US release date could be July 12th!

Oh-em-gee! Just got my tracking number from Google. I ordered the 8gb on 7/2.

I ordered on the 9th and instead of the 2-3 week timeframe I got 1-2 weeks when ordering a 16gb model. Hopefully I'll get mine by the end of the week and my email with shipping info and stuff tonight or sometime early next week

Dammit I ordered during the I/O and still nothing. Very frustrating.

Apparently it is random, I ordered 10pm on the 27th and have yet to see a charge or shipping notice. I'm actually a little annoyed about that.

Same deal for me. I ordered at 4 PM the same day. I haven't heard anything.

Mine shipped as well. 8 GB. By the way people should chill. Apparently the stores that sold them weren't supposed to. I like to call CS to encourage them and wish them well. Me and one of them had a convo for a while. He said there was a prob with shipping to Australia. Google wanted a unifies launch to make it fair to those down under as well. So the very fairness we were looking for, Google was showing. Never doubted them for a sec

Where was this written?

I preordered so I could receive one in 2-3 weeks. I'm receiving one in 2-3 weeks.

If I recall correctly, there wasn't even information available about preorders from other vendors or in-store releases at the time I ordered. If that mattered to me, I would have waited to find out.

When other people receive their tablets is irrelevant to me. People may have ordered from Google expecting to be at the front of the line, just as people whipped themselves up into a frenzy expecting a July 12th shipment date, and are now convincing themselves there should be a shipping refund or extra perks. They created their own expectations, which were then disappointed.

Could Google have forestalled this with better communication? Sure. But it's not up to Google to tell people not to concoct expectations out of thin air. 2-3 weeks is what they were told. 2-3 weeks is what they're getting. If that's disappointing, well at least now they know not to order from Google Play anymore.

Will you just quit it? Seriously, quit it. Knock this fanboy nonsense off right now.

You want to know where it's written? It's the historic and popular understanding of just what a pre-order is. Google said that release was 2-3 weeks. Nobody denies that. They are within that time frame. Again, nobody denies that. The point you are missing is that pre-orders are supposed to arrive at launch, not after. The entire purpose behind paying a 2-day shipping charge (on a @#%ing Friday no less, ridiculous) on a pre-order is so you don't have to wait until some arbitrary time after release. We preorderers are essentially a "second wave" of orders, not the first.

The outrage here and elsewhere is further evidence that pre-orders are expected to work like that. If there was no such understanding, then this complaining and argumentation wouldn't happen in the first place. You must be new around the block to purchasing things over the internet you think preorders mean "you get one some after release." Who the hell would ever pre-order then? You think we thought as we all preordered, "man, I can't wait to get this after everyone that preorders at gamestop!"

Let's look and see how other places describe pre-ordering:

Wikipedia:
Pre-order - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee immediate delivery on release, manufacturers can gauge how much demand there will be and hence how large initial production runs should be, and sellers can be assured of minimum sales. Additionally, high pre-order rates can be used to generate publicity to further increase sales.

Here's an incident where a Best Buy employees apologies for a customer not receiving their pre-order for Mario Kart on release (note the customer also has the same implicit understanding of pre-order we all do):

Hi jttucker13,

I appreciate you taking some time to contact us about the pre-order you placed on Mario Kart 7 and how you hadn’t seen it. As an avid gamer, I know that I would be frustrated if I pre-ordered something and didn’t get it until a few days after its release.

I did have a chance to look into the order and according to the tracking information, it was delivered today. The last status states “Out for Delivery”, so I hope that you were able to get ahold of it today. I am very sorry for this experience. I will also be sending you a private message about your order. To check your private messages, you must be logged into the forums and click the envelope icon in the top right corner of your screen.

Thanks so much,

This, of course, is not necessarily true when pre-ordering from a third-party source, as it is understand that the third-party must send it to you after they receive it. However, when pre-ordering from the primary source it is understand that they get as they send it out to everyone else. Not only did stores receive it first, ahead of time, Google didn't even SHIP it until after release. People wouldn't be so mad if it weren't exactly the same day--having it shipped after the day of release pretty much overrides the point of paying a premium in shipping ordering early when the stores are just going to get it (and sell it) first anyway. Might as well have camped outside the store before it opened, or pre-ordered there! Google didn't say a word about any of this, so the ball is entirely within their court.

For those who have received an email saying their device has shipped, what storage capacity did you order and what date? I ordered a 16gb on 6/28 and still haven't gotten an email. People seem to believe that only the ones who ordered the 8gb model are the ones who are getting shipment information emails.

i ordered an 8gb on the 3rd and got an shipping email about an hour ago.

Ordered July 7th, nothing yet, but I'm guessing I won't see much until Monday! Not sure what to think about the Petition to get my $14 back, at least I won't be signing it until I get my device, never know what could happen to my package if I sign it now, could get "lost" in transit!

There is no doubt that Google is at fault with the communication issue, but are you so sure it is solely their fault?

Why don't you at least wait to see whose fault is was before placing blame. For all you know, the stores that have already sold the tablet should not have...

When the first store "mistakingly" started selling the tablet, google should have shipped all the pre orders.

I actually agree! I've stayed off these forums for a few hours today and realized that I can be mad all I want about not getting mine the same day as GS sold theirs, but it won't change anything and I won't get it any faster! It might not be Google's fault, 100% but you're also right that they failed to communicate and that's kinda sad for a company as big as they are! Once you get off these forums, and away from all the hate, you kind of start to see perspective and know that just because you complain Google probably doesn't care! So just sit tight, you'll get it, might not be 100% happy about how you had to go about getting it, but I'm sure the product will speak for itself! Also, just remember for future reference, that ordering through Google for a product might not be the best idea! The less people order directly from them, the less profit they'll make, and maybe they'll see that they shafted us!

I ordered a 16GB on June 27 and no email.. Anyone else? Only 8GB models?

Hey guys, never posted before, just wanted to let everyone know I ordered a 16GB version from the Playstore on July 10th. I've been checking this forum for days looking for updates. I finally just got ready to go to bed and I got my email from the Play store saying my Nexus 7 shipped. Tells me I can track the package on UPS but it may take up to 24 hours for tracking info to appear. My wife and I are expecting our first baby any day now, hoping to get this so I can take it to the hospital...

On a separate note, congrats on the baby! Good to see someone who ordered after the 27th (pretty much all I've seen word from) is getting theirs shipped! I ordered the 7th so hopefully my info is coming! Hope you get yours and good luck with the new baby!

So I visited Gamestop the other day to inquire about the nexus 7 and the salesman gave me the 15th as their official sell date. I guess people are getting theirs earlier but oh well, there was no way I was getting on the first or second wave. He said I could hop onto the third wave of pre-orders but then I wouldn't receive my device at least until LATE august. BLAH! So I took the play store route.

Just now, I called Google in hopes to change my shipping address (going on vacation beginning of August and was afraid I might not be home for the order). The rep was happy to report that all of those people who pre-ordered off the play store would receive their devices much sooner than August. Apparently they aren't sending them out in waves, like GameSpot or Staples, but instead just as soon as they can. He said Google's reason for delaying their shipping a little bit was so that they could send out all their devices at once. Well, whether or not this is true or if they're just trying to calm everyone down, me being one of those who pre-ordered around July 9th, I was pretty happy to hear I don't have to wait a month and a half. :)

Hope this info relieves some stress that others might be having.
