One major rule to running a business is that the customer is always right. I plan on running my custom computer business in the near future and that is a very important rule. I took 4 years of business in high school and I know the loop holes.

I skipped a lot of the previous pages but I saw that people are ordering from GameStop and Staples...I went on the websites, first of all GameStop isnt taking any preorders for the Nexus 7 (in my area, im in FL) and second, Staples clearly doesnt have it in stock and says "This item is currently sold out please check back between 7/14 and 7/18 as additional units may become!" and its "delivery only"

I ordered mine on the 5th of July, still havent received any tracking number or email about it being shipped. Ive been on this forum everyday since the 5th and im an extremely impatient person, but, good things come to those who wait right?..........

I ordered mine on the 2nd...and no shipment yet for me either...oh well, I didn't expect it until at least next week. I already have 2 android devices to hold me over till it gets here!

Everything you type is awesome.

Pre-ordered a couple days ago through Play, not a peep yet. So add me to the list of waiters....

I am getting two tablets but it's worth it. Gamestop will ship it before my birthday and Google won't.:)

looking pretty good that there will be nothing about shipping until next week. You think that you'd want to announce the product that everyone knew about and be ready to ship...holy storm of publicity....someday they will get it right. I'm betting next week by wed we will see arrivals

I dunno about all that. Customers can make some unrealistic and ludicrous demands at times. I see a transaction with a company as an even trade; Money for a product. No a$$ kissing required from either side of the transaction. I probably wouldn't be a very good business man without kissing some a$$, but that's just how I see it.

Search their name and on their page near the top right corner it says "add to circles" etc something to that effect. They'll get a notification and may add you back.

I own and run a small business. You have to do some ass kissing, but most customers are reasonable, and some are not. Not every customer is worth having, they have to be profitable customers. But, the profitable ones, you go the extra mile for. It usually is worth the investment. Its been 22 years now, so I think I am doing something right. Its about mutual respect. (I only do business B2B).

"Ok folks..heres the deal....I spoke to a rep at the google store who is familiar with the situation. He said the orders are waiting at the UPS to ship...and that all orders on the play store will ship tommorrow and most of us will get a shipping notification by the afternoon. They have hubs across the USA and hubs on the east coast..and while it may or may not get to you by friday..it should be here by monday..My guess about the retailers gettting a holding order is that Google realized their preorder base would be really pissed off if they let the stores have them first..so that immediately told the stores not to sell until further notice...the rep said he attended a special meeting about this ..this morning..he sounded confident in what he told me. Lets see."

Sounds like a reasonable scenario.

I honestly think they have held off on releasing them in order to fulfill more orders and have more in stores at the same time. It seems like they were getting tons more preorders beginning/mid July as more and more people have learned about it.

Instead of doing it in waves they are just going to send more units to the stores.

EDIT: I think this is definitely plausible as staples has now updated their website to say check back between 7/14 and 7/18 as additional units may become available. Meaning they are getting more stock in and are waiting to release and ship them to everyone at once, as opposed to releasing them today and shipping them today to only go back and ship a few more in a day or two.

Not bringing Google into this at all, just making a very general statement...

This is, unfortunately, only true for companies that *need* the customer's business (and also why as consumers we should always prefer healthy competition over monopolies). Once a business becomes large enough, there actually comes a time in many cases where it is more fiscally responsible to allow a certain numbers to get pissed and go elsewhere vs. making concessions to keep them happy.

Take VZW's "shared data" plans and the elimination of unlimited data from almost every carrier. Each time it happens, there's always a slew of people here making statements like, "I'm through with them! as soon as my contract is up I'm switching to [insert other carrier here]!". Yeah, they know a certain percentage of people will get angry and go away...but their analysis also tells them that they'll make more money by eliminating unlimited plans than by trying to hold onto the estimated percentage of customers who will walk (especially since they're the bandwidth hogs anyway). In other words, they don't care if you're not happy...because they don't need you.

Anyway, sorry to get a bit off topic, but I gotta kill the time somehow, right?
