I've no problem using SP at Lucky, but when I tried numerous times at BB, no dice. Might this be a BB-wide issue, or perhaps it was just the equipment at the store I went to in San Jose? Has anyone here successfully used it at a BB store?

I have, no issues. The cashier must, however, initiate the payment as credit card IIRC. But yeah, I've used it at a couple Best Buys in San Diego.

Only 2 places I have had issues is at BB & Lowe's. At Lowe's, I couldn't get it to work at all. At BB, I couldn't get the MST to work, but once I used the NFC terminal it worked fine. I use it as much as possible, & have had no problems anywhere else.

Sorry, what is MST? Is that the Samsung Pay wireless protocol?? I avoid using ANdroid Pay due to needing to leave NFC on, as I don't like bothering to turn it on only when I need it. With my Note 2, there is no SP, ,so I can only use AP and often I've gotten to the register with NFC turned OFF. its a nuisance to remember and to turn it ON and I don't like it draining the battery by leaving it ON all the time.

Yup, MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) is the wireless technology used by Samsung to emulate the magnetic strip. To the best of my knowledge, Samsung Pay should also work with NFC and automatically turns the antenna on and off as needed.

Im wondering if thats an issue with new CHIP cards.
I tried to use NFC to pay for something at BB and the lady told me i had to use my card and insert it for a CHIP payment and not a swipe payment.
They may have a security feature to prevent fraud if a charge is over XX amount of dollars. Thats another thought.

they might also be missing a prompt to enter the last 4 digits of the virtual card (I didn't have to do that before, and now I've been asked for that a couple times this week).

The clerk asked me for the 4 digit code and then the transaction went through. I never got any indication of success when holding my phone against the terminal but when I gave him the code, he completed the transaction.

It does turn NFC on automatically. That's how I got it to work at BB.

No, its not a chip card thing. The lady did not know of what she speaks. SP with MST or NFC is the same as a chip card in that only tokens are passed back and dofrth.

For me it appeared to work more so with the NFC payment rather than the MST payment. Just a matter of what side of the payment terminal you have to use.

I tried both sides of the terminal at BB, didn't work, did not have NFC enabled. I did two separate transactions at the BB store, and second time I just reiterated the 4 digit code to the cashier, so the second transaction went through quickly as I didn't want to mess around with trying to get it to work by placing the phone at the terminal again.

Yup, it seems for some cards the 4 digit (which is shown in your screen while paying since it's the 4 digits for the virtual card, not your actual card) is now being asked for. If the clerk isn't paying attention, they might miss the fact that the terminal is asking for this to complete the transaction. You might not get the audible feedback from the phone that the transaction was complete unless you're still holding the phone to the terminal while inputting the 4 digits, but you should receive a Samsung Pay transaction notification when it goes through.
