hi,
im looking to update to 893 as im getting tired of waiting for motorola to take nearly 2 months to update this device. Thats pretty bad.

I did find a download source. Can I update it and it will over write what is on there now without worrying too much about losing data?

I have no interest in rooting the device..just want to apply the update to get rid of this data connectivity bs issue..

thank you

What are you asking? Yeah you can do it, shouldn't lose any data I don't think. Which .893 are you speaking of... there is 5.5.893 which replaced radio files and kernal, there is also 5.6.893 and 5.7.893, which I believe each updated a radio file, 3G on one and 4G on the other, can't remember which. In any case, if you're going to update on your own you might as well make sure you'll be going the full way to 5.7.893 so use the file at the top of this page, instructions are there too Easily Upgrade To 5.7.893, Keep Root And Webtop - RootzWiki

good luck

First what are u currently running? Are u rooted? And. .894 is the newest leak it looks to be the official update it has a new lte radio and kernal. But that may official statues could change.

You sure about that? I heard from multiple sources that the only change made in .894 was that it now blocks the foreverroot script / or doesn't install if you have it in place.

5.8.894 is the very latest OTA leak found. The OP reported that he flashed it and it left him still forever rooted.

I did just see that recently. I'd definitely want to wait until
- Devs get looking at it to see what it even does, from what I read so far we don't even know what benefits it brings
- We also want to know for sure about the root situation. OP for this thread doesn't and that's fine obv, but I would want to know that it can be rooted or that foreverroot still works if you have it applied before this update. One guy with a handful of posts saying it works doesn't give me the comfort of seeing some more established guys' opinions and confirmations :)

There's no rush for me, the 5.7.893 update and system work great. No harm in waiting to here from smarter folks about any new leak that surfaces.

EDIT: Oh addtionally, and this obv only applies to people like me who already updated to 5.7.893, I'm sure we're going to need some brave souls to experiment and figure out what method needs to be taken to update to anything newer than what we are already on. It's going to be different I'm sure for someone who's already updated than for someone who is still on stock 5.5.866.

I agree. Unfortunately, the Bionic appears to be largely abandoned by the dev community.

We can largely thank Moto for that. Razr killed the typical dev play cycle and Moto's locked bootloader isn't helping. Besides, what was up with .894? Just to prove they could kill root whenever they wanted?

Isn't the Razr using the same building that the BIONIC is on?

I was brave and now have a frankstein phone. I flashed the. 886 radio file then tried 894 no go. I then tried sbf to 886 no go it soft bricked had to use the one click system from theory to recover. So needless to say I'm running 893 kernel and 886 radio. With p3 moved onto razr and nexus we are sol

How did you reflash an old radio? I though there is no way to go back on those, that if you upgraded your radio and kernals before they are going to stay upgraded...

Also I'd hardly say we're SOL just because P3 isn't interested in the bionic anymore. In terms of getting the "official" OTA whenever its released, there are still some good devs and plenty of smart people with bionics who are going to figure it all out. Don't stress so much.
