Unlimited Data is back

I received my first bill after switching to unlimited today. I made it effective on the month end date so it would be for an even month. I have 3 lines so I knew the total would be $170 plus tax (110+20+20+20=170). I also already had paperless billing and signed up for auto pay to get the $10 discount. On the vzw website it shows I am getting the $10 discount fur a auto pay in the home page.

However, the bill doesn't show any credit for auto pay and has a total owed of $178. I was expecting to see the $178 and then a $10 credit for $168 to be deducted from my account. I called and spoke to billing who told me I should be getting the credit for auto pay but sometimes it won't show on the first bill. The rep had to manually enter the $10 credit and assured me next month it would show correctly. Just thought I would share to let others know and see if anyone else missed the credit in the first bill after changing plans.

Yeah I don't think autopay discount kicks in till a cycle or two.

I think this may be true. I didn't see a $5 discount on the 5GB plan even though it is supposed to have it. I called Verizon today and they said the reason I didn't get it was because I have a Credit Card on file rather than a debit card. But unlike the Unlimited plan, there is no print saying this is necessary. So I guess it may take another month. I did, however, get offered a $5 credit for this month without asking so it worked out for now.

I'm not signing up for auto pay untill I see a couple, three bills to make sure it is being billed right. First month was a fail, so will see how next month goes.

edit 2: is there somewhere that shows you how much tethering you've used? I found data usage but not tethering

I've looked for it too and haven't found it. I don't think Verizon will classify tethering data as that from your phone because the Nexus 6P does not check for carrier provisioning. Some factory unlocked phones check carrier provisioning; some do not.

The factory unlocked, non-Verizon Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X do check carrier provisioning, so I'm guessing your Verizon account would show tethering data if you used one of those devices.

One way to keep an eye on your tethering data is to use your phone's built in data usage meter.

Running a Verizon S7 Edge on Nougat here and when I click on the "Mobile Data Usage" and scroll thru the next screen I can find Mobile Hotspot in the list and it looks accurate to what I think I used.

Pure Nexus rom has the hotspot provision check block built in. Didnt know about it not checking on stock either though. Still a way to check would be nice. My gf's tmobile got a text saying she used 80% of her tethering, do we get a similar text?

Thanks, just checked and mine has it too. Although i changed roms so dont know what i used before. My data is already at 16gb and restarts on the 5th so ill see soon if they slow mine down

Since I went on the new unlimited plan I do find myself using Wifi and downloading shows on my tablet at home more than when I was on the grandfathered unlimited. Maybe next month I will let it run free like before, Still I would only use like 30-50 GB when I did that.

All the extra Data will be hotspot, though. I have not curved back too much on my phone, just the HotSpot stuff.

Current workaround, set your billing cycle dates and monitor on the device:

Still, VZW should fix their app to track what they say the usage is.

What phone are you using? Maybe you mentioned it earlier but I missed it. The reason I ask is because if you have a factory unlocked phone that does not check carrier provisioning, Verizon does not see it as tethering. To them it is just your phone using data. Because they do not classify it as tethering, of course the app will not show it.

Pixel. Purchased from a VZW store.

OK, that should track tethering. I don't have an answer why it doesn't.

It does. He is just saying that Verizon should track it on their side versus him having to do it on his phone.

Yup, I understood that. I meant that this setup should track tethering. Sorry, I didn't make that clear.

I've used factory unlocked phones that don't check provisioning on Verizon for the last 3 years or so. I have 0 experience using Verizon's tethering measurement because they don't. I use the built in Android data meter to see how much tethering data I used.
