Re: Uncarrier 12! No Data Buckets!

I'm not sure I'm understanding you. Are you saying that they're giving unlimited HD video for $25 that won't count towards the "de-prioritization" cap? So 26GB for everything else, but truly unlimited HD? That doesn't make sense, considering they're capping the $15 hotspot add-on at 5GB...

Plus right now, doesn't Binge On video still count towards your data albeit since it's 480p and not 1080p or better, it takes longer to get to the cap?

No, BingeOn doesn't count toward your data allotment at all, I have 6GB a month right now and if I do nothing on my phone other than watch video from a BingeOn service for a month straight, I will still have 6GB available at the end of the month. Yes, it is limited to 480p video, this new plan allows you to pay $25 more a month to get 1080p HD video, that still doesn't count toward your data cap. Whereas the wifi hotspot will use your data and that's why there's a limit.

I get it now, thanks: BO data doesn't count towards data plan (6GB in your case and non-existent for UDP) but it does count towards the "de-prioritization" 26GB.

I would still say the $25 fee is a partial Binge On disabler because the HD videos would ostensibly be available at regular (non-1.5mbps) speeds, whereas Binge On caps video data at 1.5mbps.

Yep that is what scares me. I hope I can keep my promo plan for a good while.
You can keep your current plan. You don't have to choose new plan. From the article....

"Anybody who has any existing rate plans, they can keep them forever," Sherrard said. In those words. "Nobody has to change, we're not going to migrate anybody over."

Didn't Legere at one of the events say that everyone's plans and prices were guaranteed "for life," except for unlimited plans, which would remain guaranteed untouched for two years only?

I do recall when i had the 2/100 promo it was good for 2 years, then the 4/150 came out so i got that and a similar situation, guaranteed for 2 years. Let hope they allow us to keep them longer then that.

Re: Uncarrier 12! No Data Buckets!

All I know from watching the wireless industry is that you can count on the fact that at some point they will change their mind and decide to tick off their customers...No matter the company. Sprint, TMO, Verizon, AT&T...they all do it...they have done it in the past...and they'll do it again in the future. At the end of the day, "Uncarrier" is just a good marketing strategy and nothing else.

So sure, T-Mobile says that they'll let you keep your current plan...for now...I can only imagine it's a matter of time before they decide that they want everyone on the new TMO "One" Plan.

They might say publicly that they'll keep you grandfathered in to your current plan...but again, I wouldn't be too quick to trust them when they say that. Verizon promised unlimited data plan subscribers that they'd be grandfathered in to their plans, only to slowly and painfully eliminate any benefit of having the unlimited plan. (First, they'll make sure that you can't buy a phone on a subsidized 2-year contract, i.e. you have to buy the phone at full price up front ...then they will start capping your speed if you use more than 25GB per month...or whatever the cap was...and now they are kicking subscribers off the grandfathered unlimited plan entirely if they "abuse the network" by using more than 100GB per month)...now mind you, 100GB is an insane amount of data, but this all illustrates the point I'm trying to make.

The wireless industry has a habit of deceiving customers, not only in their billing schemes but also in their PR schemes. This isn't a problem just with VZ or AT&T. This is a problem with the entire industry, an industry of which TMO is a part of. So I don't trust any exec at the company, even when they make bold assurances that we will not be kicked off of our existing plans.

It will only be a matter of time before we are forced to go along with this new TMO "One" plan.

TMO--the friendly neighborhood Uncarrier and all--has a history of force migrations. They did it to grandfathered customers who were on Value/Bridge to Value plans and got migrated to Select Choice plans. They were promised similar plans for at most $1 more, but some with unlimited HS got bumped down to 30mb (yes, megabytes) HS data. And the excuse given then was: "Having so many older rate plans is confusing to our customers." Sound perennially applicable to you?

Edit: meanwhile, in the present, the EFF has an initial position on this plan: http://www.dailydot.com/debug/t-mobile-one-unlimited-data-net-neutrality-eff/. I hope John Legere knows who the EFF is.

I'll keep my unlimited HD all I want for no extra fee plan. The 2 lines for $100 deal they did before :).
So our grandfathered simple choice plans will stay? I have the simple choice N/A 3lines+4th line for free for 150.00.

Prices are guaranteed for 2 years on UDP. Plan will stick though.

T-Mobile guarantees the unlimited plans only for two years.

The lack of transparency...or should I say honesty is very troubling. This affirms my belief that the "Uncarrier" branding TMO has adopted is nothing more than just a face for the company.

In reality, TMO treats their customers no better than the other carriers. John Legere is a brilliant trickster. Somehow he has managed to get most of the media to believe that this is somehow a good deal for consumers and that no one loses by this new plan.

Right. That two year window closes in March IIRC, at which point TMO reserves the right to make those UDPs $200 per line if they want. The plans will stick though.

It's ridiculous that if I were signing up and use at most 2GB, I'd have to pay the same as someone using 26GB or more. And that's before SMHS costs.

The current plan I have, 4 lines of unlimited data for 150.00 was activated in March of this year I believe. So my price should be good till March of 2018 right?

Yes, it my understanding that you are guaranteed that plan for at least 2 years...it could even still be good beyond 2 years, but 2 years is the minimum guarantee.

I'm not sure if it was two years from when you signed up or two years from the date of that announcement. I would hope it's the former but maybe someone who remembers clearly can confirm.

I will hang on to my plan (2 line/$100 unlimited all / $40 additional per line) as long as I can. If it gets ridiculous I will most likely go to Verizon. I figure if I am going to pay an arm and a leg I mine as well get the best coverage. So far the coverage for T-Mobile works for me but not to pay a ton for it.

I feel the same way. Right now I'm saving money through T-Mobile, but if I ever get forced off of my current plan, then I might as well switch to Verizon or AT&T because I'll get way better coverage at roughly the same cost. The T-Mobile "One" plan is a genius marketing scam because it's an absolute rip off if you don't use that much data (5GB or less per month). Not to mention all of the other asterisks that come along with the plan.

Thing is... when I first started the 4 lines of unlimited data(used to have the 2 for 100) Dec of last year it was 180.00.Then in March of this year there was a new plan that offered 3 lines of unlimited data plus a 4th line free for 150.00. I called and inquired if my corporate discount could be applied to this plan?T-Mobile csr said yes. So I changed my original 4 line plan to this newer one. Thats why I am asking if the price would stick to March of 2018?

Re: Uncarrier 12! No Data Buckets!

I wouldn't worry about it until they actually started to change the prices on grandfathered plans.

The new plan tells me a few things..

1... T-Mobile doesn't really care much about single line, low data users. At $70 per line, if you use a gig or two, you're overpaying. You'd be better off at a MVNO or Project Fi. Users like this must comprise such a small number of their new customers that it's not worth wooing them.

2... If you get a group of 4, you can get full non-BO UDP at an average of $65 per line, and add another 4 at $45 per... Use BO and that 4 line average is $40... Adding the next 4 at $20 per... Either option is pretty good. NN arguments aside, the reduced video quality you get with BO enabled isn't that much of a drop on a screen the size of a phone.

3... T-Mobile has identified tethering as something they could monetize better... No more free 14g LTE allotments. Either add a $20 sim or pay $15 for each 5G LTE data block. Fair or not, T-Mobile only wants people to use UDP data in the device that they paid access for.

This plan actually tells me that they aren't looking to screw existing UDP plans, they are just looking to eliminate the fringe cases that are using their phones as home WiFi going forward.
