I don't think those retailers would want to risk penalties. Google would find out due to UPC codes.

Instead of being pissed off and anxious, I'm going to just think positive and assume that they postponed the retail dates so those of us who pre ordered it from the play store itself get it in our hands first. I'll give it two more days. If it's not shipped out by then, then I'll be pissed.

I ordered mine Jul 3rd on a WalMart pre-paid Visa card and the "Pending" transaction has disappeared today. Don't know what this means.

Our local Costco pulled all their Galaxy Tab 2 7.0s out of the store very suddenly - I was hoping they may be replacing it with the Nexus - anyone heard anything on this?

If I could cancel with Google and buy from Costco with their 90 day return policy I'd be all over it. Could brick the thing with a root try fail and they would take it back no questions asked.

Well, I could see Staples and other retails like Gamestop getting them earlier....one huge bulk shipment to their distribution centers is easier to coordinate I'd imagine, then Google just asks them to wait a few days to make it a level playing field.

I was thinking that, but do they really not have them even boxed yet? I seriously doubt they would un-box each one and update it... So if they are already to ship, I am betting it will come with just 4.1 (and maybe a sticker saying "upgrade to 4.1.1 immediately" or something like that...

So, just because I'm bored and really only have the Nexus 7 on my mind, I went over to OfficeDepot.com and started a chat with customer service. I just asked when the Nexus 7 would be available.

This is the response I got:
"I can see the release date is not listed from the manufacturer. We have already sent the request for the release date. I do see the order can be placed for the future delivery once the order is placed the item will be delivered to your shipping address from the 3-5 business days once the item is released."

Then he asked if there was anything else he could help with. I said no, I was just curious about availability and when it might be in stores. I then got this:
"I am sorry the availability of the item in stores is not available with us."

I asked if that meant it would only be available online and not in stores. He said yes. So, it looks like Office Depot won't even be carrying them in stores?

I think it's because the retail stores only have a shipment of a certain amount for their first batch of sales. They probably want to make sure their pre-orders online go out before they even bother having them in stores.

yea, im going with this logic as well. google not wanting to make the device available until the OTA for 4.1.1 was made available. they want the best experience possible out of the box for this very important device for google. i'll bet we will know more tomorrow if in fact the release is the 12th.

If I were a more patient person, I would simply just wait until Google sends me the shipping receipt. Unfortunately, that isn't the case... I've been compulsively checking these boards, waiting for the elusive comment to pop up and give us the good news, the best kind of news!

Until then, I'm just happy that we can all share in the excitement together as we throw our money onto Google's doorstep.
