Thoughts on the January update?

Not all people are in the position to sell and take a big hit on a phone. Pixels are not noted to retain their prices, and might be tough to sell with all the bugs being noted and more importantly, a lot of these bugs are noted by google; having held off their January update till the end of the month because they need time to work on the bugs.

With a statement like this from Google:
"The Pixel team paused the December software update to Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro devices after some users reported calls were dropping or disconnecting. We have now identified a fix that will roll out in a software update by late January. This update will also include all the fixes and improvements that were originally planned in December."

It might just make others shy away....one example is me!

Some may just want to have hope that the bugs they are having will be taken care of by Google because they like the phone but are having problems and giving Google just one more chance.

It will be interesting to sit here and read if the fixes are fixed. And I will be doing that and keeping an open mind.
But then name a phone maker that has not had issues. They all have had issues at some point

Would you have rather google ignored the issues and pushed out the update?

I think they did the right thing for their customers. They admitted fault and halted the updates to get it all sorted.

There are a ton of choices in the Android space and also the iphone to consider.

Hope you find something without issues and fits your needs.

I'm not just referring to bugs the reason why tring to sell the phone , this goes before December update , some don't like picture quality, fingerprint scanner , battery not lasting long . Most have a 14 day window to return the device or take a loss and sell if past that. As mentioned bugs happen across Andriod Manufacturers just like this , it happens, you can try roll back to previous version . Yes I would take the loss if I wasn't happy and that goes for any product. Then you have users are not effected by the bug like me and few others on December. I definitely like to see them address this as soon as possible and it does suck you have to wait until the end of January but have to wait and see and I believe majority are going be taken care of especially cellular bug .

People can only hope all is fixed and I believe those people also work for google as well as have a google phone.

If one of my sales via google had gone through, I would have already sent the phone back and sold and gone back to the 4XL. And wait till the S22 comes out and read the "user" reviews; not the feature reviews that come out the minute the phones his the racks.

However, I was at the point where if the software fixes the problems, I would immediately reconsider the Pixel 6P; however, someone on one of the posts here brought out a very good comment....is the hardware on this phone and the build as good as on Samsung's or other manufactures? Just something else to think about for me. And that is something that cannot be determined by the end of January.
However, from the standpoint of someone who "really" likes the looks of the Pixel 6P, really likes the Pixel UI, really wants to remain with a Pixel phone, and can easily afford it; even if it is a lemon and I lose on a sale, I keep hoping....

We'll see.

I HAVE NEVER IMPLIED ONLY GOOGLE IS HAVING PROBLEMS If I did, please point it out in that post you quoted!

I was addressing the issue of some may not want to take a financial hit on a bad phone or cannot afford a financial hit.

And addressing all the implications by a few (not you) but there are a few on here that jump in and comment about how great their phone is to the point they appear to believe those complaining are liars, and yet, Google has issued statements of the fact of the bugs.

However, how many other companies have admitted to the problems but kept pushing the fixes out further and further? And will the fix come the end of January or be pushed out further? Time will tell on this question. (Be very interesting to come back to this in Feb if the fixes don't work.)

I understand there are Pixel fanboys and fangirls here who would support google even if their phone blew up in their hands and they lost two fingers. I really like my pixel 4XL; I believe it is the best phone I have ever had. But if it had had half the problems this one has shown for many people (not all), then I can guarantee I would not be on this forum looking at what's happening in the world of Pixels. Since the 4XL would have become target practice two years ago behind my house.

And yes, there are other phones, and yes, I am looking as well as still looking at the P6P. S22Ultra, OnePlus 10, Sony 1 III; to name three.

And love the sarcasm in the last sentence. Be honest, you do not give a rat's rear end about me and whether or not I find a phone with or without a problem. And that is great.

I'm done. No more comments on the Pixel forums till the update has been released and then to see if the fixes work, or the fixes screw up more things. I hope the fixes work! I hope everyone is happy as a fly on ****..

wow...I could use caps too but it really serves no purpose.

Maybe you could show me where I said you said only google had problems? Because I didn't.

Listen...I am not going to get into a huge back and forth with you.
All i am saying to you...and to others who have taken a huge issue with the December and January updates being late.
What are you missing? Google was very upfront about the issues and the reasons for the updates being late.
What would you have them do?

Then not sure why you are being so negative and aggressive.....I have not called you or anyone else a liar. Not sure why you have made things so personal
I don't have a dog in this hunt....heck my daily driver is a 13 pro max. Right now I have a S21 Ultra, P6 Pro and my 13 PM.
I probably use the 13 PM 60% of the time and the P6 pro and s21U the rest of the time.

Then...I was not being sarcastic.....I really do hope you find a phone that fits your needs.
I am curious about the OnePlus 10...I hope their partnership with Hasselblad bears fruit for them.

Oh and the 4XL was a great phone! I loved the face unlock and wished they had included it in this years Pixel models.
Maybe next year.

Ive had the pixel since 2xl,3xl,3A,4xl,5,6pro they all had their fair share of delays and problems , hopefully see you on board at some point

Yeah still have my 4xl the face recognition on par with Apples, wished they continued that .

A glitch in one month's security update does not make a pattern. Also, keep in mind that Google continues to update its budget "a" line monthly as well, while Samsung only guarantees monthly updates for its flagships.

All of the updates have been glitchy, if you are unlocked, on Verizon. I am still on 0.36. Forget the December update, I never even got 0.37. Two full updates behind.

Google has really, REALLY screwed up the updates this time.

Fortunately, I have encountered very few bugs if any on T-Mobile. Fingers crossed.

Im unlocked on TMobile , no bugs to report on December i sideload , i think battery might not be as good as November but not crazy difference.

I expected a few hiccups on this phone... I just think we need to chill and let it sort out.. Let's get away from focus on the update..it's all I hear I didn't buy this phone not to get updates.. I hear you but they are trying to get this fixed.. It happened and will probably happen on another future phone.. Once Google says okay we rolled it out with connections fix and all latest and if then months coming up we have issues the we action accordingly.. If I had a connection issue I would not hesitate to reset roll back to first build where it was good.. I mean we set up new a few months ago.. Another new set up although peeps hesitate would not hurt till fixed.. It's frustrating indeed I agree... But crap happens.. If you didn't bail out on initial set up you must've seen plenty you liked bc I know if I don't like days 1-10 I'm returning.. No question asked.. I've done that on previous phone then followed the forums... Jumped back on 8 months later.. Again I feel the pain.. I want everyone to have a good experience.... Hopefully we all get there...

You said you're dealing with a bunch of UI glitches. Can you specify? Do these glitches make the phone unusable?

I have UI glitches as well, but I can't say a bunch. The ones that really annoy me are when I put my pixel in my pocket and then after awhile I go to take it out and the screen will not wake up unless I hit the power button. The next has to do with the FPS. Sometimes it just freezes and still does not respond, then a second later (lag) it responds. And, lastly, the adaptive brightness is too sensitive and that's not an Android 12 thing. It's a pixel 6 thing. I have no issues like this on my pixel 4xl either before or after the Android 12 December update! Those are my 3. It's not a bunch and the phone is still joyful to use! I do admit that we aren't patient for anything any more in society (thanks Amazon) and that's why these lack of updates seem so infuriating to many people. Be patient! I still rather have this phone than any other Android device despite its shortfalls.

I have a bunch of glitches.

1. Keyboard glitch where sometimes it won't pop up, and other times it pops up but the screen won't adjust to see what I'm typing.

2. Random complete freezing of the UI. The whole phone just locks up. It goes away if I lock it. I think it's the launcher freezing for whatever reason

3. Messages glitch where bubbled conversations load in halfway, and the only way to fix it is to close it and reopen it. I think that also has to do with the keyboard glitch.

4. Touches not registering. This is probably the most infuriating glitch. I'll click something and nothing happens. So let's say I'm in the YouTube app, I click on a video, nothing happens. I'll click on it maybe 5 more times, nothing. So if I go back to the home screen then back into the app, however many times I clicked on the video it will load. It does the same thing now on chrome, in messages, Instagram, FB. It's only getting worse.

5. Running hot. Just using chrome my phone runs hot. Charging my phone runs hot.

6. Adaptive brightness is all over the place.

7. Pocket dialing, and random pocket screen touches.

8. I had random connection issues in Nov, however it's fine now. I think the carrier services update fixed it.

It's a lot of little things, however it's starting to add up to a very frustrating experience. This is the worst Google phone I've ever used. The Galaxy Nexus was more stable than the pixel 6.

The 4xl face recognition was actually really good. I think I still preferred the fingerprint scanner on the back of the 3, but I would've been perfectly happy if they continued using face unlock. The last iPhone I had was the 11 and it was easily on par with that.

Yup agreed

Rather than waiting for my Pixel 6 Jan update I reverted to my Pixel 5A.
My 5A is not updating to Jan update either.
This is strange due to my normal update is on 5th on month.
Yes, I could flash it but if Google isn't pushing it out I'm wary.
So, still on Dec update with my 5a.
No issues currently.

That seems odd to me.

My Other Half has a pixel 5a which updated flawlessly to the January 2022 patch.

8 Play Store App updates this morning. That's the most updates in weeks.
