work tomorrow, he's going to call me and see what he can find out. He's going to check call-out cards, which will give a launch date (if one is entered at this time) and the price that the phone will be at launch (pretty sure $299 given that we know it's going to have 32GB storage and a 4G radio).

So wait, a vz logo on the back instead of Google? Way to keep it classy vz. gee wilikers. Smh
