The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a random reboot problem and nobody knows why.

No reboots since I received my pre-order. Now after TMobile update today for red tint issue (which I didn't have) I had a reboot. Maybe a coincidence, who knows.

I had a random reboot for the first time today while typing a message into Textra. Had not had it before and have not had it since. It seemed like a one-off thing, so we'll see. I have a 200GB SanDisk microSD installed, not a 256GB.

Mine had a couple random reboots a few days ago. I haven't had any since. I've had a a bunch of apps updated since then too. It's possible it could be app related.

I just manually rebooted it because of update .had phone since 19th. It rebooted due to update 1 day later and update from today. That's only reboots it's had. Now, I don't have SD card installed. If these reboots are SD card related than it seems very much like a software problem. If it's as widespread as it seems I imagine Samsung will release a update for it before too long.

I just purchased a Samsung S8+ yesterday. All was fine until I took it off the charger this morning. Since 6am- 9:45am the phone has reboot at least 15 times (not exaggerating at all.) I have tried everything and what has seemed to have work (going on 45 minutes with no issues) is removing ALL APPLICATIONS from the SD card and placing these apps on the device itself. The only thing on the SD card is a few photos, but NO applications. This appears to be working. Also, it seems to be a software issue. Just thought I would share.
***UPDATE***
It has now been 2 1/2 hours since I moved ALL APPLICATIONS (not pics) from the SD card over to the device and I have had no issues. I strongly suspect the SD card is the culprit, but it is definitely software related. I should also mention I turned off ALL biometrics (face, IRIS and finger print) and just left the PIN active. Hope this helps

Maybe im selecting restart but im the habit of turning off my phone during work. I click on the turn off button. At least 3 times when I retrieve the phone it is back on.

This is strange, I believe the times it has turned on is when it turn it off from the lock screen vs the home screen.

My wife's S8+ rebooted twice last week and the same day I cleared her sd card formatted it and cleared the catch on her phone and it hasn't happened since. So far so good. Think I fixed it.

Got 2 S8 Plus with SD cards that I got on the 21st of last month.

Not having a problem since they did the DQA file upgrade.

Never had a boot loop Problem.

I can confirm that powering off the phone via the lock screen actually resets it. Maybe its all related or not but I will contact samsung about it. for now I'll just go in the home screen and power off from there

I'm using s SD card from my LG G4. I only store media on it. Over the last two days my phone has rebooted 5 times in s two hour period while using megacast pro to stream movies to my Chromecast. It tempted once or twice at other random times but it's probating when watching movies I'm casting to my TV. I'm going to reformat the card to be safe

I called AT&T because I've only had my phone a week I told her I wanted a new phone and she said they hook it to a machine and if it doesn't find a problem I have to pay a restock fee. If that happens tomorrow the cops might have to pull me out of there.

This sounds like a software issue. I have Samsung 256GB micro SD card I've had since I returned the Note 7 for the Edge last fall. No problems so far!

I do think this is a software issue though and an update is needed but might take a bit until they figure it out. At least with a software issue don't have to deal with recall again.

Seems like there still haven't been any resolution to this problem. Exactly the reason I returned mine incase it was a while before it was fixed.

Yeah, I have this problem now too. As soon as I received my 99$ Immersive bundle and installed my new samsung 256gb EVO card, the restarts began... and they are very annoying. They can happen during a call, in the middle of playing a game or listening to music... Part of me want to put all my **** back on my internal storage and remove the card, the other part of me loves having all the free space on internal and wants to hold out and be stubborn and wait for a fix.. I hope it's just a software patch and not a design oversight with the sd card tray. Also worth noting my card seems to keep unmounting and mounting, sometimes my apps that are installed on my sd card will look like a ghost sd card icon instead and wont launch, minutes later the right icons show up and the apps launch fine... seems as random as the restarts. I have sprint, midnight black s8+ made in china.

I have had my S8 since launch. I installed a 64gb SD card on day 1. No problems until today while driving (hooked to bluetooth). I looked down and it was rebooting. I am on Verizon. I noticed when I got home there was a software update due, so I did that. Fingers crossed it doesn't do it again.

Well it continued with the reboot problem after the update.

I tried a few things and now my phone has been over 20 hours without a reboot
First: I set my settings back to default by doing the following:

Find "Factory data reset"
• Slide your finger downwards starting from the top of the screen.
• Tap the settings icon.
• Tap General management.
• Tap Reset.
• Tap Factory data reset.

Restore factory default settings
• Tap RESET.
• Tap DELETE ALL. Wait a moment while the factory default settings are restored. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up your mobile phone and prepare it for use.

Second: I tried to remember what I had done with the phone the last couple of days that may have caused the problem. One thing I did was move a few programs over to the sd card. I went back and moved those back to the phone storage.

Third: I had also recently installed a program to print from my phone “Hammerhill Printer”. I deleted this app.

Not sure which of these made a difference, but like I said 20 hours without a reboot seems like I did something right? Anyway thought I would share.

its the apps installed on sd, put them back on internal and no reboots. ****ty though... rather have all my stuff on the sd card to save space for computing...

So now it's having bootloop issues like LG phones do?

Also it seems the Samsung micro SD cards always seem to be causing issues. I've seen post on here talking about their Samsung Micro SD cards dying on them.

A bootloop and a random reboot are different issues.
