This is what happens when you don't make your own hardware. Apple controls their supply chain. That's why they can say iDevice will be in your hands on X date. If Google did indeed leave it up to ASUS, who I'm sure are fine vendors but not necessarily up to the large task, they have no one to blame but themselves for outsourcing it.

Apple contracts other companies to make their hardware too. They just have figured out how to handle a product launch. Something that nobody associated with android has clearly been able to do. It is a shame. Every android device launch is a clusterf*#$k. Fah-Q Google...

Still haven't seen jack squat. Still not happy. Ordered as soon as the Google Play site went live on the 27th. Not a peep. No CC charge. No e-mail. No nothing. Meanwhile, people are getting theirs from retail outlets. All in all, I think this launch was handled very poorly (and is STILL being handled poorly). Probably the last thing I ever buy directly from Google.

If Google wants to encourage people to buy directly from their store this strategy is completely backwards....Even worse there is a DISINCENTIVE to buying from the Play store. The price, tax, and play credit are the same in other outlets as it is in the Play store. The difference is that if you buy from the Play store you pay shipping - which raises the price or reduces the value of the $25 credit (depending on how you look at it). This is basic economics!! Moreover if you preorder from other places you have a better chance of receiving the device BEFORE those who bought directly from the Play store. This all adds up to incentivizing people to NOT buy from the Play store....which makes no sense if their long-term strategy is to drive consumers to buy directly from them.

BTW I'm in California, about 100 miles away from Google HQ. And I also pre-ordered on 6/27/12. I'll post again once I get a tracking number but I can expect to see the N7 by next Tuesday I believe

I am certainly disappointed by this situation, but not going to take it all out on Google. I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. There could have been a number of issues caused by any of the parties involved.

However, this will certainly make me think twice about pre-ordering anything ever again. And I'll definitely be hesitant to order anything off of Google Play, pre-order or not.

I really wonder if Google understands how big of a deal this is to real Google fans.

I know what probably happened ASUS sent all the 16gb out to the retail stores. Then google was like oh well nothing we can do we will just leave them in the dark. And then Steve Jobs came back (because he only went into hidding so google could use his death as a way to post pone the Galaxy nexus) and now is trying to bring google down from the inside.

Google Play order from June 27th (16gb) still no activity either..

GS guy who sold me his pre-order said what he was told is that the delay was from the Apple suit against search. Take it for what it is worth though. Also stated that they would be making an announcement today.

About an hour ago, I sent a very politely-worded email to Google's customer service asking to please have the shipping portion of my Nexus 7 purchase refunded to me. I fully expect it to be ignored or form-responded with no money back to me, but you never know until you try.
