Not unless you call them up and say "hey, i hacked my phone into giving me free hotspot, take that!"

But really no, even if you change roms, its changed in your PRL until you edit it again, you can flash as many roms, format, flash a stock RUU and it will still be there.

I've used this for over a year now and i've NEVER gotten charged for hotspot.
(Makes you wonder why they want to switch to Tiered data don't it?, because they can't do anything about it)

Longtime member of XDA here

believe it or not, its the same method Windows mobile 6.5 uses to get around hotspot/tethering charges.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did start putting some sort of sniffing mechanism in the kernel. The Froyo leak for the Fascinate apparently has one but they're not quite sure how it works. The method you're talking about is similar to how we use QPST to change the dun settings.

for 4G, i would assume it would be the same, but its possible they may have found a way to block or even track with LTE since LTE can broadcast more info back and forth, and we also have a SIM card to deal with.

I am NOT 100% certain,

so instead of it looking like this

"yournumber@vzw3g.com"

it would look like this

"yournumber@vzw4g.com"
"yournumber@dun-vzw4g.com"

it can't be that simple :)

Thanks NCX............I don't even have an android phone yet, but that is some great info. Oh, I will be getting the TB when it become available. Awesome!

EPST has always been unlocked on HTC phones, and HTC doesn't put that kind of stuff on there devices roms, puting something like that in a kernel that would be working 24/7 while the phone is on would massively drain the battery too,

Samsung will bend over backwards for Verizon if they have to.

I sure hope it is! Anything beyond that is beyond my technical abilities, seriously, I'm depressingly pathetic. I have two year old nephews and nieces that school me on the computer. Me working computers is like a blind guy with no hands, or feet, trying to read Braille. :'(

NCX, nice work as always. Love the gallery for the dinc at XDA.

On another note, I went in for another trip to the VZW store today to see if they would sell me the car mount for the tbolt. They would not (apparently some guy in another forum was able to). I talked to the sales lady about the Tbolt, she didn't have any information, but the weird thing was, she kept saying "HTC Droid Thunderbolt". Im guessing that she is just underinformed and mistaken, but do you think there is any way they will toss Droid branding on this bad boy?

My personal take is: No. Not with the Droid Bionic coming out "soon". It would not make sense for them to release this phone with the Droid branding as well. I am not sure of the lapses in time between the OG, Inc, X, OGTake2, and Pro, but I dont believe that they were this rapid in succession.

maybe you could turn 4g off and use a 3g mobile hotspot?

if it is, that would be awesome! but if not, i would be perfectly happy with 3G hotspot.

I tried to order the dock over the phone, I even helped the sales rep along, and she finally found it, but here's the kicker

She wasn't able to order it because it was showing ZERO in inventory, but when she went into her catalog she was able to order it but not complete the order because of the inventory being ZERO.

So she said, she knows whats going on, the inventory is set to ZERO so no one can sell it early before the release of the phone, she stated they have done this with past MAJOR launches, such as with the iPhone 4 this year.

I pointed out the only reason i couldn't get it in store was because i would not be able to use my discount and also having the employee discount forbids you from buying instore as well (yes thats the policy for us discount holders).

anywho, she kept trying and she said, well if the stores already have them, the stores shouldn't be able to sell them either if there system over the phone cannot let them sell them. It can only mean that the device is launching shortly and the only inventory locks that are unlocked are the ones in stores.
But she stated that even so they should not be sold before the device.

She was very friendly and didn't argue or give me lip like some other reps i've talked to in the past, so i believe what she told me, she was right about the model number and the price too.

She didn't have any info on the ThunderBolt itself though...

The Incredible got the "Droid" moniker at the release announcement. For the months leading up to it, it was simply the HTC Incredible. The OG Droid and Droid Eris released with in days of each other, and both were also branded as Droid. I would be surprised if it is not branded the Droid Thunderbolt at launch.

Will "hacking" the epst and doing this void your warranty?

I can tell you right now that the EVO 3D isn't what people are thinking it is

EVO3D - Optimus 3D with EVO branding for Sprint
EVO View - HTC Flyer for Sprint using a 10" version of the device
G2X - Optimus 2X for T-Mobile using the G branding

HTC Pyramid - Egypt + Pyramids = Stone Tablets
HTC Double Shot - Dual Core or a dual screen HTC phone

remember how both of those brands used to be used on the HTC phones?
doesn't seem to be the case this year

EVO and G brand is merely there version of the DROID moniker

CTIA might MIGHT have the Incredible coming to Verizon announcement, and then more waiting, (deja vu?)
