UK LG G3 Wireless Charging Issues

Fixed my issue...

I was using a different/longer USB cable from the wall to the charger itself and it was causing the phone to have this issue of charging when I first put it on the dock, then stop charging. For fun, I replaced the cable to the dock with the one that came in the box and BAM, everything is working great now. It starts charging as soon as it hits the dock and stays charging the whole night. If you're not using the USB cable that came with the dock, try it and see if it resolves your issue. Just my experiences...

Ok guys. Let's place all the eggs in basket... Regarding different wireless chargers problems - the answer is simple as 2x2. And some recommendations from electronics engineer... :)

G3 itself have no SW nor HW problem... as well as original WCD-100 QI stand... The stand is not convenient (since lanscape only) I agree.. but works fine. Some mentioned when closing the data charging works ok... Place your phone in flight mode - it will be even better... :)))))
But seriously - where is the goat?... :) - in crappy LG power supply and... even more crappiest cable... :) - yes, original.. genuine.. LG staff

So, symptoms: phone does not charge ok.. it gets extremely warm.. it "blumps" each 1-2 minutes regarding "wireless charging" - i.e. stops and restart charging?? - pretty known :)

Answer: Despite LG confirms their original accessories are ok, they definitely NOT - 1800mA travel charger does not supply sufficient power (taking in account the sufficient voltage drop on this one) - but the battery is still 3000mAh... and it is hungry!!! :p As a result, the current in coils growing obove the normal thresholds and both end devices ohone and charger as well are starting to overhit !!! In certain moment the PTC (thermal fuse) inside one (or both) shut off and the charging process has reset with the famous "blump"...

BTW you can pay attn, that the phone getting so overhit, that you cannot increase the brightness of the screen to 100%, but only to 80-90%, since the thermal detector inside the phone works good to prevent device overhit and informs SW :))))

So, changing the cable and, specially, the travel charger (for a good one, a 2.0 MA, for example) will/might solve the problem?

And now the solution:

1. And most simple - fing the micro USB wall charger with output current of 2000-2100 mA
2. You can still use the original charger, but need to find short and well shielded USB cable (in my case I tried with 3" length cable of external USB hard drive).
3. Take GOOD active industrial USB hub with big power supply and connect charging stand to it (in this case you should not care aboutthe USB cable quality) :)

I tried all 3 solutions and they worked with no problem :p:p:p even when I charged with mobile data, BT, GPS receiver and WiFi all switch on !

Enjoy the silence... :)

Fixed for me!

Bought generic QI charger from fleabay. Had loads of issues but was trying to charge from generic USB plug.

Replaced plug with one that comes with the phone, using original USB cable that came with phone as well and generic QI charger. Works like a dream!

Yeap also got problems wireless charging - even though i'm using original charger it comes up with the message about slow charging... (very annoying)

All,
I have found the issue is indeed with the power output of the charger that you plug into the wireless mat. You need a 2.0 amp output or tablet charger for wireless charging to work.

I'm using a standard QI circular pad that was giving me the 'slow charging' warning every 5 seconds when using an old samsung charger. Using the supplied LG charger I still had too many warnings unless I got the position just right.
Now I have replaced the charger with a 2.0 amp tablet charger and have no issues at all.
The supplied LG charger only had a 1.8 amp output, which you'd think was enough, but clearly isn't quite.

I'm using LG WCD-100 charger. adaptor (1.8A) and cable are all official LG products. I have exactly the same issue as others. I will try the HP adaptor (2.0A) as someone recommended and will share the result again.

Thank you members. this forum helps very much:)

I have one of these now, and am getting the same issue with 3 different QI pads and various supplies. I just used an in-line USB voltage and current meter to do some testing. The phone on its own wants to draw about 230-240mA when charging plugged directly into the charger. However, when I introduce the QI pad, the current demand peaks at 340mA, and this causes the 5 second beep loop. I suspect this is due to the PSU tripping on over current and then resetting. I am looking for a 3A PSU, as I think this may be the solution.

Is the draw really that low? 340mA is 0.3 of an amp; this would imply any charger sufficient.
I have two chargers on two QI rings; both 2.0 amp. I still find times when the phone refuses to charge nicely on either pad, and other times when it charges fine on both. To me, this implies processes in the handset that dictate whther it charges properly or just cycles through the warning.

Well, I found a 4-way USB charger at home and tried that (reasoning that it would have a higher output). Using the same QI pad, the phone charges without beeps as long as it is placed correctly. However, I tried putting my USB volt/ammeter in line, and it didn't like it. The beeps returned. I'll monitor it today and see how it goes.

I have the t-mobile version here in the US and I've had problems. I bought a cheap qi charger that I have been using for my nexus 7, but it won't work. I get an error message every couple seconds saying that it's charging slowly because I'm not using the cord that came with it as well as saying I need to move it to the hot zone. I've been wondering if it's because the charger is cheap or the charging back is cheap too.

Tylt VU is the best Qi charger I have come across. You can place the phone in portrait or landscape mode and it works every time. A little pricey but sometimes we get what we pay for. Well worth the money.

This 15mb patch actually caused my problem. It was charging normally before, then now its just like this video (from HennersL's post) above. This mean its most probably an software problem rather than hardware.

Hi All,

Hoping some people may have some advice to offer. I got my LG G3 on day of release. I also ended up buying a Qi wireless chrging plate
from Amazon.co.uk....RAVPower RP-WCN7, according to the manufacturer who I contacted after having issues with my 1st one that the plate does work with the G3...

Takes an age to actually get the phone detected, I either get messages " place phone in centre of hotzone" or I can get it to start charging, but then bleeps every 5secs to say its charging, then stops charging again..

The plates both work perfectly with my Nexus 7(2013)

Anyone experienced any similar issues?

Cheers

John

John,
Try a higher amperage plug. I use a 1.8 or 2.0 amp plug. This seems to help. I got the same problem at first charging uncharging, over and over. The higher amperage plugged fixed the problem.

I had the same issue as those above, what worked for me (With WCP-300 Genuine LG Wireless charger)

1. Find a charger who gives 1.8-2.0 amperage - the stronger, the better
2. Take off the rear cover and put it back on after wiping the electrics on it with your finger:D (yes, this actually ended the notifications for me)

That's it. Hope it will fix it for you.

The wireless receiver coil in LG G3 is from IDT, it doesn't function as good as TI's solution(LG Nexus 5) in my opinion, the position is hard to locate for LG G3 while it is very easy for both Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.

Hey guys. I bought a Qi charger and then realized my model wasn't equipped with the wireless charging antenna(L990 for Sprint.). So I bought one off Amazon and installed it. It was pretty easy to install. Now when I put the phone on the charging pad it will charge for about 3 to 5 seconds and then quit. Sometimes it will charge for 15 to 30 minutes but that's about %30 of the time. The rest of the time it will just charge momentarily then stop. I've done a lot of research(and a lot of adjusting the damn phone on the pad) but haven't found anyone else complaining about that specific problem. Kinda weird. I'm thinking it's gotta be a software problem though. I wanted it to work so bad. But it's just so unreliable. Major bummer. Does anyone have any suggestions. Note: I never get the "slow charge, adjust phone on hot spot error." Just Charging, then not. Frustrating.

Lollipop has a bug that is rendering wireless charging, both PMA and Qi chargers, useless. Google "lollipop wireless charging" and you will find reports of problems.
It has happened to me. Wireless charging worked with KitKat, doesn't work with Lollipop. Now that I'm back to using a plug in charger, I wonder why I went to the expense of buying the case and the charging pads. The plug is more reliable and unlike a pad, it keeps the battery topped off so that there's always 100% on the battery in the morning.
