Unresponsive black screen

Of those who reset their phones (rebooted), has this black screen ever re-occurred?

Did anyone also do the wipe partition cache option on a reboot.. did this then result in NOT having more black screens.. curious?

Debating if i need to get a replacement phone or not.

I just got this "black screen of death" on my Samsung Galaxy S7. Have had the phone less than a month. Blue lighting flashing. Tried calling myself - no ring. It appeared the phone was on because of the flashing blue light, but the screen was dead, as if the phone was off. Tried the volume-down button + power-button a couple of times - didn't work. In desparation I tried the volume-down button + power-button again, but this time held for much longer and it finally worked.

In addition to the black screen issue.. mine randomly reboots without warning.. not that often and so far not during a critical moment, unsure how to trouble shoot that either.

Thanks everyone - afer rebooting with your help found out in very dark light my screen brightness setting had been set to lowest (not by my action)

Sounds very similar to mine - Maybe check your screen brightness setting esp. if the screen is ok during boot up.
After bootup, and while screen is still "balck", see if you can pull down the setting menu, and change the brightness setting - the brightness slider on my s6 is about a half-inch down on the settings screen and the auto setting is on the right-hand end of the slider

I have this problem also and tried lots of things to fix it but it seems like a problem with the sd card reader. Anyone able to fix this for good? When i try to eject the sim+sd card when the phone is working then the phone stays on and works fine. When i have the black screen freeze and i eject the simcard + sd card then the phone reboots by it self so guess the sd card gives the problem. Also i noticed that when i select the cameras output folder to the sd card i have this porblem more then when i put the photo's to the internal. I also tried using different sd card by other brands but they all do this and even bought a new one and still not solved the problem.

Dude, i tried it all. I even flashed different firmwares and stil had this problem. Only way for me to not get the freeze is to remove the sd card out of the phone then the phone works like it should.

Hi

This has been happening to me. I'm just curious if you had the game hearthstone installed. I have a feeling that's what is causing the crash on my phone. I reset my phone installed this game and it happened again. So removed the app and it hasn't happened since. It's been happening about 5 times a day now.

No its not the app. Lots of people have this problem and not everyone is playing that game just like me. Try removing the sd card and you will see its fixed.

Hi folks,

My wife and I have both come across this black screen, unresponsive issue.

Although holding down the Power and Volume DOWN buttons for 10 seconds works, but it is only a workaround.

Please note that this is not the actual fix as the root cause still needs to be determined.

I've had the phone for almost a month, and noticed this black screen issue after two days from a Tmobile OTA update.
And my wife just got the phone 3 days ago, that too she did the Tmobile Update the day she a bought it, and came across this issue.

What we noticed was that, the phone was set on the wireless Samsung charger overnight and woke up the next morning and found it in this state.

Here are some setup info of our phones:
Android version: 6.0.1
Android security patch level: April 2, 2016
Kernal version 3.18.20-7620454

Apps downloaded:

Also have Samsung SD card the Pro plus 64gb version.

The reason I provided the above data is to determine if we can call narrow down a commonality in hopes to rule out software issue vs hardware.

Did you ever solved this problem? And when you have a black screen, does your buttons still light up or dont they respond? I this problem also and it seems that my phones is at a complete freeze and does not respond to anything only to a hard reboot. I think the problem is sd card related because when i eject the sd card+sim while its at the blackscreen the phone reboots by its self. Phone seems to work fine also when i remove the sd card so dont know what can fix this problem.

Both of mine have gone completely black with no signs of any power. No blinky lights or sounds.
Just like removing a battery from a device that has a removable battery. Completely dead and the battery has plenty of charge.

Did you ever get it fixed? Do you use a sd card? Try removing the card and see if you still have it. I got the same problem and when i remove the sd card it seems fixed but when i use a sd card it gets the freeze.

I just shipped my phone from Aus to Zimbabwe & its acting up.second time encountering the black screen. I dial the number from another phone & rings but no activity on the screen. :( looks like I might have to ship it back😥😥what an android welcome to an IOS - IPhone person😥

I have the same problem and i have found the solution!!! i been working on this for months and the problem is caused by..... the App Power Saving Mode!!!! When you turn off this feature the problem is solved on my phone and it seems that some apps cant handle this when you have then set at power saving.

My Power Saving mode is always off and this problem still happened. Can you explain how you set the "App Power Saving mode" off, is it different from Power Saving Mode? and how "some apps cant handle" means? do i need to check if any app having "power saving mode" permission? thanks

These are two different things. The previous guy is talking about the setting just below power saving and ultra power saving mode. Its called app power saving

i just bought j5 prime, 3 days ago.
and suddenly, out of the blue, the screen has gone blank.. while there is no light on the screen, neither when i put it on charging, nor any of the buttons are responsive..
It has totaly gone dark.. i was just using it about a few minutes ago, put it away, wanted to chek notifications and everything is gone..
any idea guyz?

My galaxy S7 stopped working randomly. Had put it on charge today morning when the battery was low (~13%). There's a constant red notification light and no key combinations seem to work. Please help!

Keep trying the key combinations, maybe it kicks in IF not then the circuit board needs to be changed

How much would the repair cost? I bought this phone when I was in the US. Now I'm back in India and have no clue how to go about this. :(

Ask a samsung official shop. Should be between $ 100-200. Take the sim and sd card out and try the key combos

Thank you. II have just solved my problem with power button and volume down having failed to do it with other combinations. I am however very worried as this is the third time I have this unresponsive power and home button. Will Samsung replace my phone? I bought it in April 2016 so it is still under guarantee.
