Today is the 18th. WHERE'S MY FROYO!!!

I think I'm getting more fustrated with the all the rumors than not actually having the update. They are most likely still testing it which is good cause the less bugs, the better. I'm still able to enjoy my phone (which I find more addicting by the day) and the update will just be an added bonus for me.

All what other phones? The Nexus One and rumors of a Droid roll out that I have yet to see. However I know rooted users on the EVO, Incredible, X etc that all are happily running 2.2

How many people with a Droid X do you know have FroYo?

Root already people. I am pretty ignorant on this stuff....but unrevoked makes it so easy, and then after that its as easy as installing apps from the market.

Rooting isn't that hard people. If / when the 18th comes and goes, then do it. I am enjoying my phone about 2x since root.

Another site is suggesting the rollout begins tonight to small amounts and will hit full force by August 18th.

Oh, the intrigue of rumors!

Sounds like the WebOS rollout process. They give a date to start updates and an end date where "All phones will have automatically updated" so that the handsets will update over the course of a couple weeks and ease the strain on the network. Of course they still get 90% of handsets updated in the first day anyways from users forcing it.

Fingers crossed for tonight, no biggie if its the 18th. 5 days is to big deal if it doesn't have issues like the halted droid update.

Actually there are very good reasons we want our Froyo:

1) Fully implemented handsfree dialing (FINALLY!)

2) Speed - much better VM

3) Better memory management

4) Battery life (hopefully)

Froyo is nice, but its not like its some revolutionary update that's going to be like a new phone. I'm running it now and I don't see what all the hype is about.

For many who have issues that this update will fix, this update is like buying a new phone.

Also, the new voice to text, bluetooth dialing, 2-5x faster speeds, and FLASH also make it like getting a new phone.

IMHO

Not sure about how much or what you do on your phone but the battery life and speed or running multiple things at the same time is MUCH improved. I'm really liking Froyo. Now if I could find an O/C kernel my phone could run stable!

Been a DI owner for about a month now (ordered it same day my wife picked-up an LG Ally, and I had to wait a month for my phone.) Very happy with the phone, and I've come to really enjoy the AC site/community.

Been a VZW customer for many years, so am familiar with their update timing (not that I enjoy it.)
Funny though how an Android site (newer technology) can make me feel my age...All the repeated "it's coming soon" rumoring has become rather excessive - so bad that it actually made an REO song pop into my head this morning - "I heard it from a friend, who heard it from a friend, who heard it from a another...."
Thanks a lot, I'm doomed to be stuck humming this all day now. ;-)

Looking forward to the update when it finally surfaces. Can anyone with the knowledge explain, in simple terms, how this update improves battery life?

Re: Froyo coming on August 18th

There are no known confirmations that the battery life will actually be fixed. There are however known battery issues with the phone that will hopefully he fixed that comes along with the froyo update. Htc is pushing updates of their own so hopefully that helps. The just in time update will hopefully look to improve all phones battery life along with performance since the processor CPU will he running a little more efficient. Don't get your hopes up. I am guessing the battery life if improved is going to be very minimal

Until I see the pdf from verizon detailing the software update I cannot believe any of these rumors. Seriously.
