What are the updates for, as in what do they do for the phone?

by updates i mean: Firmware, Profile, and PRL

Each update is going to do something different. Kind of a vague question the way you have it now.

Updates are improvements that we get for our phones. For example...fixes bug issuses, and to improve the phones capabilities.

Trust me - these phones need every one of them.

YES, because i think its kind of dumb of me to update my phone with different things, yet not even know what any of these uypdates are used for.

All these updates have a written layout of what they are for. Data profile, Prl, HTC updates, Firmware, etc.

You can find the version of the updates on your phone, and about the updates onSprint/HTC websites.

It looks like there is a Profile and PRL update available.

What they mean..

HTC/Android update is usually a full update to the entire OS, commonly associated with major updates to Android versions.

Firmware updates are hardware related updates/fixes for device level problems, like camera, etc.

PRL updates bring and adds or changes to the Preferred Roaming List which tells the device which towers to prefer to give the best customer experience on the Sprint network.
