Does anyone know what the penalty is for leaving Verizon early?

What happens after your contract is up? Do you go month to month...day to day?

seriously...anyone know?

There is a pro-rated ETF if you're not out of contract. If your contract is up, you are month-to-month.

All I want to do is making a fairly educated decision on a reasonably good cell phone for the next two years. It shouldn’t have to be this complicated. At this point, how hard is it to say “this is the date”
Maybe I should lower the bar and just use my old flip phone….probably save me some cash too!

i've been more or less ignoring all the posts blaming apple, but then i had the thought, NO WAY would the iphone 5 release be handled this poorly. not a chance they'd hint towards a february release for that and then stay silent as the weeks passed with absolutely no official word. the guessing games are starting to get old :/ the 17th can't come soon enough

Is that because you're a glutton for punishment and disappointment? ;) No point getting your hopes up for another [still] rumored date.

These is an early termination fee that you have to pay if you end your contract early. Its based on the amount of time you have left on your contract. I have 13 months left on my original 2 year contract and my termination fee is $250

So what's the latest rumor/news for today? I didn't feel like reading through all those pages of posts.

Seriously people? What's with the doom and gloom that this phone isn't going to be released or it isn't coming out until summer, etc.?

We have people who've used the device and have talked about how excellent it is. VZW did say Q1 for this phone and we're still in Q1... although a LOT more communication from them would be appreciated.

I still think this will be an amazing device and that it will land in our hot little hands sometime in March. Let's rein in the hyperbole a bit and try to have a tiny bit of patience.

You must of missed the fact that Verizon said 2nd quarter yesterday....
You may begin letting out your hyperbole as needed!

Considering we don't know all of the circumstances behind the delays, it's plausible that it's impossible to set a date. If there is some underlying issue with 4G (or something else) that we've not heard about, it is certainly within Verizons best interest to not set a date for release. Again: the only people who know and are complaining are the enthusiasts, which are a tremendously small percentage of Verizons customers.

As much as it sounds like I'm defending Verizon, I'm really not. As I've said before, I too am less than pleased with the release thus far. Everyone just needs to stop viewing this situation from only the enthusiast/consumer side though and look at what Verizon is possibly dealing with to get this phone to the market.

How exactly are they gonna force you to pay the early termination fee if you have a STRONG reason against there way of business, yeah its in there disclaimer so what.

When i left AT&T they tried to slap a ETF on me, I ignored it for almost a year until they finally gave up, and it didn't affect my credit rating either.

Its BS that they can require your ETF to be that high, I know there was commotion on the interwebz about it when they first changed it to $350, up from $150, even the FCC and DOJ got involved, same as they did with the Phantom data fee.

Cool...I am up in June....I think I still want an HTC phone....I am just going to go smoothly and see what happens. If the bolt is not out on the 17th due to whatever or becomes a second quarter device...that is cool...I will just wait. If the Bolt is still the best thing out there by June...it is mine....if not..so long Verizon!

It isn't the continous delays that is pissing people off (although it isn't helping). It's the blatant lack of communication between Verizon and it's customers. I could care less what Verizon is doing to get the phone released if their not relaying the information to me. As much as I hate to say it, this would not be happening with the iPhone.

Doesnt the second.quarter start on march 18?? What if they sell it then

Good question....my plan has three tiers.

Tier 1: I have absolutely no self control and the actual time to run out on release day (or one or two days later) and see if I can get one for me and my wife.

Tier 2: If I have enough self control I wanted to wait a week or two and see if all is well with the phone. (I have a storm 1....my biggest concern is battery...jsut sayin!)

Tier 3...If I get to tier two and the phone drops on the 18th it will mid to late March....hopefully the phone will be everything we want...then the tough decsion will need to made....can I wait until June 4 when my contract is up? If I switch carriers I know it will not be LTE...but odds are it will be an even more smokin HTC monster...right?

VZW never said Q1

But you see, that's just it. The only people who care about or even know about the phone are us enthusiasts. The "general population" doesn't know what the Thunderbolt is and could not care any less about communications about it at this point. This is exactly the point that I'm trying to make. Verizon will see such a tiny loss of revenue from the enthusiasts who do in-fact "jump ship" that it's smarter for them to keep quite at this point, rather than release a statement saying they have things that are broken, which would stir up even more controversy with a larger audience.

And you're absolutely right, it wouldn't happen like this for the iPhone.

what I really am trying to say is the closer I get to my release date the more impactful the decision is to buy the bolt.

My mind was made up in Feb. We both were allowed to upgade, I had been following the phone for two months...I was like "Cool...gonna have killer new phone in the next month or so". So I don't know....

bottom line...if the phone comes out before April and it is all that we hope for it to be...I should be feeling good about purchasing it. If for some reason it is not...I am hoping I will at least pause and research what HTC will have out in June.

Also, I am forced to used the info I can get....and none of that is coming from Verizon whom I am paying 200 a month for to use a storm 1 and a maroon LG EnV
