Too many choices (X vs. Fascinate vs. Epic 4G)

I'm passing on the x because of the locked boot loader. So nice of motorola to screw up a great device.

What is this boot loader issue I keep hearing about with the X?

Samsung's phone doesn't really interest me. The X has my heart and I'm never going to give it up. It will never let me down. ;)

do you have proof of it being locked? if so please link to it. been trying to figure this out...

Straight from Motorola themselves.....

?We understand there is a community of developers interested in going beyond Android application development and experimenting with Android system development and re-flashing phones. For these developers, we highly recommend obtaining either a Google ADP1 developer phone or a Nexus One, both of which are intended for these purposes. At this time, Motorola Android-based handsets are intended for use by consumers and Android application developers, and we have currently chosen not to go into the business of providing fully unlocked developer phones.
Securing the software on our handsets, thereby preventing a non-Motorola ROM image from being loaded, has been our common practice for many years. This practice is driven by a number of different business factors. When we do deviate from our normal practice, such as we did with the DROID, there is a specific business reason for doing so. We understand this can result in some confusion, and apologize for any frustration.? Lori FraleighMotodev

Maybe the boot loader being locked will shy people away and make it easier for me to get a phone on launch day :D

That is not specifically pertaining to the X. IIRC that statement was made a few months ago. This phone is a beast and will be made even better if a custom rom can be flashed. The more I think about it the more I am deciding not to get it if there is no hope of cracking...

Oh, im not trying to say there will be no hope of cracking it. I mean im sure there will be plenty of people working to get root, but it just may not be a quick process since its their intent to lock it down. Other phones got root quickly because the manufacturer was not purposely restricting it. It just may be months before it actually happens for this one, but then again it only takes one person to solve it.

But I mean that comment wasn't directly related to the X but rather to "all" future phones. Hopefully they changed their mind as the milestone is still not cracked. Hopefully we at least see root. If not, hello HTC!

Yeah, I think that statement came out during the time people were trying to crack the milestone and they went directly to Motorola for help and that was their response.

I think you should compare the Galaxy S phones more to the Inc than the X. They're targeted at different audiences, and they all share similar specs. The Incredible is more comparable to the Galaxy S than any other Android perhaps. First decide if you like X over Incredible, if not then consider the Galaxy. If you prefer X over Incredible though, I doubt you'll end up buying a Galaxy S.

This is all from the standpoint of none of us seeing a review yet (6PM today !!! hopefully)

And this differs from most other Android based phones how?

I'm not too worried, and I don't see how this could be a major nor effective deterrent from using what looks to be a great phone.

The galaxy S is 4" screen, the X is 4.3", and the Inc 3.7". They are all different devices.

The GS and the INC are not comparable. They have two different chipsets. The Inc has snapdragon, while the GS has the new much hyped Hummingbird processor. Furthermore the Hummingbird is said to do 90 million triangles per second, while a Nexus One with snapdragon only does 30 million per second.

lets not also forget the Hummingbird is using a 45nm chip which will require much less power to run. Early reports have the GS getting 2 days use on a charge.

The Screen technology is also much different. Amoled screens, as found on the InC, are not good for reading in sunlight. The GS uses super amoled which reduces glare by 80 % and uses 20% less battery then regular amoled. Super amoled is also said to offer a much better resolution and overall viewing experience.

The GS also offers 720p video recording, something unavailable on the INC.

Also the GS offers DLNA out of the box.

THE GS and the INC may only be similar in aesthetics. I don't mean to be mean but I highly doubt many of us buy our devices solely based on aesthetics.

In conclusion the GS and the INC are nothing alike. Once you get into the internals they are 2 completely different devices.

x for sure, just consider that moto phones get more updates than samsungs

and, at least droid x look less like the old iphone, while galazy has no style at all.

Are you concerned with reports of Moto X locking down the bootloader?

This may help influence my decision. I like running custom roms and don't want to get locked into a device I wouldn't be able to modify.

I wish people would quit linking to Ozcar Guide stories. They are almost never accurate, if at all.
Didn't know that. Deleted that post.

OP, both of these phones will be good either way you look at it but neither are out yet so all we can do is speculate. I think the best way to make your decision would be to play with them at a store and see which you'd prefer.

I completely agree and that is probably my plan. I enjoy the speculation though and it gives me a game plan at least when heading to the stores. I want all the info I can get on these devices.

Hoping we will have more info later today after the Samsung press event.

Because more other Android based phones aren't put out with the sole intention of keeping you from flashing ROM, and rooting. Most other companies figure some of them will get rooted and are ok with that, but Motorola's intent is to not have anyone flash nothing but offically signed motorola ROMs on it. Thats a BIG difference IMO.

Actually that could very well be a true article, wasn't the HTC head guy quoted that they were looking to bring out such a phone 2gz dual processor, by the end of the year? I can find the article, i know it was on engadget and phonedog.

He was quoted as saying an Android device. Could be a phone or it could be a tablet.

irrelevant either way. We all know that both of these devices will be surpassed within 3-4 months. The newer devices will have much better processors, battery management, screen resolutions, camera tech(mps, censors, xenon flash), and gpu's.

The inevitable will happen. We can only live in the now. If we keep waiting for new technology we would never buy devices.
