Thunderbolt - Best Buy Availability/Pricing/Ordering Discussion

My BB store actually had a Thunderbolt display. It was complete with price, pictures of the phone. It even had a spot for a dummy phone, which they didn't have. It was located next to some other phones that were actually in stock.

Thunderbolt Postponed Indefinately...
I talked to a Best Buy representative today, and she let me in on some very interesting news. She was told that everything was go for a launch on the Thunderbolt, but received an e-mail today stating that the Thunderbolt would be postponed INDEFINATELY due to Skype Mobile issues. Thunderbolt, as she stated, was suppose to be the first Skype Mobile device to work with video and all, and it's not at that level yet. They postponed the release to work out the kinks. I was floored...but she graciously informed me that she only had two Xoom preorders left.
Lol. So guys and gals...whatcha think? Has anyone else heard the same?

Color me surprised. I think the people holding out for a 24/28 release might be in for a shock. It's not looking great now.
I for one don't give a care about skype, and even then it can be fixed with a OTA update. Of course VZW wouldn't want to launch the phone without it though.

ugh. why add to this madness. best buy employees are talkin out there asses. (no offense to any bby employees on here) we have seen the document saying skype will not launch with the tbolt. the bolt hasnt been delayed as there hasnt been a release date. the only rumor of why the phone isnt out is because of a lte issue with the phone. and we dont no if thats true.

I jumped ship. It's almost March and if I've waited this long for it, and still no word, I've convinced myself to wait for the "bigger and badder" phones that 2011 has got in store. Dual-core is the new and upcoming thing so I'm going to wait it out for a new monster Android phone. (Yes, I already know the whole "dual-core won't be supported when it comes out" deal so don't quote me and reply with that bull-crap). I'm going to play the waiting game some more and see what happens.
Phone would still work without Skype...Qik (owned by Skype) could work as a fill in until Skype was ready like it does on the Evo. However, if the network wasn't working with the TB, well, that could be a problem.
Ok this is getting out of hand...I mean even more so that it has been if that's even possible. I'm gonna call shenanigans on this unless one of our fellow BB employees can speak up and state their store received the same memo. Skype is extremely unlikely as it can be resolved OAT as soon as you boot the phone for the first time. More than likely they're having LTE network issues because if phones are already sitting in stockrooms and they are running commercials and ads like mad there can only be so many things to point at for a delay at this point.

Our corporate account executive stopped by our office today so I had to ask him. He said "it was supposed to come out Thursday buy was pushed back to the end of the month." I said "this month?" and he said yes, the very end. I take that as Monday. Who knows.

Good catch there Ed, I guess that 4 hours of total sleep yesterday is catching up. But while we're talking about Oats, barley and or wheat, I did brew up a hopeful batch of homebrew yesterday which contributed to the sleep deprivation

Can someone tell me how my Pre-Order at BBY is going to work? I pre ordered that first Sunday they announced it, approx at noon so I'm assuming I waswithin 50 people at the most by that time to have pre-ordered.
If they got say 100 units and had 75 pre-orders (for example) do they only sell the 25 and keep the other 75 behind the counter locked away for the pre-order people? How does that all work, do we have like 24hrs to pick it up or something?

I would sure expect them to fill all preorders before selling the to non-preorder customers.
