Unresponsive black screen

Hi

I'm having the same issue. I've had the black screen earlier and the Sound down + Power worked.
This time around after havignt hte phone 1 month none of the buttons work. No matter what I press the screen is black. The first day I got some strange stripes on the screen when trying the button combinations. I've had the phone laying around over the weekend to drain the battery, but that does not seem to have given a proper restart either. I still get a blue LED light and the back button lighting up once in a while but I'm not able to get my screen back on.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one the resart routine is not working for. If anyone has any more tips please give them, but currently all I have gotten is a black screen after testing all possible button combinations.

I work for T-Mobile and have seen a handful of Galaxy S6 return with the "Black Screen of Death", however I believe the cause of this problem is that there was an update for the OS but I guess maybe the developer forgot to program it to restart after the update has been applied. So what I did to remedy this problem was to do a hard reset which works on the Galaxy S7 as well. Hold down Power Button + Home Button + Volume Down button and after 20 seconds it should perform a hard reset. The reason why I think it may have something to do with the update is every single time after I have perform that hard reset, it prompts me "Thank you for updating your phone". That seem to fix the problems since those customers never returned with any more issues.

Got black screen too. Used volume up, power and home keys. When I got menu I chose "power down." Turned back on without issue. Working fine now. Definitely a problem Samsung needs to fix!

I just had the black screen on my S7 after only owning it for two weeks. I followed all your advice about the vol down and power button and it worked thanks! Had to hold the buttons for a good 10 seconds though for it to work. Phew! Thank you 😊

I just got the galaxy s7edge today. I turn it on for the first time, boot animation, then just black screen. Volume rockers work, cap touch buttons light up etc but black screen like everybody else here. The power and vol down worked for me, but honestly this isn't the experience I want when opening up a brand new $800 phone for the first time. I wanted to ask if this issue was a one time thing for most of you or if you still run into this? If it was a continual issue, did getting a new phone fix the issue?

Thanks

for me it was a one time thing and this phone has been the best and fastest one I've owned since that one hiccup

I am on my second S7.
Both did the black screen with no light or no signs of life.

First one was purchased about 4 weeks ago and I returned it after the 3rd time this happened.
I have had the second s7 for about week and tonight it did the black screen.

Placed it on the charger for about 10min and took it off and it came back alive.

I will have to remember the power and volume down trick.

This problem is really annoying and I don't know what to do. I can return again but don't know what I would replace it with. Maybe I should return the s7 and go back to my S4 and wait 6 months and purchase another s7

You would think Samsung would do something besides watching a bunch of phones being returned.

Both of mine have gone completely black with no signs of any power. No blinky lights or sounds.
Just like removing a battery from a device that has a removable battery. Completely dead and the battery has plenty of charge.

All of the above solutions did not work for me. My screen appears to have "died" or burnt out. I've been using a geniuine Samsung Wireless Fast Charging pad to charge mine at night and noticed my S7e was hot to the touch this morning. Several hours later, the phone's screen is basically dead. Some boot animations or recovery booting text will appear briefly but eventually disappear.

I started a thread on reddit explaining my experience.

add another S7 that went "black" Samsung losing confidence in your phones. I am also having an issue with calling anyone using the speaker. Many complaints on the receivers end saying difficult to hear and cuts in and out.

I ran into this issue 3 times already. T mobile tech support was awesome with the help. Each time it happen either I was texting or checking mail. It could be firmware. I never experience it on my s6.

My phone is 3 weeks old and still has the black screen issue when coming from the lock screen. Really annoying. I already tried factory reset and installed apps one by one to pinpoint what app is causing it. Unfortunately I think it has something to do with the firmware instead... I really hate leaving it locked overnight and waking up only to needing to restarting it again with the volume down + power button :( Can someone find a solution please

I have had my S7 for a few months now with no issues what-so-ever. I downloaded the Oculus software and the free games which were 4-5GB of data. The phone was getting pretty hot during the continuous download and then the screen went black. The phone recovered just fine using the volume down/power button trick. The overheating certainly could have been the cause.

Five days in on a new S7 and I got the black screen too. I could hear beeps while hitting some buttons, the bottom buttons would occasionally light up, and the phone would sound off when I called myself. Clearly the phone was operating, and it was just the display that was out.

I see the S6 had a famous "black screen of death" issue, so I followed the "volume down + power" button trick, and the phone soon went into a boot-up prompt. I landed on the "2) Factory Reset" option, but using the volume up button got to the "1) Normal Boot" option, and pressed the home key to do it. My phone is operating correctly now.

This is my first Samsung, but it looks like the S7 retains the S6 Black Screen of Death issue :-(

Hi

This has been happening to me. I'm just curious if you had the game hearthstone installed. I have a feeling that's what is causing the crash on my phone. I reset my phone installed this game and it happened again. So removed the app and it hasn't happened since. It's been happening about 5 times a day now.

This is amazing.. I freaked out behind my phone and did not want to buy another one. Thank you for that information!!

June 20, 2016 my sister and myself purchased the Samsung Galaxy S7 from TMobile. Today July 9th, 3 weeks after getting the screen went totally black.
After calling tmobile they would only replathe fix worked nbyt no thanks to tmobilece phone and said it would be 4 days before i receive. no guarantee that the new one would be any better. the technicians respond woas that tmobile doesnt make phone
