Too many choices (X vs. Fascinate vs. Epic 4G)

It's frightening to think about not being able to flash whatever rom we want to the phone. I'll probably get the X, but if it's not rooted within 30 days I may return it. I'd hate to be kept from using Gingerbread or Android 3 simply due to Motorola not wanting to update.

I don't think they would be holding back any updates, it would just be that there wouldn't be custom ROMs, but they would update software just like all the other carriers.

I tend to live on the bleeding edge.

I too had a droid back in December. Wanted the N1 but it never found its way to verizon.

Once details of the INC were released I quickly decided to sell my Droid on ebay. I was able to pocket $370 after the sale. I reinvested $330(tax) of the $370 into the purchase of Incredible. I recieved the MIR and deposited the $100 rebate into my account. So basically I profited $140 from the sale of the Droid and to go to the INC.

I have now sold my INC on ebay for $500. I plan on using the proceeds to purchase my next device(X or Facinate).

It may cost me no money to upgrade at this point(~$460 from ebay and the $140 profit from sale of droid). Not bad for having the newest device and paying little out of pocket.

I also plan to stay ahead of the game and resell my X or Facinate on ebay when the newest devices are soon to be released.

resale market for high end Android devices is great and provides the consumer with a strategy to upgrade their devices with not too much out of pocket expense.

You would think that. Still, the lack of custom roms isn't necessarily all that's at stake. I'm guessing we WON't get a true 2.2 release, at least with the tethering support intact. Obviously it's it Verizon's best interest to lock down this option, so I'm guessing that will be neutered. Also, without root or custom rom abilities, overclocking may not be possible.

I'm not too terribly concerned, since I've pretty much accepted I'll get another phone this time next year (assuming LTE is in my area by then) but I like to have my options. I've had WM phones that have missed updates, and being a non-HTC device keeps you from getting the full force of the modding community. And I just can't take my Storm any longer... freezing up constantly, and just frustrating to deal with. All work and no play makes blackberries dull phones.

Damn, that's crazy. I would rather just stick with something for a period time before deciding to switch.

I know it's a disease. Android hay fever I believe is the correct diagnosis.

Considering I'm not spending too much money upgrading, I enjoy it. I only have an allegiance to Google and couldn't care less about the manufacturers.

I tend not to fall in love with any device. I need the latest and greatest.

Only real drawback is not purchasing accessories.

It really is the one great thing about Android. The ability to jump to another device almost seamlessly. They need to work on app data getting properly migrated but the overall ease of switch is great for Android customers.

How does the hummingbird compare to a snapdragon and the processor in the x? I know that a 1ghz snapdragon =/= a 1ghz omap that is found in the x (at least it is not supposed to). How does the hummingbird stack up? And what speed is it supposed to be? With all this big bs I am not too thrilled about the Fascinate. I hope that it gets rooted quickly for those that do get it. Also custom roms for this would be a must so that you could remove all of the bing crap...

look at the quadrant benchmarks that will tell you the whole story on how the processors and phones stack up. the hummingbird may have a great gpu but it seems a little overrated

Excuse my ignorance but where can I find these at?

I like your thinking bud. :) I do the same thing. Lets keep it on the downlow though so others dont get involved in selling theirs so we can sell ours :)

I started doing this with my original Droid. Buy Droid, Sell Droid for equal or a little less value, in return buy the next thing which happened to be the Inc in which I fully intend on selling my Inc to get the X. Who knows though whats past that. I may end up being satisfied with the X as its basically the device Ive been WANTING for quite awhile just it never came out. Huge screen, great PCU, GPU, Nice camera(**** its better them my GF's digitil camera). And most importantly to me, the thing seems like its built like a friggin brick sh!t house tank which I loved about the Droid. The Inc to me feels EXTREMELY cheap for a 500 device.. and I mean extremely...

i thought verizon did something so you cant do this? the guy i talked to said if the phone wasnt activated on my account in 30 days and for 90 days or osmething like that, they would charge me $300 or something around there. he said they started this for the exact reason you stated. you had no problem doing that with your incredible?

I dont see why it would be a problem to begin with. If I pay 570 dollars for a device then its rightfully mine to do whatever I please with it even if that means me selling it. IF they do infact do that then their literally charging you twice for the device which isnt right and could turn to legal options.

For my personally, Im lucky that it hasnt but like I said, If they do infact now do that, thats highway robbery and will look into legal options because their basically screwing you over.
