Thunderbolt - Best Buy Availability/Pricing/Ordering Discussion

Well I just talked to my bb and they told me $249 : ( I have a feeling that whoever told you $199 is wrong. There hasn't been anything floating around to support the $199 price.

I mentioned $199. I am taking local Best Buy guy's word for it. So I don't have any hard proof. He did say that the $50 deposit can be used towards $199.

I am not going to BB because they won't honer $100 NE2.

Oh they don't? Ok, I'm going to VZW too then.

Hmm, maybe VZW made bb an exclusive dealer for the first few weeks so that we couldn't use our LAST NE2s!

Even if Best Buy wasn't exclusive, you can't do NE2 at third party retailers. So you should be going to VZ that day anyways if you want your discount.

I think at this point, all Best Buy stores are going to say the same thing based on the communication that went out (screenshot on Android Central homepage). That was clearly an internal communication intended for their mobile associates.

It is somewhat reassuring that they posted that date. One would expect if VZW was going to put the kabosh on it that potential date, they would have told Best Buy to go with a different date.

Agreed.....and i dont care if BB gets it before VZW or not.....ill get it wherever....and ill be there tomorrow

How does canceling a Best Buy pre-order work?

If it is available for pre-order tomorrow from BBY only, and not from Verizon, I will probably go ahead and pre-order two. But if it is available from Verizon, I would prefer to order from them, If I canceled the BBY pre-order, is the $50x2 gone or refunded?

Thanks,
Q

Why are you all going to preorder the day of though. We know the phone isn't going to come before 12th at the earliest. Why not wait for your preorder for at the earliest Monday through Wednesday?

i wish you made sense

You don't "cancel" it but you have a $50 giftcard now.

I'm pretty much saying what is the rush of preordering it tomorrow at BB. It's not the only day for the preorder. Why not wait until after the Super Bowl a day or two and at least see if any more concrete information comes from Verizon. This will allow you, if you must have a 1 year contract and must have the phone on release, to know if you can at least get it from Verizon on a preorder or same day BB releases.

Well... that sucks. Not a HUGE deal as I can always find something else to buy there, but I might just wait and see if Verizon says anything about the TBolt before pre-ordering from BB.

Why wait?

The reason to preorder on the first day is just incase the pre-order allocation is exhausted before you pre order. For the iPhone, preorders started on 2/3 and also ended on 2/3 since the allocation was fully used. You can no longer pre-order the iPhone.

I don't expect the TB to be anywhere near as popular as the iPhone, so this may not be an issue, but I also don't expect Verizon to allocate as many TB's for pre-order as they did for the iPhone. So, it depends on how well I think Verizon can forecast TB sales. If they ordered too many from HTC, then they will go on sale quickly, if they didn't order enough, then they will be unavailable for some time.

I gage the risk of missing out on a sale as signifigantly less than the risk of missing out on the first batch.

I agree with the concern, at least one day isn't going to hurt until Super Bowl is through.

My local Best Buy told me that I was the first guy to even ask him about the Thunderbolt, so I'm not too worried about not getting in on the preorder allocation. That being said, I'm still dropping money on it tomorrow :)

Preorders have officially started.

Well, it's official now. Preorders have just opened up at Best Buy, so I know a bunch of us will head over to Best Buy at some point today and lay down $50. However, I will be waiting to see the official final price of the T-bolt before I lay down anything. :( Sad as that is, preorders are still going on so hop to it! Check the Best Buy circular for the ad.

Hmmm, so they're offering people the option to "hold" a phone for a mere $50 but they aren't publishing an actual price ... so if you plunk down $50 and find out the actual price would break your wallet, do ya get your $50 back? I don't like those odds ... I'll wait until the phone's officially for sale in the store complete with actual price tag.
