unrEVOked!

Thanks! I'll be rooting once I get home with the phone then!

I don't entirely comprehend the process for the backup though.... seems different from other android devices and I think that has me thrown for a loop just a bit.

(... I was looking on youtube weeks in advance to see what's all happening when rooting to other devices so I had a better idea when it's Evo time.)

Okay, HTC has annouced an update over the air soon for the SD card issue. How will this affect me if I root my phone tomorrow? Should I now hold off? thoughts?

I believe the xda version of Root does not disable OTA update, so you can still root. But who knows what else is transfer with this OTA update, but I doubt it's to patch up the exploits, since it's just released today.

@apexi - i do understand that, but who's to say that they don't slam it in there real quick. I may hold off on doing the root now. They also have a stock rom or something on XDA now. getting more and more confused by this stuff..... Maybe after the weekend is over and peeps play with all of this and they test things out I'll decide if I should go for ROOT. I want it, but not sure that I want to mess the phone up just yet.

Okay here is the Latest from UnrEVOked. They are waiting to see if the OTA hits tomorrow. this is my twit with them. My question and their response.

@unrevoked is the update why ya'll are holding off publishing ya'lls Root? If so that makes sense. Good, luck and thanks for the hard work

unrevoked

@LanceJones77 Yep. We're waiting until the last possible moment. We'll keep an eye on things tomorrow too. #evo #android #root

Thanks, glad I saw this before I left. was getting ready to just head over to the store and site there. So we can chose to except the OTA or not correct?

Well, hopefully the store doesn't do it.

If they didn't do it, you can download a terminal emulator and after you've obtained root, type this in:
Code:
mv /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip.bak
you may have to type su first and superuser permissions app will prompt you to allow access to root.

they did the firmware update before i could tell them not too. and the thing was fast -- it finished before i could cancel it.

darn.

HA! apparently they didn't do the firmware update to my phone at the store. it just asked me for it. i politely declined and now i am gonna try to download the .zip to root my phone. game on!

is everyone still waiting in line or what? someone else get in here and tell me if they have done it already.

Sorry, I decided to wait. I wanted to see if maybe there was some functioning 4G towers in Ft. Lauderdale first... and there weren't. But I can help out if you get stuck somewhere. Really though, I should be studying, so if it isn't urgent, you can send a PM with ?'s and I'll check them out and see if I can help out.

what does that do rufflez?

Okay I am back, I have one heck of a long few days. Still no sleep since yesterday when I woke up at 8am. Anyways, I am typing this from my wonderful new EVO. I am waiting on the unrEVOked guys. It is going to be more simple. Least I hope.

Hey buddy could you please inbox me on how to do that?

Not currently possible, but I believe Sprint threw in tethering until July, correct? I don't have one, but I thought thats the understanding. It may not be wifi, but you should be able to connect via usb to tether. PDAnet does this as well, but limits it to no secure sites (no e-mail from web). Without paying a flat fee of $30.

They told me today that the hotspot feature is free until mid July. Wi-fi that is.
