USB 3.0

Ok, but first of all if you are dumb enough to order a microUSB 2.0 cable from Samsung when you can clearly buy one from anywhere for like $2-5 then you deserve to get ripped off. Now that said I went to Amazon.com and order a Samsung 2A charger and a mircoUSB 2.0 cable for like $5 so you can get the a true Samsung OEM product with charging port for 75% less than you suggested and about 83% less than that other company charges for proprietary crap.

You get what you pay for with chargers on Amazon. Most of them are knockoffs that do not perform like the product they are claiming it is.

None of those are sold by Amazon, all by third party. Chances of a knock off are high. For stuff that is easy to knock off, I only buy from major retailers like Amazon, Newegg, etc. not through third parties.

I have gotten an apple lightning cable and charger free from a previous deal, and there were deals for $5 for lightning cable with charger as well. These were not genuine apple, but still decent quality third party from Kensington and Belkin.

Personally I would prefer buying decent third party over potentially knock off charger /cable

Actually Amazon does fulfill some of them so they have them in their stock. Not every product is fake, but if I did get one I would know how to spot it and would send it back and notify Amazon.com it was a fake.

That is awesome news. My laptop has (2) USB 3.0 ports and that is great for file transfers indeed.

Raptor, I was thinking about adding a pci usb 3.0 card to my desktop, but I don't transfer too many files. Do you think it would be worthwhile or shall I just get by with the 2.0?

Fulfillment by Amazon means the seller has store the item at Amazon's warehouse and Amazon is handling shipping and handling.

USB 3.0 is more than worthwhile. The only thing that will be limited is two factors. The speed capabilities of your sata port and hard drive and the speed of the USB 3.0 device. I have a flash drive that has is pushing 200mb write speeds on usb 3.0.

Although FBA is shipped from amazon warehouse, FBA is still third party. Some of the fakes are really hard to distinguish. Also, it could be a Samsung charger but rejected by Samsung for not meeting their specs.

I personally don't want to take a chance with knock offs. There was a death linked to a 3rd party charger. Sure, the chances are slim, but to me, not worth it to buy a charger of potentially questionable origin.

I do understand what it means. I did some digging and found this one listed on Amazon.com's site Amazon.com: Samsung OEM 2.0 Amp Travel Charger with Detachable Micro USB Cable for Samsung Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 II, Galaxy S3 S III, Galaxy S3 Mini & Other Smartphones: Cell Phones & Accessories the useful information is how well the pictures have comments on them noting the difference between fake and original OEM products. Well I took the time and compared the one I got from Amazon.com reseller today not only to the images in the link above but also to my other Samsung 2A charger and cable. Guess what it matches what a true OEM legit Samsung product should look like. So for the price I paid I feel confident in what I got.

As someone who works in the tech industry I can tell you knockoffs are not worth the risk, I simply offered up what is an acceptable product choices and personally Samsung charging their money is still better than what apple does for a single cable. Samsung offers the charger and a cable for a bit more than just a cable alone from fruit and co.

Did you see this on that same page

***UPDATE 3: Today, 8/6/2013, I contacted Samsung directly (800-757-0280) and this is what I learned. ***There are NO AUTHORIZED Samsung venders on Amazon.com.*** This does not mean that a particular vender may not be selling real goods, but if they are selling the real product they did not get it directly from Samsung. Samsung told me, if you want an authorized charger you need to buy from Samsung (currently out of stock today)or check your local retail stores like AT&T or Best Buy.

THIS IS A FAKE, KNOCK OFF!!!
I have an original charger that outputs 5.25V, and this knock off outputs 5.63V, the difference might be small, but it MATTERS. My digital camera that's charging through 5V USB, freezes and stops responding when this fake is connected to it. Clearly the voltage is higher than it's supposed to be.

I would be more concern with this second one.

Nice find. This just goes to show that you have to do actual research and read some info before sticking your foot in your mouth.

Imo, buying from an unknown source (including amazon 3rd party) is not acceptable for chargers. I would rather wait for a sale and buy from large vendors like amazon and Newegg. I got a 2a apple charger and cable for my new ipad direct from Newegg (ie not third party) for free ar.

One more thing. I have been buying monoprice chargers for my equipment. They cost less than the manufacturer's but more than the rip offs. So far zero issues with them, but at least with them, there is a company that will support you and stand behind their product.

John, if you are talking about me, my foot is FIRMLY on the ground and I stand by my position. If you want to go toe to toe on technology then by all means we shall. As for Samsung's comments, they may be right, but they are NOT right. Do you understand what "grey market" is, and that it is not counterfeit, illegal, knock-offs. It is in fact legitimate products purchased from distributors who sell products for say Samsung and they sell of extra stock or get a good deal. Those deals are then sold to others who can and do sell them at a smaller profit.

Bottom line is if you don't know what you are talking about then don't stick your foot in your mouth. I know the industry and what goes on, I just don't promote it.

I will neither disagree with your position or agree with it. I just have a different view, understanding and knowledge of the marketplace on technology given my job. I see, have access to and contact a wide range of partners.

So should we be able to see any difference in charging rate while using it with the included wall adapter, or only when hooked up to a USB 3.0 equipped computer?

Unless the phone has something special that I don't knowabout, wall chargeing should be 2amps like the Note 2. The biggest difference will be from USB port chargeing, 3.0 can send 900mA and still move data and if it allows 3.0 can move 1.5amps but no data can be moved accros the lines. 2.0 can only do 500mA.

That's a cute little reply you made there, but enough with the filibuster. Doesn't change the fact that it's a replica if a number of others are reporting differences between it and an authentic version. If you want to buy a product where a number of reviews state it's not as advertised, that's your problem especially when you want to save a few bucks.

The curious thing is why put USB 3.0 on the GN3 but not on the GN10.1 2014 edition, wouldn't it make sense to standardize across the board.

Probably because the tablet charges through a dedicated port, not the USB port. The large batteries in full size tablets would take a long time to charge through what a USB port can handle.
