There's a storm brewing...

so on the chance that we end up with tiered pricing (still hoping not) what plans would people be getting? i have an unlimited plan on my blackberry but i hardly use the data at all, only for the occasional google. i'm sure that would change if i had a tbolt and apps that used data, youtube, or google music/pandora. how much data might that use per month?

Careful here. I've had a storm 1 for over 2 years now. The *most* I've used has been under the 500MB level.

A week ago, my wife got a Droid 2 Global (she wanted a keyboard and required a data capable phone last weekend). In seven days, with light-moderate useage she's already at 180MB. I think most of this is "push" traffic I don't have on my BB.

From this I'm learning the lesson to not underestimate the amount of data needed.

Blackberry data is heavily compressed so Android will always use more. And how on earth have you lived with the storm for 2 years? I barely made it 11 months.

Some still have Storm 1. Well I had Storm 2 for 9 months :)

Geeze, getting up near 5000 posts in this thread, just like 150 more lol. This is great. Sometimes I feel silly being so excited about a new phone, but then I remember you guys are excited too and I feel a little bit more normal. :p

I say unlimited 3G=$30: unlimited 4G=$40: unlimited 5G=$50, and unlimited Bieber 6G fever=$60

I would gladly pay those rates and I think that is the most reasonable. I mean who wants to have to monitor their usage? Especially with these phones that are designed around having access to a decent amount of data.

I'd like to see unlimited data...Bob only knows what the price would be though. I'll wait and see...and pay...and pay...and pay...

Wait...didn't Ben5 say it's always quietest before the storm? Wait...no...noooooooo!!!! He was talking about the Storm 3!! We've all been had!!

Once we get 4G speed, most of us will have an increased data usage ... we will be indulging in more streaming media which will spike our data usage considerably. 5GB data cap? That would be scary as we could reach that cap in half a month .. but of course if we discipline ourselves, we can keep ourselves within the data cap. But I feel that beats the whole purpose of having 4G.

A few questions: I have not used other "4G" phones on other carriers so I don't know this. While in a 4G area, we can still toggle back to 3G and use 3G data speed only right? Will that help bring down our data usage? Do GPS navigators with downloadable maps use much data (as opposed to apps like Google Nav)?

No cap. Period. End of line.

No Cap On Unlimited Data, Sprint Confirms | CoolTechZone.com

Signal is just fine where I am.

I'm not going to get raped by Verizon. No sir. No way.

Thanks, this is good to know as I weigh my options....

Edit....there is no cap, but the article does state that the carrier will "throttle" the user's experience. If I decide not go with the bolt...and if I look at sprint, I will look to see how the "throttle" impacts users.

what exactly is does it mean to throttle somebody's data?

If I'm correct, it means they're going to control the upload and download speeds...probably to just above 3G so you think you're getting your money's worth when in all reality you're not.
