Thunderbolt - Best Buy Availability/Pricing/Ordering Discussion

So, I've got a theory...

Why are we hearing the delay is hardware related from some sources and i*hone related from others? The truth is the truth. There is only one. Why is Best Buy corporate insisting on the 14th as late as this morning? MAYBE there is some misdirection going on here by VZW... Perhaps the phone IS available on the 14th, but it drops with no fanfare. This would not be without precedent (see Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global... they just showed up one day) This keeps huge "Thunderbolt 4G" posters from posssibly swaying i*hone customers. This also appeases the Android masses.

After the i*hone hype dies down, they go on an all-out Thunderbolt advertising blitz.

I just got off the phone with the 3 closest Best Buy's in my area. All said they WILL NOT have it on the 14th as Verizon has OFFICIALLY told them the release and ship date is pushed back.

I love how it took them almost a week to get an official word from VZW about the delay! Again great communication from a communications co.

My local BB thinks that no one besides BB will sell this phone either despite Amazon, Wirefly, etc. showing otherwise. Heck, they even think that VZW corp won't be selling it so that tells you how much those guys know.

A friend that works at a VZW store said the BBM guys know about as much about the phones as a guy at stock employee at Walmart.

They're all at the mercy of VZW Corporate. Including the stores. Would they be a little more knowledgeable and plugged in? One would hope so. But apparently there is no info to know because there have been no leaks and nothing announced. VZW is playing it pretty close to the chest.

Haha yeah after asking about the Thunderbolt I asked them about the Atrix release date. Heres the convo:

BB: We don't know when we're getting the Thunderbolt call back tomorrow so we can tell you we still don't know.

Me: Ok sweet. What about the Motorola Atrix, any idea when you'll be getting that?

BB: The Matrix?

Me: No, ATRIX.

BB: Oh! We have that in stock!

Me: REALLY!? I didn't think that was coming out til early March! I'm coming now!

BB: Oh wait... yeah I don't know when we're getting that.

Me: You son of a *****.

iPhone 14 day return window

Interesting theory here.. says the Thunderbolt may be delayed until the 24th to prevent some iPhone users from returning their phones.

I was buying a Iphone for my wife today at Verizon, first thing. I spoke with the Manager and Network Specialist and they both were said, that phone is a few months out. Reallllllly wanted me to buy the Iphone. As I was leaving I asked again saying, "are you sure you havent heard anything about it?" they both smiled as if to say, yes but we aren't telling you! How about another Iphone?

I really can't see it being a few months out. I doubt Best Buy would be taking pre-orders for a device if it was that far out. I think they are just saying that to get you to buy an iPhone.

Honestly, the only way that's true is if BBM really has true exclusivity for a few weeks or months at first.

Well with the release date confirmed as the 24th I am going to cancel my preorder and go get a droid X from VZW tomorrow and trade it for the TB on the last day of my return window. Cannot stand this ATT garbage any longer!

there is no way in hell its two months out, unless VZW is trying to though BB under the buss this time... think they thought they could sell one more of those plastic and silicon bricks they iPhones.

I called Best Buy and the wireless guy said it was still going to be released on the 14th. I hope he is right. The sad part is he said we have iPhones left if I wanted to come and look at those. I said o is it 4g LTE. Did they come out with a 40 gig. Does it do voice and data at the same time. Did they change the screen size. I don't remember the rest of my questions and he said I guess that's a no. Then I stated I already have a Droid x that will run circles over the iPhone. I happen to live in a area that has LTE or I would not use my upgrade.

I think they should close the pre order the people that did pre order it should get the phone on the 14 then they can do a full release after the 15 refund period for the iPhone. If pre ordered a thunderbolt you really don't care about a iPhone.

Verizon does not seem to want to say a word about this phone. At this point I think we should all buy the atrix on At&t with our bb gift cards when it comes out.

Well, my original goal was to wait a couple of weeks after the launch for the simple reason that I wanted to hear from people about the Thunderbolt...my biggest concerns is that it is basically an EVO 4 G wih some slight changes...and a half crap battery. I know about the 4G LTE...but I have to tell you, you should go over the the Android Central Evo site...half of these people turn off the 4G so they can make it through the morning without the battery killing the phone. So I was going to wait for some of your droid "expertise" before diving in. Who knows...I did not pre-order...maybe it would be a couple of weeks after launch if there is a wait for the bolt....anyway...I guess what I am saying is that while I really do not want an I-phone..I am willing to wait until April/May if I can skip to a dual core HTC...or some other sweetness!
