Towel Root and help request

HaHa, you got punished.:p
Yeah... I know I should've just stayed with stock rooted with xposed! Then to make it worse, the nandroid I saved kept failing when attempting to restore! I ended up going back to stock unrooted 4.2.2 like out of the box then did a couple OTAs to get back to 4.4.2. Factory reset then towelroot again! Now I'm standing on stock rooted. Lol

I finally got in bed around 6am yesterday morning!

Flashed the Optimus G3 ROM and xposed and it is a great ROM.

Staying away from the CM and other AOSP ROM's. Too much trouble. Get tired of always having to either find workarounds to issues or tweaking things

So download towelroot and press the button to root and that's it? I don't want to install ROMs or anything like that, just want to un-install all the preloaded applications to free up some storage.

Will I still need a custom recovery just for rooting?

LG G2 (D800[20u]) on 4.4.2 stock

Sorry for the noobiness but I understand very little of mobile tech and am In need of help.

That's all there is to it. As far as I know you don't need a custom recovery unless you want to flash things.

You surely don't! I don't have one and I'm chugging along just fine! I guess you could use a custom recovery just to make a nandroid in the event something funky happens while modding

Alright, thanks for sharing all the information and links! :D I don't expect to be doing any flashing or installing ROMs at the time just clearing some space on my phone.

Once I have root using towelroot.apk, can I delete the .apk file? I'm receiving security messages about towelroot being an exploit and I'd like to stop these messages.

Just got done flashing the Options G3 ROM myself and it's incredible! This will definitely hold me until my upgrade in October! I don't even think I'm gonna switch the launcher from stock!

So you did give in and do it!
What process did you use? Thinking of doing it too, but want to make sure of the procedure before attempting it.

I downloaded the files to my phone in the download folder.

Rebooted into recovery

Create a nandroid (back out go to recovery and verify it's there)

Wipe then wipe Dalvik cache

Flash the radio then flash the ROM

Wipe again as above the reboot the phone. I personally like to do a clean install like fresh outta the box

TWRP and CWM are two of the more popular recoveries. You will need one or the other to do most of what you said you would like to do. A backup (also called a Nandroid) is a good idea.

Can you post the link to the method you used? Sometimes in rooting procedures, flashing a custom recovery is part of the rooting process.

Ok here'sone for you. I rooted the wife's s3 with towelroot, worked beautifully. She started getting updates for kit kat (which i would have never believed the s3 was going to get kit kat) so I tried to freeze configupdate via quarntine app. Still got notification for kit kat ota but would not actually update. So I figure ild FDR phone, update her to kit kat and see if towelroot will work again. Now, after and fdr the s3 is still rooted. Wtf? Half the time i cannot get a phone to keep root now I cant unroot root it via fdr. Any advice?

So you uninstalled Towelroot? Another way would be to reflash the stock ROM. That will wipe any root access.

Sorry for asking in this thread. But so many wise people here.
Last night I tried for the very first time to root a phone. Which was this lg g2 d802 international carrier.
Root method was ioRoot I believe it was called.
After that installed titanium back up pro and ran a full back up and copied the full back up to my hdd as well for safety reasons.
Am I now safe enough with back up or do I need to use that autorec aswell? I am not going to use different roms. Really happy about stock.
But I want xposed and try all its features. But I have never tried this before and I want to be fully safe so I don't brick my phone and can't redo it all if I screw it all up.

I'm not sure if ioroot installs a custom recovery but if you don't have plan to flash any ROMs then you're likely good to go. I will say that I'm not 100% sure of Titanium's backup fidelity but I'd still install a custom recovery and create a nandroid back up of your stock image for added safety.

I agree on installing a custom recovery. That will make a backup of your current setup of the OS, which you will need in case something goes wrong with Xposed.

So I have been out of circulation for sometime now. I have a LG Optimus F6 I watched a YouTube video concerning Towelroot it had my phone in it and dude got root access. I am new to rooting myself a friend rooted my last phone. My question is is Towelroot legitimate. Im worried about my phone ending up bricked. I really want to dispose of all the Metro bs on my phone.
