Unlocked Bootloader (Get it while it's hot!)

Also my market is fine and i didnt loose anything on my sd card. I didnt know that was an issue. Damn I got lucky.
And yes you will be able to undervolt with root. I already froze about 20 apps and will uninstall them when I know my phone dosnt need them.
Now we just need a CWM and Soff and well be set.

Before I send my GNEX back LOL, this is the same thing as s-off pretty much, correct? Same capabilities, etc.? I can't wait to ship my GNEX back. This was the only reason why I wasnt swapping it yet and now I have no excuses.

Man, managed to get the bootloader code finally... now I just can't decide if I want to do this or not >>

If I unlock the bootloader I can then root, yeah? And then I get free wifi for my iPad, right?

What happens when ICS comes out? Do we need to re-root or something? I also heard something about not deleting VZs bloatware because of future updates that will check for certain applications, or some .

A few general answers to a few general questions on here:

- On the HTCDev site, there are instructions for re-locking the bootloader. Unlocking is reversible. If you have no immediate plans on returning the Rezound, go ahead and unlock it. Enjoy the freedom. As MrSmith said, if you need to return it and are worried about it being unlocked, just do it by phone. Usually they just receive it, turn it on, and factory reset it once they get their hands on it. No harm, no foul.

- No, you cannot undervolt it just yet. Because S-On is still there, we're unable to explore kernels (for now) because the partition where this is stored requires a security key (General explanation. Android vets, feel free to correct/go in-depth)

- I deleted all bloatware. No, I didn't back it up. Yes, my phone runs great (375 MB free RAM with Sense anyone?) If you prefer ICS via the future OTA update, you can backup the bloatware and simply re-install it in order to get the update. Your best bet for pure ICS is to wait for the ROMs that should come out in the next few weeks, now that we have this great honor of unlocked bootloader.

I just wanted to add that while you can't undervolt. You can underclock using SetCPU. One of the guys over on another forum has been doing so with temp root. So it stands that underclocking should work just as fine now.

I've overclocked my Droid, and I understand the benefits of it, but what is the benefit of underclocking?
Don't most phones just hover around 300Mhz by default?

I bought my phone on eBay and I am therefore fully willing to root/rom etc. Question is, once I unlock the bootloader via HTC dev assuming I figure out how to do that, how do I root?

To root it, just go to this link and use the file here after you're unlocked:

xda-developers - View Single Post - Unlock Bootloader from HTCDEV.COM (Updated)

I had a problem though at first where the system partition wasn't writable after the unlock, but after going back into the bootloader screen by holding volume down and power it showed it was unlocked. After that the one-click root worked like a charm, so I don't exactly understand what happened there.

using setcpu or similar, you can set the min cpu speed and max cpu speed. you can also set the governor.

With regards to underclocking, it will reduce power consumption, you can lower the min cpu speed, and you can also lower the max cpu speed. lowering the max cpu speed may cause the phone to run slower though. On some phones, some people have said that lowering the min cpu speed too low can cause instabilities.

Rezound supposedly keeps it up around 900Mhz default. I haven't actually checked myself, just going by the other guy's post. Basically an underclock is going to draw less power during times when you don't need it.

According to SetCPU the min frequency on the Rezound is 384mhz.

Okay Guys and Gals, I successfully unlocked my bootloader, and everything looks good EXCEPT one thing. I have a 32 GB micro SD card installed, Under "Settings>SD & Phone Storage" it says Total space 30 GB and Available space 30 GB. However when I go "Settings>Applications>Storage Use>On SD card" it says 236 MB used and 10GB free. What happened to the other 20 GB?

I also used Phone Tester Pro and under System Information it says my SD Card Capacity is 10.48 GB and used is 236 MB. I also checked it with Elixer 2 and it says the same thing. I pulled the card and checked it with my computer and it says 30 GB capacity. I am really baffled as to why my phone only recognizes 10 GB after I unlocked the bootloader. Anyone have an explanation? And a solution to get my 20 GB back.

I thought maybe when I unlocked the bootloader something happened to the 32 GB card, so I put the original 16 GB card in, and it said the exact same thing. Only 10 GB capacity, so I lose 6 GB. My conclusion is that the MicroSD cards are okay and that there is something going on with the phone's OS since unlocking the bootloader.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution? Thank you.

The 10gb is from the internal sd card which is 16gb, but only 10GB is usable as sd storage.

If you want to try it, put in a. 1gb sd card, and that same menu will show the same 10gb.

The internal 16gb storage is divided up as follows from what I can tell:

10gb internal storage
2gb app storage
4gb who knows, most likely system and recovery.

Huh, I guess I shoulda known that when Phone Tester Pro referred to SD Card that they really meant the Internal Phone Storage, and when Elixer 2 referred to External Storage they really were referring to Internal Phone Storage. My bad! I guess I learn something everyday. Its good news though, I guess there's nothing wrong with my phone. Thanks Dpham00 for clearing that up.

So let me ask for clarity. So if I move Apps from "phone" to SD Card, I'm really moving apps from the Phone's 2GB of App Storage to the 10GB of Internal Storage (NOT really the 32 GB SD Card)?

There's an easy way to find out. Move an app, then remove your SD card. Reboot the phone, and if the app is gone then it's in that tiny little piece of silicon in your hand. :)

That's the long way of saying I don't actually know. :)

Pretty much. Since the internal SD card got the /sdcard label that's where a lot of stored information will wind up.
