This is what happens when you don't make your own hardware. Apple controls their supply chain. That's why they can say iDevice will be in your hands on X date. If Google did indeed leave it up to ASUS, who I'm sure are fine vendors but not necessarily up to the large task, they have no one to blame but themselves for outsourcing it.
Apple contracts other companies to make their hardware too. They just have figured out how to handle a product launch. Something that nobody associated with android has clearly been able to do. It is a shame. Every android device launch is a clusterf*#$k. Fah-Q Google...
